How can I force a library update without re-importing songs?

I have thousands of MP3s that are already imported into iTunes (v5.0.1.4). Unfortunately my ID tags are far from complete and I use another software package to modify them on a regular basis. The problem is that iTunes does not recognize these changes (since I suppose it has already stored the info about the MP3 in its library during the initial import). I know I can remove the MP3 from the library and re-import it, but I really don't want to do so. Is there any other way of forcing a library update?

OK. I just want it to read the info from my iTunes folder
(Edit>Preferences>Advanced>iTunes Music Folder Location) and use that to update the *itl file. My current itl file is a backup from last week, but the iTunes music folder had several additions during the last few days
However, after renaming and running:
Script: C:\update.js
Line: 11
Char: 2
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
Code: 800A01B6
Source: Microsoft JScript runtime error

how can I force a group of checkboxes when using imported PDF forms,
My checkboxes are single fields rather than a group, the form is design using indesign?

The PDF file format doesn't support grouping check-boxes into a multi-choice field. Because of that, FormsCentral just represents them as check boxes.

  • How can I get a complete update without anny douwnload error.

Ich habe mehrmals versucht das neue Update zu installieren, bekam aber jedes mal die Mitteilung, dass es fehlerhaft ist und ich soll es später noch einmal versuchen.

    Question:
" I've tried several times to install the new update, but each time got the message that it is wrong and I should try again later."
    Solution:
You can try by Downloading the Update from Prodesign Tools:
    - All Adobe CC 2014 Updates: The Direct Download Links for Windows | ProDesignTools
    * This link is for Windows, but they also have the link for Apple
Usually the problem is caused due connection or permission problems.
Have you tried to Update from a Administrator Account?
Are you able to try over a different Connection (Sometimes a Firewall or other Security can interfereer with the process)

  • How can I force a carrier update?

I used the "Restore" option in iTunes to reset my iPhone 3G to an earlier state.  (Don't ask why.)  Unfortunately by doing so I also reversed a carrier update and now my visual voice mail does not work.  Tech support tells me that iTunes will automatically let me know an update is available and then apply it; unfortunately after several weeks and regular connections to my computer the update has still not been applied.  Is anyone aware of a way to force this update?
    What I have tried:
    - rebooting my computer (of course)
    - soft and hard rebooting of the phone
    - clicking the "Reset Sync History" button in the advanced settings of iTunes
    - uninstalling iTunes, attempting to remove every record of Apple from my computer, rebooting and then re-installing.  Unfortunately I missed something because iTunes still had my phone's backup files.
    Specific system details:
    - laptop running Windows Vista 32 Bit
    - iPhone 3G
         Network: TELUS
         Version: 4.2.1 (8C148)
Carrier: TELUS 9.0  (This was at one point TELUS 10.0, and this is the thing I need to fix)
         Model: MB489C
    - frustrated user at keyboard
    - iTunes 10.4.1.0  (most current I can find)

Alright ... thanks for the suggestions, it has taken me a few days to find a suitable time to be without my phone for a while and unfortunately these ideas had no effect.
I did a full reset again, this time I set up as a new phone.  The newly set up phone still has the old carrier (TELUS 9.0), and iTunes has not yet prompted me for an update.  How frequently does it check?  I clicked the "Check for Update" button with no effect; I restarted iTunes and rebooted the phone but no prompt yet.
For the heck of it I put a few apps on the phone (which work faster now, nice!) and basically have left it connected for a while to see if I might get a prompt (1 hour so far, not yet).
Any further ideas? This is quite frustrating!

  • How can I force a paragraph style without losing italic?

This has been annoying me for ages. I work on documents in Word, applying italic to book titles etc, and then import into indesign. I apply a paragraph style and three times out of four the bits of italic are preserved. However, the fourth time the paragraph style doesn't take (probably because of the presence of italic) and I have to force it to do so by using Alt-click. Invariably the italic is then replaced by roman.
It's happening just now with a whole lot of footnotes and endnotes in a book I'm working on and means I have to go back through them all, manually applying italic to my book titles and references. Is there any way to force an endnote/footnote paragraph style without losing the italic text?
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Tom.

I'm not sure that forward planning is so necessary here.
If your only concern is losing italics when importing from Word, create,
in InDesign, an italic character style. Then do a search and replace
throughout the InDesign document (after you've placed the Word file)
searching for italics formatting, and replacing with your italics
    character style.
That will prevent you from losing your italics formatting.
Repeat for bold, bold italics, superscript, subscript, and anything else
    the author uses.
There are some scripts that help in this process (I think one of them is
    called "preptext", by Jongware).
If you want a comprehensive solution that can find every type of
formatting override and creates and applies the appropriate character
style, check out my "Create Character Styles from Overrides" script,
available under the scripting tab on freelancebookdesign.com.

  • What happens on resize (and how can I force it to happen without resizing)?

