How can i get firefox to ask me to open or save a download?

firefox used to ask me to open or save a file when i downloaded it and now it doesn't, is there a way 2 change it back 2 the way it was?

Found it!
If you go to Tools/Options/Applications there is a list of file types. Here you can select what you want fireFox to open downloads with by their file type. not sure why it decided to swap from selecting an application to just saving the file, but it did.
Looks like fireFox will no longer pop up the "open with" box on an unknown file type anymore though.

  • How can I get firefox to ask for password on all log-in sites?

    Firefox has stopped asking to save my log-in passwords on "certain" websites. I checked my tools options, there's a check mark in the remember password box, and there's nothing in the "exception" or "allow or block" options. Can you help, please? Thank you.

    Brand-new MacBook Pro running Lion OS (10.7.1)

    Hi cor-el -
    Thanks for directing me to the Mozilla help pages for passwords. I had already done that to no avail.
    I had deleted the particular saved password from my Saved Passwords list (because it didn't include my username), and I now want to add it, but FF won't offer a second chance to save.
    The password is not in my Saved Passwords list nor is it listed in the Exceptions.
    (I'm running on a brand-new MacBookPro with OS Lion 10.7.1.)
    I found the following and tried it, but it didn't work:
    • delete site from bookmarks
    • clear history when FF closes in prefs
    • quit FF
    • restart FF
    • uncheck clear history when FF closes in prefs
    I still can't seem to make FF offer me a second chance to save a password for a particular site.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • How can I get Firefox to allow AOL to open. It will not allow!

    Firefox a warning that I will be redirected to another page (aol.com) and I select the allow box., but it does not redirect or allow. HELP

    See:
    *Firefox > Options/Preferences > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"
    The setting in "Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

  • How can I get Firefox to stop saving the open tabs when it closes and reinstating them the next time it opens?

    Even tho' I've set options for Firefox to delete history when it closes, it still remembers my open tabs and tries to reinstate them the next time it starts. This causes two problems: 1) it takes longer for Firefox to close, such that if I start it again a few sec later it is still running and won't restart; 2) it sometimes reopens websites I am no longer want when it next starts. The latter also makes the last sites I visited visible to the next user, which I (and I suspect most other users) want to avoid. I would like to turn this feature off since it is far more of a problem than a benefit!

    @cor-el
    I have the same problem.
    My settings are already configured to "Show a blank page". It does show a blank page normally, but when FF crashes, it attempts to reload all the tabs from the previous session when it restarts. My version is: Firefox/3.6.13, and I'm running XP sp3 if that matters.

  • How can I configure Firefox to prompt me to open or save a PDF file when I click on one instead of just opening it in Acrobat?

    There is a registry key that can be edited to have IE do this. Is there a way to have Firefox pop up a dialog box asking what I want to do with the PDF file?
    Here is the IE registry key:
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document.7]
    "EditFlags"=hex:00,00,00,00

  • When clicking "Save image as" how can I get Firefox to auto add a (1) (2) etc at the end of the filename if an image with the same filename already exists?

    How can I get Firefox to automatically rename images when clicking "Save image as" on the menu, when an image with the same file name already exists in the folder??

    Hello,
    That is not a feature that is supported natively within Firefox but there are various add-ons which I think will do the job you need.
    The one I have used is [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/web-slide-show/?src=search Web Slide Show]. This is primarily an add-on for viewing a slideshow of images when they are presented as thumbnails on a web page. However once you are in the slideshow there is a download button which will download all the images in the slideshow. It will automatically rename the images if an image with the same name already exists in the folder.
    If you don't like that add-on then here are some others that may do the same job:
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/image-download-%E2%85%B1/?src=search Image Download II]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/En-us/firefox/addon/image-picker/ Image Picker]
    I hope that helps. Let me know if not.
    Also I notice that you are using Firefox v23. That is now an outdated version. To get the latest security updates I suggest updating to version 24. See the support article here: [[Update Firefox to the latest version]].

    On my other computer & my wife's computer, when I click on 'Bookmarks' I am asked which folder I want to use to store the bookmark.
    It used to work that way on this computer but now it does not ask where to save the bookmark. I just saves it in the 'Recently Bookmarked' folder.

  • How can I get firefox to execute perl scripts from local files

    I have created perl scripts on my local host (file type ".pl").
    In MS Windows I have associated that type to a perl interpreter installed on my local host.
    IE allows me to create links to them and to execute them (after asking for permission).
    How can I get firefox to do the same? It doesn't seem to allow me to add application types, only to change those that are already defined. As a result, in firefox, they just show up as text, instead of being executed.

    First guess is that you did not use an .html extension on the file. The file may well be ''name.html.txt''

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

    Firefox can have multiple home pages if you wish. Each home page that will open when starting Firefox is separated by the "|" character.
    See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
    To have new tabs open a specific web site, add one of the following extensions:

  • How can I get Firefox to search my computer for plugins that are already there?

    How can I get Firefox to search my computer for plugins that are already there?
    Adobe's Flash player is already on my computer from IE 8. How can I get Firefox to see that it is already on my PC and use it so I don't have to download it again and possibly create other problems. Also, in my efforts to download Flash, Firefox activated IE which made me concerned that proceeding WOULD cause problems our just leave me where I am now where IE can use Flask but Firefox cannot.

    Internet Explorer uses a ActiveX version of the Flash player plugin as it does not work with other browsers.
    Download the Plugin-based browsers version from https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html and make sure Firefox is closed when you install it.
