  • How can I upgrade my Mac Pro

    Hello,
I have a Mac Pro. Here are the specs :
    Mac OS X 10.5.8
    MacPro1,1
    NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
When OS 10.6 came out, I found out that I couldn't upgrade to it because of my graphic card. In the technical specifications it is mentioned that :
    OpenCL
requires one of the following graphics cards or graphics processors:
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, GeForce 9600M GT, GeForce 8600M GT, GeForce GT 120, GeForce GT 130, GeForce GTX 285, GeForce 8800 GT, GeForce 8800 GS, Quadro FX 4800, Quadro FX5600
    ATI Radeon 4850, Radeon 4870
Now, OS 10.5.8 is becoming more and more outdated. I would like to know how can I upgrade my Mac Pro ? What kind of graphic card can I put in ?
Thank you for any help and/or information !

It's been a while since I've used it but I installed Snow Leopard on my old Mac Pro 1,1 with the 7300GT and it worked. OpenCL may not have but the rest of it did. I don't think what you've quoted says you can't upgrade but only that an upgrade won't deliver all of the features in Snow Leopard. Indeed, I was able to move the HD in the 1,1 Mac Pro into the 5,1 Mac Pro, boot from it (10.6.4 is the minimum the 2010 Mac Pro will boot with), clone it and then updated it.

  • How can I format a mac G5 without the disc's included at purchase? Is it possible?

I was recently able to purchase an Old G5 from work and I would like to format it. The grey install discs that are included at purchase from mac have long since been trashed (why anyone would do that blows my mind). I have an install disc of OSX Leopard could I use that to format the computer? On a side note I can buy up 2 more g5's however they also don't have the discs or even a harddrive. So assuming I buy a mac formatted harddrive's could those also be Salvaged? They're selling them for $50 so I don't want to pass up on them if I can get them working.

    1. If it's a retail disk and not one which originally shipped with a Mac, yes. Note that it doesn't contain iLife or the Apple Hardware Test.
    2. If there's nothing else wrong with the other two, yes. The drive doesn't need to come formatted for Mac OS X; it can be reformatted.

  • How can I connect older Mac Pro (2006) to my network wirelessly?

I just got a new (2012) MacPro that I can connect wirelessly to my network. I'm moving the old Mac Pro (2006) running OS 10.7.5 that had been connect via ethernet cable to the other end of the house. What do I need to get to connect it wirelessly?
    Thanks,
    Carmen

    Carmen,
Since the Wireless card was optional back then, you may not have gotten it in your original config?
You can verify if the hardware is installed several places, as Bob mentioned, do you have the option to enable wireless under your System Prefs \ Network (I would imagine not, since your asking). However, while very unlikely, it may be installed but your not able to see/select it for some reason?
So, just to make sure, you can also verify via looking under "System Information" (you'll want some info from there anyway).
"Apple Menu : About This Mac : More Info : System Report : Network : (look for Wi-Fi etc.)" if it exist you'll see the card and info about it.
If you don't have the option nor see a card was installed you can go about this a few ways.
    1. The absolute easiest route (to NOT have to deal with 3rd party drivers or possible 3rd party issues when you upgrade your OS etc) is check out places like Macsales and see if they have any of the original Air Port extreme cards available and install yourself. - http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apple/BCM94322MC/
    2. You could talk with Macsales and ask which external USB wireless card works best with your rig (least fussy) and go that route. While several brands work just fine, you just never know when something changes in an update and then your faced with the old pointing fingers thing. Rare, but still....
Also, while your in the System Information area you'll want to note your model, if it's 2006, I think that's Mac Pro 1,1 ?
    Hope that helps.

  • How Do I format my Mac Pro Late 2013

the mac pro late 2013 is well known the be equipped with a PCIe SSD .... Will the Erase function in disk utility with one time pass Zeros work or will it damage the drive? Thanks

Zero is the same when using a SSD as doing writes, so basically you just filled the drive which now needs to be restored and used cells "trimmed.:"
Damage, no, but SSDs have spare cells, can manage quite well, and you don't need to try to force it to reallocate cells.
    Clone the drive.
If you play around with Windows and Boot Camp or have created partitions you want to remove and want to start over, you still would not want to zero the drive.

