How can I format Linux OS from my primary hard disk

I had windows xp professional , but on top of that I installed Oracle Enterprise Linux 4.6,
I want to revert the process ,
Please help.

You cannot go back to Windows option as it was overwritten with Linux parms.
I would suggest to re-install Windows Xp ,create a new partition and install Linux on it.
Its working for me with no issues.

  • How can I import the photos from dvd or hard disk?

    Hi!
How can I import/export my photos from dvd or hard disk??!

To what?    Are you having trouble with a DVD made by a particular device, or a hard disk that was on a particular computer, or is still in that computer, and communicating to your computer?  We don't have enough details to answer the question.    Are you trying to get photos into an iPhoto certain version, Photoshop certain version, just the Finder of a  certain version, or specific operating system on your Mac?    We need more details.  Is the DVD a standard DVD, such as is indicated on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2446 or something non-standard?

  • After hard  disk crash: How can I get my fotos from iPod to hard disk?

As I said my hard disk crashed. (iPod 3.gen. )
So now I have my photos only on the iPod but I can't get them on my hard disk.
(If I would sync my iPod they would be deleted...)
Do you have/know a good programme (free), that copies them back on the hard disk??
    Thanks a lot

f you have full resolution copies of the photos on the iPod have a look here, it's completely free: Apple Knowledge Base article - Use Disk Mode to copy photos from iPod
If not, there are a few programs out there for recovering photos from an iPod, have a look at the ones below. I don't know of any "free" ones but if your photos are of value to you then paying for a program makes perfect sense. If you search the internet you can find more. Just be aware that what you'll be recovering will be photos optimised for the iPod so they won't be the same quality as the original full resolution versions:
    iPodPhotoCopy Windows only
    CopyPodPhoto Windows only
Tansee iPod Transfer Photo Windows only
iPod Photo Liberator Mac & Windows
TouchCopy Mac and Windows Versions (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

My old computer has broken and I had not backed up my Itunes. I now have the hard drive from my old computer (windows 7) but cannot transfer the music. How can I transfer the music from my old hard drive to the new laptop (windows 8)?

Copy the entire iTunes folder from \Users\<User>\Music on the old drive into your music folder on the new computer.
Or see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • HT4528 how can you recover deleted photos from the iPhone hard drive?

Is there anyway possible i can recover my deleted photos from my iphone hard drive for free?

You can't for two reasons: First, the iPhone doesn't have a hard drive. Second, there is no Trash folder, so once something is deleted it is gone forever. If you were foresighted enough to sync your phone regularly the photos should still be in the app you used for managing photos from digital cameras on your computer, and they are also in the iPhone backup on your computer. If you enabled Photo Stream they are also in iCloud. But if you didn't take advantage of any of these backup options you are out of luck.

    1) For some reason this happens once in a while with FAT32 enabled external harddrives. I have no idea why this happens but it most easily solved by reformatting the drive. First make sure you've copied everything from the external drive to your internal harddrive. You've done this earlier so I assume you know how to do this.
Now the reformatting part. Open Finder and go to Applications. Look for the folder called "Utilities". Click on it. In it you find a program called "Disk Utility". Click on it. Now look for the external drive. You probably see two entries for the disk. Click on the one that contains the name of the drive NOT the one that describes the disk (Like for example 320.07 GB Samsung S2 Portable Media).
Now you see four tabs in the righthand part of the window. They're called "First Aid", "Erase", "RAID" and "Restore". Click on "Erase". This opens the tab with (amongst others) a dropdownbox (Format) and a textbox (Name) . In the dropdownbox select "Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Take note! This selection disables usage of the drive with Windows PC's. If your goal is to share the drive with Windows PC's select the MS-DOS FAT option.
Enter a label for the drive in the textbox Name. Now click on the button "Erase". This will format the drive.
Now when it's done you can copy back all the items you've copied to your internal harddrive earlier.
    2) Opening two windows like Explorer on Windows is opening two Finder windows on the Mac. Simply click on the background. In the menubar you items like 'Finder", "File", "Edit", "View", et cetera. Click on "File" and "New Finder Window". Do this two times. Alternatively you can click on the background and press CMD-N two times.
    3) You can right click on the trackpad. This however depends on if you've enabled the feature in System Preferences. In the topmenubar click on the Apple icon and select "System Preferences". Now look for Trackpad in Hardware. Click on it. You see three tabs with the names "Point & Click", "Scroll & Zoom" and "More Gestures". Select "Point & Click" and look for "Secondary Click'. Make sure it is checked and make sure it has written "Click or tap with two fingers" written beneath "Secondary Click". When you're done exit System Preferences. Now select the background and tap with two fingers on the trackpad. This should open the contextuel menu with options like "New Folder", "Get Info" et cetera.

  • How can I format toshiba canvio USB 3.0 Hard drive (Windows 7 w/U3 software preinstalled) for mac?

Purchased Toshiba part number HDTC605XL3A1 - 500Gb USB 2.0 & 3.0 external 2.5-inch self powered hard drive through Amazon. On two different MacBooks (both Core i5--1 Air and 1 Pro) we can't get the drive to show up using Disk Utility nor can we scan for it/see it with any other available tools in Lion or Snow Leopard.
Any ideas? Toshiba has stopped producing Mac specific USB drives apparently and their technical support can't get it to work. The suggest formatting it on a Windows computer with FAT32 but don't have one easily available.