    Hello everybody!
After running into this for the umpteenth time, I have decided to ask somebody who knows better. So, here goes:
Often, when I change something in the layout of an applet or an application (e.g. removing a JComponent and replacing it with another one), it doesn't get updated. I need to resize the Application window or the AppletViewer window, and then the change is correctly displayed and everything works fine. For Applets, I figured out that I can pack() as a workaround, but this can have some nasty side effects. I haven't been able to find anything for Applets though (an Applet doesn't have a pack() method).
So, does anyone know what exactly happens when I resize that window and why then my changes to the layout are applied? And, more importantly, what I have to do to reproduce this effect without resizing?
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Wojtek

Thanks for the reply! Doesn't work though (invalidate-revalidate was one of my first tries...):
    - Applet has no revalidate().
    - If I put all my stuff into an extra JPanel that I add to the Applet, and revalidate() the JPanel after changing the stuff in it, nothing happens, I still need to resize.
    Any other ideas?

  • How can I force pages to update images to reflect changes made in external editor?

I have added a number of (psd if that's relevant) images to a Pages '09 document (drag & drop from Finder) which have since been updated in an external editor.  Pages is not reflecting these changes dynamically, even on closing and re-opening the document.
Is there a simple way to force this to occur, or am I forced to re-import the images and hence have to re-size and re-position them accordingly?
    -M

    Mike,
This won't happen automatically in Pages. You can save some of the work by setting your current versions of embedded images as Media Placeholders. Then when you drag new copies into those places the sizes and perhaps other features will be retained.
Format > Advanced > Define as Media Placeholder.

  • How can you force a release update in the appstore?

Recently KLM updated their app to version 3.4.2 an apparently Release 9890.
On my iPhone I still have to deal with (buggy) release 9886 even though by now I have deleted & reinstalled the app several times.
Any suggestions on how to force a release upgrade of an app??

    I have the latest update/version (= 3.4.2).
But it turns out that there is also a release number when you look at the app under 'Settings'.

  • How can I force Finder to update its windows?

The two failures to update that concern me are: 1) When I have added/removed something from a window/folder and the window hasn't kept up. Tends to self-correct by closing then re-opening the folder. 2) When an image file has been revised, and the icon preview hasn't kept up. The worst examples being previews that still show 'wrong' rotations, and previews that show images only partly loaded. 3) When the choice of opening app has been changed and the window still shows the earlier app's icon. Tends to self-correct after maintenance tasks, but not always.
This is more a minor annoyance than a serious problem, but I would like Finder to actually do what it is supposed to. There was an app. called Nudge that prompted Panther's Finder to get with the program, but it seems not to work for me in Tiger. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the tip BD, you're prompt to help as always. RefreshWindows does seem to get contents lists brought up to date when Finder's been ignoring them—does navigation windows too which is huge—but has no effect on the icon previews. Any suggestions there?
If the icons are to .jpgs, rotating and unrotating the file in GC's browser window usually works. But that fails on large files and .tifs. It's the opposite of useful to have a preview that doesn't actually resemble its file at all, but how to fix it?

  • How can I cancel an event update without emailing attendees?

    Hi all,
I'm using iCal 4.04 on OS 10.6.8, and when I hit "Edit" on an event with attendees, there is no "Cancel" button. Your only two choices are "update" and if you click off the area, "edit" or "send." This happens even if there are no updates to the event (lets say you type a note, then delete the note, you're still forced to send an update).
This is very odd behavior for OSX and something that I'm surprised to see. People make mistakes, they correct mistakes, and shouldn't have to explain to a 30 person attendee list "oops, sorry there are no edits, I just couldn't cancel this behavior."
If someone knows of a work-around, please let me know.
    Thanks!

I found a solution: Upgrade to Lion
There's now a "revert" button that's long overdue. Thanks Apple!

  • How can I install a Flash update without installing McAfee?

I have tried twice to install and have cancelled both times because it seemed that McAfee was installing. I have Norton installed and am happy with it. I don't object to Adobe's encouraging the use of a competing product, but I do insist on the freedom to decline, and I didn't see a way of doing it.

@coal.brian - The page in my screenshot is the page you are presented with after clicking the download button from the large gray "update" dialog you were presented.  Clicking the button launches the browser, which in turn has two pages that are displayed.  The first being the one that I used in the screenshot, the second being the download page (see below)
As I mentioned in an earlier post, we've added code to the second page (download) so that if you were to go there first, we automatically redirect you back to the first page (opt out) so that you have the opportunity to decline the software option.
If anyone would like to test this out, simply restart your browser and go to this download URL (note that this is the URL from the screenshot in this post):  https://get3.adobe.com/flashplayer/download/?installer=Flash_Player_11_for_Other_Browsers& os=Windows%207&browser_type=Gecko&browser_dist=Firefox&d=McAfee_Security_Scan_Plus_FireFox _Browser&dualoffer=false&type=au&browser_vers=16
If it works as designed, you will instead be silently redirected to the opt out page (see my earlier screenshot in this thread.)

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.
