How can I fix PSE3s styles file?
When I launch PSE3 a window shows up that says "this styles file is bad or corrupt", so it can't open up at all and the PSE3 launcher will just stay on my screen. I haven't downloaded any custom styles, I deleted Grant's tools just in case it caused the problem (it didn't work) and I tried resetting my preferences but it didn't work. Any tips on how to fix this?

Did you format the drive for Mac use before you tried to use it as a backup drive?
Are you using Time Machine on the drive? You can't view the contents of its backup database and the only way to access the info is directly from the Time Machine app. -
How can I fix itunes music file's permissions
I decided to import all my cds again at a higher bit rate. When importing a cd into itunes that I currently have in the library, itunes will ask me if I want to replace the existing files. To this i say yes, It prevents my library files from loosing the play count. After a couple of cds I realized that the old files weren't being moved to the trash as they should. So I had 2 songs of each cd in their folders. When trying to move the old files into the trash manually, the system asks me to "type my password to allow the finder to make changes". Looking a bit into it I realized that the permissions are wrong. On each music file I have the following in this order:
everyone Custom
User (Me) Read & Write
everyone Read only
The artist's folders and the album's folders permissions are:
User (Me) Read & Write
everyone Read only
I checked all other files in itunes and the potcasts have the same permissions as my music files but all other (tv shows, movies, apps) have what I think are the correct permissions:
User (Me) Read & Write
staff Read only
everyone Read only
When I go into a specific music file's info I can't delete the "everyone:Custom" permission line. I can only add an administrator on the list. I fixed the permissions from the installation cd using disk utility but it didn't do anything. I'm able to play all files without problems, as well as my apple tv and my iphone. I can't think of anything else to fix the issue. Any help before I call apple would be appreciated. Thanks
~Ralphin finder, right-click on the iTunes folder and +get info+. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and adjust the permission settings. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and +apply to enclosed items+ like so
you may also give everyone read & write access. if this doesn't help, try the same on your iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder).

How can you fix corrupt Project Files in Final Cut Pro X?
Hello All,
I have reason to believe that one of my project files in Final Cut Pro X is corrupt.
How may I begin to resolve this issue? Is there a third party software someone could recommend, like Digital Rebellion (if they have software for FCP X, I'm not sure) that may improve, if not hopefully solve this issue?

If you copied photos to your iPod using the full resolution option, enable disk use, open your iPod in "my computer" in Finder, open the photos folder then open the "full resolution" folder and drag the photos out of that folder to your desktop (or iPhoto). For enabling disk use look here.

If you only copied the photos as thumbnails, you can't do this so you'll need a program such as this one.
Copy photos from iPod to a Mac.
Photos as thumbnails won't be of the original quality when copied back to your computer. -
How can I fix iPhone camera files so they will rotate on computer?
I have noticed that if I take landscape shots with people in them, I cannot upload those files to a computer and rotate them... the message that comes up is "You cannot rotate this image. The file might be in use or open by another program, or the file or folder might be read only." All other non-human-face based photos can rotate all the time... I've tried many different computer programs (adobe, windows photo manager, etc...) and they all bring up this error.
Any assistance?Both vertical (camera button down) and landscape (volume buttons up)... The trippy thing is that it seems to have something to do with facial or people recognition in the phone... does iP have this ability - like a smile sensor? All the landscape non people shots rotate no matter... only, only when people are prominently in the photo does the file error happen.

When i double click itunes it doesn't open it just comes up with an error saying " The itunes library.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the 'itunes' folder in the 'music' folder. How can i fix this problem?

I downloaded mountain lion and then the new office suite (word, ppt, excel) but now when I try to display one of my ppt's it says 'ppt cannot open the file...the file may be corrupt, in use, not a type recognized by ppt etc.." how can I fix it?? HELP
Did you try to open teh fle by double-clicking its icon? If the file was made with an older version of Office, you may get that message. Try opeing PP and, from its "File" menu, see if you can open the ppt. I've foundthat often gets around that message and then yo ucan save the file from the newer version.

Back then when I had the older update with iTunes i never had this problem with trying to put my mp3 files of music into my iTunes library. Now it doesn't want to be put into the library. Once I try to drag the music file to the iTunes library nothing happens, it just keeps showing a cancellation sign with my mouse. So how can I fix this?

The problem is probably that the index is corrupt and you need to completely re-create it rather than rebuilding individual mailboxes. I have no idea what the situation really is now after having tinkered with the contents of ~/Library/Mail/, though, so the following procedure may or may not work.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong -- e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down.
3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index -- Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder. -
I have recently updated my CC programs to the latest version (CC2014) and now all of my files wont open by default into their respective programs, only if I open the program and go to file>open and open the file from there. How can I fix this?
I have tried 'Open with' and the version of the program now installed on my computer isn't even suggested as an option and when I browse for it, the file wont open with it anywayOn Windows (don't know about Mac), the latest version will always take over the file association, and become the default for indd files. It's impossible to change it.
But there is a plugin for ID that makes this possible. Never tried it myself.

Thanks Barney, I tried that but all that comes up in Spotlight are the log files that show the file paths! I don't know how Steam works. Are all the files held by Steam on their server perhaps?

I am a professor and frequently need to open pdfs of academic journal articles from electronic databases. Within the last two or three weeks, when I try to do this using Firefox, only the first page of the pdf displays and the rest are blank. In addition, a bar appears across the top with the message "This pdf file may not display properly." So I have had to switch to Internet Explorer to open the files and do my research. What is going on and how can I fix it so I can open pdf files from the Web in Firefox and have them display properly?
My question is simple - why would you put an application in production that has a lot of bugs? To replace a good and steady Adobe product? My customers will believe that I put a pathetic fallible form online. They are not sophisticated on computers so I just tell them to use IE. Ugh

I have an old mpg video file, taken with a very early model "smart phone", that opens and plays fine in my newly "rebuilt" iPhoto library. I cannot open, edit it or share it with any other software. How can I fix it, to be able to do anything with it?

I've recently purchaced a 4TB Thunderbolt drive to store my "vast" music and photo libraries. iPhoto had an issue reading the moved library, so I bought and used iPhoto Library Manager to "rebuild" it. Apart from much of the original data such as date taken & camera used etc, it appears to be working well. The aforementioned mpg video was taken some 9 years ago, using an early model "iMate" smart phone, and opens and plays fine on iPhoto, but I cannot open it with anything else, (I've tried iMovie, VLC players, Wondershare and Handbrake) nor can I share it. I just want to edit it, and share it with family.
