How Can I Force iTunes to Sync Automatically?

MAC OS X 10.8.2 iTunes 11.0 (64 bit)
Most questions I read here ask how to manually sync...my problem is just the opposite. Whenever I connect my iPod to sync, iTunes opens with the boxes checked for "manually manage music and videos" and "enable disk use." When I remove these checkmarks I get messages about being synced to another library (something like that) and, bottom line, I have to reload all my content. When I close iTunes I first make sure these boxes are NOT checked. But the
next time I go to sync the same thing happens all over again.
I THINK I am aware of all the boxes that should be checked or unchecked, but, obviously there is some setting that I know nothing about that needs to be changed. I know most will say, "Why not just sync manually...it's better that way anyway?" Truth is I may have to take that advice if I can't get it to work.
It's just that nobody else seems to have this problem.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Don't think you can. Your best bet is to copy the backup you want to keep to a different location to prevent it from being overwritten. You can later return it to it's original location and iTunes will recognize it and make it available to restore from. Your backup(s) will be located at one of the following locations:
Mac OS: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
Windows XP: %AppData%\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Windows Vista: %AppData%\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Windows 7: %AppData%\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

• How can I force iTunes to sync with an specific folder?

I have all my music in an external drive, but anytime I start iTunes, it go to the folder created in the HDD. How can I make iTunes to sync with the folder in the external hard drive?

You cannot sync the two devices over WiFi at all. You can turn on automatic downloads on both devices in Settings>iTunes & App Stores>Automatic Downloads>Apps>On, whatever you download on one device will download to other device as well.

• How can I force iTunes Match to upload a "Duplicate" to the iCloud?

I have one album where the first track was uploaded, and the other eleven tracks are all tagged as "Duplicates." These tracks were not uploaded to the iCloud. How can I force iTunes Match to upload these eleven tracks erroneously tagged as Duplicates?

I'm adding my 2¢ because I just "discovered" iTunes Match yesterday and decided to subscribe thinking there was no downside (doh!).
Well, firstly, there's the enormous downside of Apple's structure not being able to keep up with (what they should have known would be) enormous interest... my iTunes has been matching for >20-hours and has yet to reach half-way up my library. BTW: I thought I read the iTunes Match info fairly thoroughly prior to subscribing and did not see anything about it being for songs vrs full library.
And secondly, and even more important to me, is that Apple's method of determining duplicate songs is not robust enough, especially for classical music and audio books (e.g., LoTR). I have >12000 "songs" in my library, and Match has determined a boatload are duplicates. They are not of course and even if Apple's duplicate-determining algorithm just looked at disc & track numbers it would "know" that. Anyway, there's a fairly good chance I will not have one complete album upload/match out of >500 albums. That's nae Scottish, in anybody's book.
Gotta say, using Garage Band to individually alter >2000 "songs" on the off-chance that may assist Apple's duplicate algorithm to be correct is not gonna happen. If, after the matching/uploading is complete, I still have >even 100-not-duplicate-songs listed as duplicates, I'm getting my $29.95 subscription back.
... and C: does anybody know why Apple's Lion spell check doesn't work on Apple's discussion forums???

• Itunes and proxy settings. Itunes keeps the proxy setting from IE and I can't adapt it due to company policy. How can I force itunes to use firefox?

itunes can not connect to server and I can't find its proxy settings.
So I think it uses these from IE and those are blocked by company policy.
So, how can I force itunes to use the firefox settings

I fixed this issue (with help from tech support) and it involved several things.
After adding a song to iTunes, right-click on the song in iTunes and select "Update iTunes Match."
OR go to the iTunes menu-->Store-->Update iTunes Match.
Maybe that's the reason, it just hadn't updated to the cloud.
OR maybe it's not a high-enough bitrate file. This happens to me because most of my tunes are home-recorded.
Sometimes converting to .mp3 or Create AAC version might work. (You do this with a right-click in iTunes, and then you will want to remove the original file from iTunes.)
There is an iTunes Preferences setting, under General Preferences called Import Settings. Try setting it to AAC Encoder and iTunes Plus. That (I think) causes imports to be slightly better quality.
Good luck! The tech support person at Apple is requesting that a knowlege-base article be written about this.

• Can I force iTunes to sync a video even if it says it's not compatible?

I have a video podcast where iTunes refuses to sync some of the videos even though I know they are compatible. When I stream them on my iPod touch from the iTunes store, they play. When I download them directly to my iPod, they play. When I sync my iPod, the videos are removed and iTunes says they aren't compatible with this iPod. Can I force iTunes to sync the videos? Are there other ways to fix this?

Yes, but the issue is the IP address. If you have a static IP from your ISP it is easy.. Or if you use another router with dyndns it is easy.. but Apple make it exclusive to their network so you can have loads of issues without a computer to function as a client for dns.
Look up remote Time Capsule access .. there is plenty of info out there.

• How can I make my iPod sync automatically?

When I first got my iPod I chose for it NOT to sync automatically but I should have. I have no idea how to get back to those settings but want to change it so it syncs on it's own. I've read a few topics here and noticed stuff about Summary tabs but the thing is, I have nothing like that on mine, I have no setting options whatsoever. I tried registering my iPod on here to see if that would do something but the thing is, it asked for payment details but I don't want to pay for anything. I don't use the iTunes store to download my music, I transfer it from another downloading software.
So, my question is - how do I make my iPod sync automatically and how do I find these 'settings' that everybody else appears to have?