Hi, have you checked on System Information to make sure the Mac is actually recognizing the hardware? (type system information on spotlight and click USB on the left)
I had a simmilar problem with a Seagate Freeagent Go drive. It showed up on the hardware list for a few secconds and then dissapeared as if I had unplugged it, meanwhile the HDD was still on and spinning. Called Seagate and they told me to do a PRAM & SMC reset, this solved the problem, although it still happens every now and then.
Mac OS X can see NTFS formatted drives too, the only limitation is that it can not write on them (without third party add ons) so I doubt it's a formatting problem.
I'm not sure if you are having the same problem, but you should give it a shot.
    SMC Reset
For Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    PRAM Reset
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Your computer's PRAM and the NVRAM are reset to the default values. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models.
Let me know how it goes.

  • How can I backup my files from a dead hard drive?

When I startup my mac I get a blinking question mark on a folder.
I assume I have to replace my hard drive but there are files that I absolutely cannot lose on there!
I know my files are there so how can I get to them?
I've tried holding C on bootup and nothing happened, and when I hold Option and click my boot drive, I still get the blinking question mark.
I need my files! Please help! Thank you.
    -Ryan

The blinking folder doesn't necessarily mean the drive is dead but it does mean the computer cannot find a valid system to boot from. There are lots of reasons this can happen and in some cases the data can be retrieved and sometimes it cannot. You'll need a valid boot disk - holding the option key merely tells the computer you want to choose the startup drive. If you only have one startup drive and it isn't functioning, you aren't going to get anywhere.
Since you appear to have no backup (or at least a recent one) you have a couple choices. You can try starting up the computer with the restore DVD that came with the computer (hold the C key as your restart), attempt to repair the drive, and reinstall the operating system. Under no circumstances should you reformat or repartition the drive. That will destroy the data - at least in terms of recovering it inexpensively. (If after booting with the restore disc you see no hard drive, that would indicate the drive is dead.)
Unfortunately, the restore DVD doesn't let you access the Finder and data which is why I always have a clone external drive I can use to boot up the computer and access the internal drive. If you have no internal drive you can get one at virtually any big box store today - it doesn't have to have a Made for Mac symbol on it. Connect it to the computer, restart with your restore disc, and then install the operating system on the external drive. Then restart with the external drive by holding the option key as you restart. If the internal drive mounts to the desktop you can copy your files. If it doesn't mount you can attempt repairing the drive with Disk Utility.
Assuming the drive is functional, a third possibility is a piece of software called Data Recovery. This is one of the tools in my arsenal and I've had pretty good luck with it retrieving files from drives that were badly corrupted. The program must be run either from a bootable DVD or another bootable drive and it requires a drive to put the data on. I keep a copy on my external hard drive (and you can download the program.)
    Good luck

  • How can I move my system from my current hard drive to a new SSD drive?

I just installed a 240GB SSD in place of my optical drive and would like to ,make this drive my startup drive. I have everything backed up on Time Machine. How can I get the OSX 10.8.2 system onto the SSD and make the SSD the startup drive please?

It depends on how you have things organized.
You certainly need to copy all of the folders that have music in them (perhaps this is in your "My Music" folder, or an "iTunes music" folder.
You also need to copy your iTunes library files (.xml, .itl) - these will be in a folder called "iTunes." If your music is in that iTunes folder as well (but it will be in a sub-folder called "iTunes library" - then just copy the whole iTunes folder across.

  • How can I transfer specific date from my old hard drive to a new one?

I'm planning on buying the OWC Data Doubler and installing an additional drive [240GB OWC SSD].  I want to transfer everything except my iTunes library to the SSD so that it will run faster.  I can't transfer the iTunes library because it's too big.  How can I transfer just the data I want [OS, Documents, etc.] but leave the iTunes library on the drive.  I do have an external drive/time machine backup available.

  • Computer died...now how can I retrieve keyword tags from my old hard drive?

I got a new computer and installed Elements 9.0 on it.  I am retrieving the pics from my old hard drive just fine but I seem to have lost the majority of my old keyword tags.  Any help?  Thanks.

If you didn't write the keyword tags to all the photos when your old computer was working, you can't get the tags back by simply retrieving the photos.
You'll need to retrieve the entire catalog directory.  When you open that old catalog on your new computer, all your photos will be listed as "missing".  Use the Reconnect All Missing Files to connect them by browsing to their current location.

  • How can I see what's using all my hard disk space

The other day I noticed my HD has 3GB left of memory, but my Home folder is only using 67GB. How can I figure out what is hogging all my space and get rid of it? I do use Bittorrent but I highly doubt that would account for the loss of free space.
Message was edited by: Jeremy Sample

Start with the freeware Grandperspective. The interface is a bit unusual, but it should help you figure out what's taking up all your space.
And of course make sure you're emptying the Trash.

  • How can I securely erase my Apple TV's Hard Disk?

The 40 GB drive is too small as everyone is experiencing and I need to upgrade my Apple TV’s hard disk to a 250 GB drive that are now available. I thought of doing it myself but it is not quick and I do not have the time people are reporting. Therefore, I decided to send it to a company to do the upgrade. I would like to securely erase the hard disk before I sent it out, because the company told me that they do not return my old hard disk. However, I do not know how to erase my hard disk, especially how to make a secure erase. Will Apple’s Disk Utility see the Apple TV’s hard disk to make a secure erase? I tried but it is not coming up in its pane. I would appreciate your help, please. Thank you, Tumay

There is no way to securely erase the drive without removing it from AppleTV and using a utility.
Best thing you could do would be to do a system restore which should erase the files, and then sync with a load of rubbish a couple of times (make some dummy video/music files) if you want to overwrite stuff on the drive. Seems unlikely that the company in question would be interested enough in your files to use professional data recovery to try and recover what you had on there.