  • How can i back to mac(pro) after install windows7 32bit

Press option during startup to choose the OS to boot.
Once in OSX, use the startup manager to set the default startup OS.
(This assumes you are using bootcamp)

  • How can i format my mac with lion?

I don't have lion install cd, just snow leopard.
i want to format my mac.

Boot from Recovery Partition by holding down Command + R during boot.
The start Disk Utility from there.
IMHO I think that the vast majority of the time most reformats are a simple waste of time.

  • How can i format my mac book pro v10.6.8

hi i m using macbook pro v10.6.8  its too slow i just wanna format it and dont know how to format it so please help me to format it as soon as posibble please

    Hi m,
    1. Boot from install disc (press power button, immediately insert install disc and hold down c key).
    2. Select your language.
    3. Open Disk Utility from Utilities menu.
    4. Select the HD in the left pane (the manufacturer’s name and the HD model number).
    5. Click on the Erase tab.
    6. Choose the Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
NOTE: if you want to zero the HD (which I always think is a good idea, but does take time), click on Security Options, click the button for Zero Out Data, click OK. The larger the HD, the longer this will take, in some cases several hours.
    7. Click on Erase and wait for the entire process to finish.
    8. Click the Partition tab.
    9. Click on Volume Scheme and choose the number of partitions (normally just one unless you have other plans).
    10. Click on the Options button (located underneath the Volume Scheme pane) and select GUID.
    11. Click Apply.
    12. Quit Disk Utility and continue with the installation process to install OS X; when finished, restart, repair permissions, run updates (in Apple Menu > Software Update), and repair permissions again.

  • How can i format my MacBook Pro hard disk and recover my data from time capsule?

    Hello,
My MacBook Pro is running slow, more and more. Everything started with the "upgrade" to Lion.
Can I re-format my hard disk and recover from Time Capsule only the data and applications I really need (including Snow Leopard as OS, maybe)?
    Thanks

The problem is that it is a Western Digital 3.5 inch internal hard drive housed inside a hard drive caddy. So the only way to connect it to my computer is through a dock.

  • How can i format my matchbook pro?

i want to formate my macbook and i want to know how ?

are you sure you want to do it?
if you want to do so, assuming your macbook came with lion as the default OS, restart your macbook holding the command + r key and when you see the apple logo release the keys and wait until you get to the disk utility menu and you can format/erase your macbook from there.
good luck...make sure your files are backed up......

If you use Windows program to partition the Hard Drive, the Apple partition gets destroyed.
Windows does not understand it is a guest on your Mac, and throws garabge wherever it pleases.

  • How can I connect my Mac Book Pro (year 2008) to the TV set through  HDMI? I've seen a DVI to HDMI iwire but I'm no sure that it is correct. Could anyone help me? Thank you very much.

How can I connect my Mac Book Pro (year 2008) to the TV set through  HDMI? I've seen a DVI to HDMI iwire but I'm no sure that it is correct. Could anyone help me? Thank you very much.

I do not know the iWire adapter, but I use an inexpensive ($3) DVI to HDMI adapter from Monoprice, along with a regular HDMI cable:
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041902 &p_id=2029&seq=1&format=2
Be aware that this will only transfer video. You Macbook Pro cannot combine audio through DVI to HDMI. You will need to listen to the audio through the Mac speakers, or attach speakers or a sound system to the Mac earphone jack, or determine if your TV has the ability to accept external sound from the Mac while showing video through HDMI (few can).

  • How can I share my mac book pro with my mac pro.

    Hi,
Anyone know how can I share my mac book pro with my mac pro. At the moment I am in NewZealand and my Mac Pro is in UK. I used to share my both computer in UK in same network but I don't know how can I share with different network. Please help me.

You can't, currently only the iPhone has the personal hotspot function, it hasn't been enabled on the iPad - whether it will be possible in the future I don't know
