How can I free up space in icloud

I received an email stating that my iCloud storage is full. I have a iPad and iPhone. I've synced my phone with my macbook, deleted photos, deleted apps, etc. My phone shows 3.1 GB of storage used. How can I see what's backed up to iCloud and free up space?

You can get an idea of what is using your iCloud storage by going to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage.  Tapping your backup here will give you additional information about what is using space in your iCloud backup.
This article provides suggestions for reducing your storage: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4847.

  • How can I free up space on my iphone without connecting to itunes?

How can I free up space on my iphone (by posibbly deleting some music) without connecting to my mac itunes? I'm travelling abroad for some time so can't access my itunes account on my mac at home and the iphone is full. I thought I'd left enought room for plenty of new apps, but alas no. So I need more room for more apps. We have my partners PC laptop with her itunes loaded if thats any use. I've deleted and backed up all my iphone photos already. Thanks.

Claiming that it can be done, but not telling him how is not all that helpful. We were dying for you to share the steps that he must take.

The process is just like deleting an unwanted email in your inbox. Simply find the track(s) you don’t want on your iOS 5 device anymore, slide your finger over the track listing to the left or the right to reveal a hidden “delete” button, and then select “delete” and the track is gone. Unfortunately there’s no mass delete option, so those Backstreet Boys songs are gonna have to be deleted one at a time.

  • I am at capacity How can I free up space but not delete music

My Ipad is at 55.4 gb used 24 gb in music alone. 2.7 gb available so can't do anything  Ipad shuts itself down and won't let me open mail, use facebook, safari. How can I free up space but not delete songs in library

Unless you are attempting to download a sizable file, 2.7 GB should be more than enough to continue fucntioning. Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray BEFORE doing the reset.

How can i free up space on my start up disk to install the OS X Mavericks software?

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space. Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning your files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

Begin by dragging your files to  another drive. Then delete those files on your internal drive.
As soon as you have enough space freed up download and run OmniDisksweeper to find what's hogging your disk space.

  • How can I free up space and send to icloud?

How to free up space on ipad & send to icloud?

You can delete downloaded apps (which will also delete their content) from your iPad by pressing and holding one of them on your iPad's homescreen until they start to shake, and then tapping the 'x' on them to delete them - press the home button when you've finished deleting apps.
And you can delete films and/or TV programmes from the Videos app via the Edit button at the top right of the film/TV programme selection screen, and music in the Music app by swiping /dragging across them from right-to-left.
Whether your apps will then show in the Purchased tab in the App Store app for redownloading will depend upon whether they are still in the store - and for your films, TV programmes, and music whether they will show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app will depend upon them still being in the store and if you are in a country where they can be redownloaded (and if you've moved countries since buying them).
You can copy iTunes purchases over to your computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases so that you have your own copy of them which you can use to sync back (and to take a backup copy of) so that you don't have to rely on being able to redownload them.
If you are asking because you want to update to iOS 8.3 then updating via your computer's iTunes should require less free space on your iPad than updating directly on it - but still do the Transfer Purchases and take a backup and preferably take your own copy of any important documents and/or photos

  • HT4847 how can I free up space in my icloud???

I am out of space in my icloud due to a ton of pictures that my wife took without knowing that they were being backed up. How can I manage my icloud and delete unwanted pics??????/

This article explains options for managing your iCloud space: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4847.  For photos, don't rely on iCloud to back these up.  Import them to your computer and then delete them from your phone as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  Doing so will reduce the size of your iCloud backup, thereby reducing the amount of storage it takes in your iCloud account.

  • How can I free up space by deleting old photos from i photo? Have deleted files from iPhoto but that does not seem to free space- is it stored at a different site?

Want to free up disk space by deleting photos but unable to do so

    To delete photos from iPhoto:
Drag the image from the iPhoto Library (Either Events or Photos view) to the iPhoto Trash. Empty it. Then empty the system trash as well.
If space is an issue you can run a Library from an external drive:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Or move part of the Library to an external drive.

  • Can't free up space on iCloud - deleted backup returns

My Mom just upgraded her iPhone 4s to an iPhone 5s.   She backed up in iTunes and restored the backup to the new phone.  I told her that she would need to delete the iCloud backup of the old iPhone before the new one would back up since the backup is 3.3 GB and she only has 5 GB of space.   The problem is that every time we go and delete the backup it immediately comes back.
This is what we did on the phone (iOS 8.1.2):
    1. Turned off iCloud Backup and deleted old backup.
    2. At this point, iCloud said there was 5 GB of space free.
    3. Turned on iCloud backup.
At this point it said there wasn't enough free space to do the backup.  It said another 1.8 GB was needed.  Checking the used space it said 3.3 GB of space was used.  This was immediately after turning backup on, before even trying to backup.  So the old backup data was still there even after deleting it.
Her old backup was 3.3 GB so the new phone backup should be the same 3.3 GB so she should have enough space to do it.
Anyone have any idea how to clear out the iCloud backup storage so it doesn't immediately come back when turning iCloud backup on?

Read my initial post.  I went into manage storage and deleted it.  Double checked that it was gone by checking in icloud for windows.
Despite the warning about there not being enough space to back up, my Mom was able to successfully initiate an iCloud backup manually and it completed.  The backup is only 3.3 GB.

  • How can I free up capacity on iCloud? - I only have mail on it!

  • How can I free up space in 4S

I have a 4S running IOS 8.1.1, and am having problems with my email.
It is the 16 gig version, and I am using 9.8 gb of storage.  I would like to remove my "mail storage, 1.9 GB and Photos and camera storage 3.6 GB, but can't seem to be able to do it.  I am assuming the mail storage is just eh emails that are stored on the phone, and can be removed if I no longer need them on the phone (I save important mail on my MAC Pro).  The photos and camera I believe are the pictures that I have transferred to my MAC Pro, but still on the phone.  If I get rid of these two storage items, I would have 5.5 GB of storage available, although not sure if this would solve my email problem.
Please let me know your thoughts.

    Hi noelmac,
To delete mail from your iPhone you would delete them, then delete them from the trash.
Work with multiple messages - iPhone
For the photos, you would want to sync them to the computer and delete them from the iPhone, either after the sync or manualy later.
iTunes: Syncing photos - Apple Support
Note there is a section for "To delete synced photos and videos from your device" and "To delete Camera Roll photos and videos from your device"
    Take care,

  • I can't free up space on my time capsule.

I called Apple and they suggested I delete some back-ups that I don't need to free up space on my time capsule, to make it work better.  (Info says I have 17.5GB free out of 998GB).  So, I went into my time capsule via finder, and just deleted about 10 backups. The deleted back-ups no longer show in time machine, but the free space on the time capsule didn't change.  How can I free up space?

Have you tried dragging and dropping the iTunes file onto the Time Capsule, opening iTunes, trying to play a song, and when it pops up and says "We were unable to locate the file, would you like to locate it?", clicking locate, then going into the folder on the Time Capsule and selecting the file? That will make it reassociate everything that was "lost" when the folder moved, and I'd think it'd change the location of downloads as well.
    Hope this helped!
    -Briana