• How can I force ITunes store to demand a password before purchases?

A certain teen offspring of mine is ordering ITunes songs at will and regardless of cost or my warnings for her to stop. It's set up so you just go into ITunes store and order, i.e. it bypasses any password question. How can I force the process to demand a password which I have already set? This way she would have to ask permission from me, and I can decide yes or no.

Remove your CC info. Re-add it when you want to purchase then remove it immediately after.
Also, change your iTunes password and log out of the iTunes store.
It's set up so you just go into ITunes store and order, i.e. it bypasses any password question
Select the iTunes store in iTunes.
Log out of the iTunes store.
Find any item to purchase (or download free) then click on Buy.
A window will pop up and ask you to log in to the store.
Uncheck *Remember password for purchasing*. This will require a password a when you make a purchase. If you have removed your CC info, that will also need to be input to make a purchase.

• How can I force iTunes to skip uploading some files to iCloud?

I have a *lot* of college level courses from The Great Courses in iTunes. I have no need of having them in iCloud. How do I force iTunes to NOT upload these files? I only need my music in iCloud and not these lectures. Besides, The Great Courses has an iOS app that already lets me stream these if I choose. So there is no need for them to be uploaded into iCloud.
Linda

Thank you. Actually they are uploading. I had purchased the CD's. Each lecture is divided into 6 files on the CD's. I used "Join Together" and Quicktime and joined all of the tracks together for 1 file per lecture. Those don't exist, as I have them, in iCloud. So, iTunes is in fact uploading all of these files.
The link you provided was for hiding purchases. These were not purchased through Apple.
So, the question remains. Is there a way to prevent iTunes from uploading certain files into iCloud?
Thanks,
Linda

• HT1386 I don't have a computer. How can I set iTunes to sync with wi-fi?

I have an iPhone & iPad and don't have a computer how can I sync iTunes ?

You cannot sync the two devices over WiFi at all. You can turn on automatic downloads on both devices in Settings>iTunes & App Stores>Automatic Downloads>Apps>On, whatever you download on one device will download to other device as well.

• How do you stop ITunes from syncing automatically every time I attach a device?

I have the option box checked that is supposed to stop devices from syncing automatically, yet ITunes STILL insists on syncing the devices automatically and overwriting gigabytes of data. I've had to spend hours finding everything again after ITunes has synced when I don't want it to. Needless to say, this is INCREDIBLY frustrating.

I no longer need an answer to this question. I didn't directly solve the problem but it solved when I was fixing something else.

• How can I force iTunes to re-copy a song to an iPod?

A couple of years ago, I spent weeks ripping my multi-hundred CD collection. I didn't use iTunes for this project, and I found out later that many of the CDs didn't rip correctly (skips, crackles, low volume, etc.). Most were fine, so I didn't take the time to re-rip everything. I just re-ripped when I came across a bad song.
Since signing-up for iTunes Match, I've been using it to download matched songs when I come across bad rips while listening to my iPod. However, re-syncing my iPods (touch/iPhone/iPad) doesn't copy the new "Matched AAC" file. I'm left with the old, "bad rip" version on the iPod, even though iTunes now has the downloaded, good version.
My iPods are setup to sync a set number of playlists (some auto playlists, plus the Genius playlists). I haven't been able to find any changes I can make in the info of a song to force it to re-copy. Manually dragging it to the iPod doesn't work either. The only "fix" I've found is to stop syncing music (erasing all music on the device), then start syncing music again, which re-copies everything and takes a long time.
Any idea how I can force a song to re-copy, replacing the old/bad version with the Matched AAC version?
Thanks for the help
Charles

Do you keep your songs in the iTunes Music folder (the location of which is set in iTunes>Preferences>Advanced) or do you use another folder of your own making? iTunes will delete songs from the library and move them to Trash only if they are in the iTunes Music folder. (iTunes will ask if you want to trash the file if this is the case, it doesn't trash it automatically). If your songs are kept outside of this folder then deleting only removes the reference to the song from the library and you have to go to the folder they are located in to trash the file itself.

• How can I get itunes to sync my iPhone contacts with outlook?

Contacts doesn't appear among videos, music and tv shows under device and when I request sync, itunes doesn't sync my contacts or internet preferences from my notebook.

Syncing contacts direct with a supported address book app on your computer via the iTunes sync process is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 is supported.

How can I STOP iTunes from automatically trying to add podcasts to my iPod when I plug it in and sync it, so I can manage the files? I have already unchecked "Sync Podcasts" and "Automatically include,"yet EVERY time I sync it,it still transfers podcasts as the last step, and at other times randomly, when trying to just add some MP3's to a playlist, for example. I can't seem to find any other option to uncheck, and can't find an answer from my so-far internet searching.

erict, you blew me away with that suggestion! It was something so simple I couldnt believe I hadnt thought of it! But in the end it didn't work, which I was really surprised about. On Windows anytime anything was moved itunes was hoplessly lost, but on this mac it still kept up with everything. I tried renaming folders, moving folders, and even renaming moved folders but it still kept trying to import.
I even went as far as deleting EVERYTHING i had moved to the Mac, which didnt really work. It still kept trying to import what wasnt there which made it continue to freeze up. However, after doing this it, the freezing was not nearly as bad. It gave me enough of a break to cancel it through the itunes dialog box at the top of the app. So in the end, thats all I really needed to do, only before I had deleted everything the freezing would not allow me to do it.
So now Im reimporting everything again, only slowly, and only a few Artists at a time.
