How can i fix a corrupted garageband file????

I have here a file that i was working on. I a cd track, and i imported it into the garageband file. After my computer crashed as i was exporting the completed track into itunes, i restarted my computer and when i went to open the garageband file, it said the file was no longer supported. so i opened the file in anycase and was no longer able to use the cd track i had imported. It said that it found 67 audio tracks in 8 bit format. This format os unsupportedd and cannot be played back....can someone help me find some kind of resolution to this issue??

An f4v file I downloaded is set to play for 30 minutes but I can only get through the first 8. I have tried converting it to other formats to no avail. The file size is much larger than would be accounted for by just the 8 minutes that are playing.

It does sound like you have an error at the 8 min mark. Since you say the size is larger than 8 min. would suggest you can see if it has errors.
When you put it on the editor do you see the slider at 1/3 of the way to the right when it is at 8 min.? If it is all the way to the right it would indicate that is they whole length of the file.
If it just quits a 8 min. you might try cutting a little bit of the file at this point and try playing it in the editor. Keep advancing your cut until you get it to play.

The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

How can I fix a corrupted iPhone 4 video file?

I have a video that i recorded back in October with my iPhone 4, but for some reason now it won't play. It says "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file. I have tried a bunch of different corrupted video repair software programs....i got one to convert a little bit of it (you have to pay over $100 to get the full converted video.) While the video is a nice short little video, it isn't worth $100 to have it ...however, is there another way to fix these? i know it helps to have a video that is a reference video shot around the same time, which i do. if anyone has any suggestions, i would greatly appreciate it.

The name of the software i used to fix it (the demo only does around 9 seconds worth) is called Video Repair Tool v.1.6. Has anyone found any software similar to this that is cheaper? i believe from what i have read the "moov" file is either corrupted or missing....

How can i delete a corrupted sparsebundle file

My TimeCapsule sparsebundle file is corrupt and cannot be opened by TimeMachine anymore. However I cannot delete it either, error message: "The process could not be completed as the object "bands" is in use." (my translation from my German original: "Der Vorgang konnte nicht abgeschlossen werden, da das Objekt "bands" in Verwendung ist")
ANY IDEA HOW I CAN DELETE THAT SPARSEBUNDLE WITHOUT FORMATTING EVERYTHING?
Maybe you need the whole story to come up with some good ideas, this is how it came:
- I bought a new 500GB TimeCapsule and tried to do a first backup. It ran the whole night through and wasnt done the next morning. However I had to leave to work and had to cancel it at 80% or so.
- I tried it again on the weekend, but hat to cancel again after dozens of hours of slow backup without success. Finally the sparsebundle file had grown to several hundred GB and I thought I better delete it before trying to backup again.
- Hence: I picked the file and delete, confirmed that it would be deleted straight away (without being moved to the basket before), it started deleting but stopped half way.
- SO NOW: i can neither use the file through timemachine, nor get rid of the file to start timemachine again.

I tried downgrading the firmware back to 7.3 and that didn't work for me either, neither did resetting the Time Capsule.
It ended up that my sparsebundle was in indeed corrupted (for the 2nd time now) which is completely crazy to me!...
I did find out *WHY my sparsebundle kept getting corrupted*:
I learned that when time machine is turned on, if the computer goes to sleep, about 50% of the time, that will "corrupt" the sparsebundle!
What I had to do last night was delete my sparsebundle (again) and then do the dreaded, long "first backup" all over (overnight).
I made a point to go to the "*energy saver*" on my preferences to change the settings on it so that it wouldn't put the MacBook to sleep (both on the battery and power options) so that my sparsebundle won't get corrupted again!
This was really frustrating, and that little piece of information should be included with the Time Capsule for consumers so that they can avoid the frustrations that we've all apparently been having. I'm suprised at Apple, and a little disappointed in all of the time that I spent/lost dealing with the Time Machine and Time Capsule.

after working with a lot of layers, masks and clipping layers my file got corrupted. That happened in the past but I always found a way to fix it buy copying uncorrupted layers to a new file. Most of the time it was just one layer corrupted. But this time is big, it looks like the whole file is corrupted. Find attached how the file looks after corrupting.
It's a big piece of work where I've already spent a good amount of time. Any tip to recover the file?

It's in your Time Machine. Just go back before the corruption happened and retreive it.

How can I fix a corrupt catalog in photoshop elements 8?

I am getting a catalog corrupt error in photoshop elements 8. Is it really corrupt or is my version too old now or something? I have years worth of photos in this catalog. The photos are on my hard drive, but is there any way to repair or reconstruct the catalog? Are the tags and albums saved somewhere?

