How can I force iPhoto to store imported movies in a different folder?

I currently have 20GB of AVI video that have been imported over time from my digital camera. I would like to store the videos on a separate drive and still have iPhoto manage them. Is there a way to do this? Am I the only one with this problem?

Another caveat of an alias based library with video files in it is that iPhoto will not let you operate if the drive with those files is not mounted. It will continually ask you to locate the files. It doesn't do that for image files that are aliased, just video/movie files. That can be a big pain.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance. iPhoto doesn't not have to be closed to run it, just idle.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • TS2972 How can i force displaying the latest imported iPhoto events?

I want to see the latest pictures i have imported to my library. it takes about 30 minutes until they are available at the Apple TV (ATV3).
For example I come from an trip where we did some nice photos, which we wand to see via the Apple TV on the big TV. I import the photos to iPhoto (latest Version 9.3). If I select Photos from the Homesharing of my MacBook I always miss the latest import. It takes about 30 minutes after it suddenly appears.
I always try to reenter the homesharing of the fotos, but it seems it doesnt help.

  • How can i change the date of imported movie clips from mini dv?

i imported 1 hour of video from the same tape and created 1 event for all of them.but the date of it is today so imovie is showing it under 2011 when it is 2008? i tried the terminal command touch -t 200806061200 and then draging the event from movies-imovie events to the terminal, i also tried the touch -mt but its not working The folder itself changed dates but not all the clips inside it?

    Hi Karsten
Me just adding in - tried this date and time change and as I get it
    • iMovie'08 - can't be done - Right-Click or Shift-Click or whatever-Click - just don't work
    • iMovie'09 (and most probably iM'11) - Exactly as describet - BUT one must ctrl-Click on one CLIP at a time - Can't be done to a full Event in one stroke (at least I can not figure out how)
(Now I did figure it out - Select Clip one - keep Shift-key down and select last clip in Event - then when all is selected ctrl-Click in one of them and Change Date & Time and all will change)

Mac app store says an app is installed.  It isn't.  How can I force it to reload my app?  I don't want to buy it again.

    Hi ...
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

  • How can I force ITunes store to demand a password before purchases?

A certain teen offspring of mine is ordering ITunes songs at will and regardless of cost or my warnings for her to stop. It's set up so you just go into ITunes store and order, i.e. it bypasses any password question. How can I force the process to demand a password which I have already set? This way she would have to ask permission from me, and I can decide yes or no.

Remove your CC info. Re-add it when you want to purchase then remove it immediately after.
Also, change your iTunes password and log out of the iTunes store.
It's set up so you just go into ITunes store and order, i.e. it bypasses any password question
Select the iTunes store in iTunes.
Log out of the iTunes store.
Find any item to purchase (or download free) then click on Buy.
A window will pop up and ask you to log in to the store.
Uncheck *Remember password for purchasing*. This will require a password a when you make a purchase. If you have removed your CC info, that will also need to be input to make a purchase.

  • How can I force a group of checkboxes using imported PDF forms

how can I force a group of checkboxes when using imported PDF forms,
My checkboxes are single fields rather than a group, the form is design using indesign?

The PDF file format doesn't support grouping check-boxes into a multi-choice field. Because of that, FormsCentral just represents them as check boxes.

  • Force iphoto to store all photos in library

I have iPhoto 9 running on a brand new MacBook Air, and my problem is twofold.
Firstly, when I initially created the library, I imported the photos from a variety of folders copied onto an external HDD (which is the location of the iPhoto library too, for information purposese).  However, the 'copy files to iPhoto library' option was not checked, so it appears on first impression that the files are referenced and not stored.  I realise this was a mistake, not least because all the sorting and deleting I have done within iPhoto is a waste of time, because I have to keep the original folders and cannot delete them, because iPhoto cannot find the files if I do.  So the first question is 1) can I force iPhoto to copy all the photos from the original location to its own library so they are not referenced, but managed files?  I have tried checking the option to 'copy imported photos into iPhoto', shutting down then restarting in the hope it would do this, but when I delete the original reference folder from which they were imported, iPhoto wont find them - so clearly it hasnt worked.  I cannot believe that I will have to start again and there isnt a way to now force iPhoto to just store all the photos it uses, within its own library and allow me to delete the original folders. Can anybody help?
Secondly, I am trying to create a Photobook from within a piece of Third Party software - When I navigate to the 'Masters' folder in iPhoto it wont allow the files to be previewed and dropped into the photobook.  So if I do all my photo management within iPhoto, is there any way to be able to view the photos in a finder style window from within the third party software (which for information is CEWE Photoworld, built for Mac)?  It seems rather ridiculous that if you manage your photos in iPhoto, you cannot then view them in anything else, or do anything with them.  There must surely be some way to open the library and be able to 'use' my organised and edited photos elsewhere...? Otherwise the software I am trying to use is completely and utterly pointless, as most people will presumably use iPhoto (being free and part of the basic Mac software package) as their photo management and editing suite.  To say I am frustrated is an understatement.
Hoping somebody can come to the rescue and sort these problems out.
    Thanks in advance.