The details about the tags and albums are all stored within the catalog so you could try to repair it.
If you can't load the organizer, try holding down the shift key while you start the organizer and it should open the Catalog Manager and jump to step 3 below.
Load the organizer
From the File menu, select Catalog - that should open the Catalog Manager.
Select you current catalog and click on the Repair button
When that has finished, click on the Optimize button
When that is done, click on the Cancel button to close the Catalog Manager.

How can I fix a (damaged) library file?

I just upgraded to itunes 5 last week. I opened itunes yesterday and it said my library file had been damaged so it renamed it with (damaged)and gave me a new library file without any of my custom playlists, etc... I lost a playlist thats really special to me, is there any way for me to repair my .xml library. I've tried renaming the (damaged) library to the regular library and itunes finds it and says its damaged... Also, I don't think all of the songs in my music folder are showing up. I own alot of CDs and it's going to be a huge pain to go through my 6400 songs and make sure every album is showing up in my .xml file..
Does anyone know a way to fix/debug my damaged .xml library?

How can I fix my corrupted hard drive?

My hard drive is corrupted. When I boot up my computer, it appears with a question mark inside a folder.
Then, I pressed "option" while rebooting to get to the Disk Utility. I verified the disk, and it said it needed repair and hit the repair button; however, the repair button is greyed out.
I attempted to reinstall my operating system. It was locked and asking for a Macintosh HD password. I unlocked the locked drive, and tried again to reinstall my operating system, which shows up as Mountain Lion, which I did have in the past. Since then, I had upgraded to Yosemite. I get a message saying that I can't reinstall my operating system since I have had a newer version.
Any ideas on what I can do?
Would it work if I erased my operating system, then tried to install it again? I obviously want wiping the computer to be my last resort.

How can I fix a corrupt ssd mbr or gpt

I have a Runcore 64gb mini pci-e SSD with a USB cable. It is not new but used little. I wanted to make it bootable as a usb device but may have hosed it. What I did: (sorry, this is long)
Set up a single guid partition, and sucsessfully made a 63gb partition.
Then I used "erase free space" on the partition.
Here's where I screwed up. I decided to start over and "secure erased" the drive, not the partition I created, but the whole drive. That was a bone head mistake.
Well, after that, I could not change the partition and the root drive shows it's 2tb. disk repair says it's good. Funny thing is, I could still see the partition but not repartition.
I even used Carbon Copy Cloner to put 10.6.7 on the partition. It worked, I could boot to it. But it still won't let me change anything. I kept trying different erase options and continued to say it could't complete the task--until the last time I tried it. Now I can't see the partition. I still see the drive in disk util but can't do anything with it. It shows the same way on a Windows7 machine (2.2 tb).
After a lot of googling, It seems I have a corrupted MBR but the GPT part that Mac uses was ok...or used to be. Sometimes the drive shows "0" capacity, sometime 2.2tb. Last night I had dreams about MBR's GRUBs and GPTs. Today, in terminal, I typed "diskutil list" and got: identifier disk2, size 30.5gb (which is the size of the CCC drive I cloned), and the partition name that I originally made which was 63gb.
All I want to do is clean it off and start over. I don't care about the data. Any Advice? I would like to try something before tossing it. I'm totally willing to try anything since there is no critical data on it.

Hey guys, I recently decided to do a full reinstall of my Macbook Pro, in order to backup my iPhoto library - I burned it onto a CD.
The problem is now I'm trying to copy the file back onto my newly reformatted Macbook and it's giving me an error.
Is there a way I can access the innards of my iPhoto library and rescue what I can?

You can create a new library with the original images and keep the same events that you had.
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
1. Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
2. Open the library package like this.
Click to view full size
3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
4. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.

This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.

How do I fix a corrupt domain?

Came across this last night and, whilst not the end of the world, it's inconvenient.
I just bought a 13" MBP running SL, and am wanting to use it to update my iWeb blog instead of the iMac G5 (leopard). I copied the "domain" file from the iMac to a USB and transferred it to the corresponding folder on the MBP. Opened iWeb - hey presto, the files were all there and looking exactly as I expected.
I created a new entry, attempted to publish, and got the dreaded "Publish error: An unknown error occurred" pop-up.
Searched the interwebz for a solution, and found one to determine if the problem was with the transferred domain file - moved the domain file on the MBP to a new folder, deleted the User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iweb.plist file, restarted, opened iWeb, created a new site and published to a local folder etc etc). A-OK, therefore problem seems to be with the transferred domain file being corrupt
My question is - How can I fix this corrupted domain file so I can use the MBP for iWeb'ing?

Did you try to open teh fle by double-clicking its icon? If the file was made with an older version of Office, you may get that message. Try opeing PP and, from its "File" menu, see if you can open the ppt. I've foundthat often gets around that message and then yo ucan save the file from the newer version.

PowerPoint is not an Apple product and it seems a lot of people around here avoid Office.