You can get all of the photos into the library by setting iPhoto's preferences to copy during import.  Then do the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
The rebuild library will have all of the photos imported into the library.  If you can live with the loss of the projects, i.e. books, etc., keep the rebuild library and delete the old library..
As for accessing the photos for the 3rd party application you do not need to access the Masters folder via the Finder and should not.  You can drag a photos from the open iPhoto window into the other apps window or use one of the methods described in the following User Tip by Terence Devlin :  How to Access Files in iPhoto

  • Itunes and proxy settings. Itunes keeps the proxy setting from IE and I can't adapt it due to company policy. How can I force itunes to use firefox?

itunes can not connect to server and I can't find its proxy settings.
So I think it uses these from IE and those are blocked by company policy.
So, how can I force itunes to use the firefox settings

I fixed this issue (with help from tech support) and it involved several things.
After adding a song to iTunes, right-click on the song in iTunes and select "Update iTunes Match."
OR go to the iTunes menu-->Store-->Update iTunes Match.
Maybe that's the reason, it just hadn't updated to the cloud.
OR maybe it's not a high-enough bitrate file.   This happens to me because most of my tunes are home-recorded.
Sometimes converting to .mp3 or Create AAC version might work. (You do this with a right-click in iTunes, and then you will want to remove the original file from iTunes.)
There is an iTunes Preferences setting, under General Preferences called Import Settings.  Try setting it to AAC Encoder and iTunes Plus.   That (I think) causes imports to be slightly better quality.
Good luck!  The tech support person at Apple is requesting that a knowlege-base article be written about this.

  • After using shift command 4 and send to desktop, how can I had iphoto to the list "open With" to preview menu?

After using shift command 4 to send a photo to the desktop, how can I add iphoto to the list of"open with" menu ?

All that's doing is forcing iPhoto to import the image.  Dragging it to the iPhoto icon will do the same, or create an automator action and save it as a Contextual menu item.

  • How can I force-install iOs5/6 apps on my iPod Touch?

Hi, I have an iPod touch version 4.3.5 (ML1). Model is MC540C.
The App Store sometimes bars me from installing apps because the app has a minimum requirement of iOS 5 or 6. How can I force my iPod to install these apps anyway?

No, it is more than the screen dimension.
You have a 4G iPod, why not update?
    To update:
iOS 4: Updating your device to iOS 5 or later
You need iTunes 10.7 or later on the computer

  • How can I force iTunes Match to upload a "Duplicate" to the iCloud?

I have one album where the first track was uploaded, and the other eleven tracks are all tagged as "Duplicates." These tracks were not uploaded to the iCloud. How can I force iTunes Match to upload these eleven tracks erroneously tagged as Duplicates?

I'm adding my 2¢ because I just "discovered" iTunes Match yesterday and decided to subscribe thinking there was no downside (doh!).
Well, firstly, there's the enormous downside of Apple's structure not being able to keep up with (what they should have known would be) enormous interest... my iTunes has been matching for >20-hours and has yet to reach half-way up my library. BTW: I thought I read the iTunes Match info fairly thoroughly prior to subscribing and did not see anything about it being for songs vrs full library.
And secondly, and even more important to me, is that Apple's method of determining duplicate songs is not robust enough, especially for classical music and audio books (e.g., LoTR). I have >12000 "songs" in my library, and Match has determined a boatload are duplicates. They are not of course and even if Apple's duplicate-determining algorithm just looked at disc & track numbers it would "know" that. Anyway, there's a fairly good chance I will not have one complete album upload/match out of >500 albums. That's nae Scottish, in anybody's book.
Gotta say, using Garage Band to individually alter >2000 "songs" on the off-chance that may assist Apple's duplicate algorithm to be correct is not gonna happen. If, after the matching/uploading is complete, I still have >even 100-not-duplicate-songs listed as duplicates, I'm getting my $29.95 subscription back.
... and C: does anybody know why Apple's Lion spell check doesn't work on Apple's discussion forums???

  • How can I get iPhoto on my Mac to recognize my new iPhone 6?  (iTunes does recognize it!)

I got one of the new iPhone 6s (the smaller version) and it's been working great.  I was able to restore an old backup from my 4S and transferred everything over.  iTunes recognizes the new phone and I've had no problems bringing files within apps on the phone to the computer like before.  HOWEVER, iPhoto doesn't even recognize the phone so I can't import new photos off the phone.  How can I get iPhoto to recognize it?  I tried searching for the phone as a drive via iPhoto and that didn't work either.

So says my computer.  Honestly, I'm not tech-wavy in the least so I just take its word for things.

How can I restore iPhoto titles and captions to iPhoto JPEGs sent to, and opened in, Aperture 3?

Thank you very much, Kirby.  Your suggestion was exactly what I needed.  It proved to be a big help even to my One-to-One Aperture trainer at the Naperville IL Apple store.  My slideshow text, caption, and music attributes also were carried over intact to the new Aperture 3 environment.  - A.Z.
