I am trying to get my iPad to read to me how do I do it

First go to settings> general>accessibility> speak selection> on.
To make it speak highlight the passage like you do when you copy and paste a sentence, then tap speak.
If you want your iPad to read a book to you it's best to get an audio book.

iPhoto 08 would not read RAW files from that new a camera. You need to upgrade so you can get more up-to-date version of OS X and iPhoto. Another possiblity is see if iPhoto 11 will run on 10.5.8, if so you should update. You can also attempt to run Software Update and see if it finds a newer release of iPhoto 08 that supports newer RAW formats.

What do you mean by get out? You want to see the list? Clicking on the pair of glasses controls the display of the list. The glasses are in the gray bookmark bar. Click once to open and click again to close the reading list.

My quess is that the new software just doesn't allow the disk drive to work. I would love an explanation why this doesn't work and some help getting it to work. It's really frustrating because I get a bunch of CDs from work and never get to listen to them on my MacBook.

Make sure the discs are free of finger prints. The optical drive cannot read a disc with smudges and dust.
Check Finder > Preferences > General
Make sure: CDs, DVDs, and iPods, is selected.

Lack of these options must be an oversite and hopefully an update will soon be comming out implement these quick features across the board on all apple devices?!?! Until then - any ideas?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

I recently went to itunes to update my ipad to ios7. Upon doing so, itunes promped me to save the content on my ipad to my computer, which I did. The update was successful, but now I can't get the content back to my ipad. Does anyone know how to do this? I try and the ipad says it is restoring ipad, but then goes back the the "Hello" status.

It's not officially supported, and you won't be able to copy any content back to the flash drive from the iPad, but there is this post which describes a work-around (and I haven't tried it) : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3422226 . And if you are using a flash drive then generally they won't work with the camera connection kit - most of them need more power that is supplied to the iPad's port, so you'd probably be better off with a SD card if you really need to copy them on that way.
There are a number of apps that support Dropbox, transfer from your computer via wifi, or you could use email attachments - are they options that you could use instead of connecting a flash drive ?

It sounds like your audio cds are not being seen in iTunes when you insert them into your drive. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article about that very subject:

Microsoft or your computer's manufacturer may have released updated software. Check to see if there are updates to Windows or to the software that controls the drive. How can i get Mac to read a certain type of file?

i will cut to the chase
i have some files from a voice recorder on a WINDOWS pc
i stick a 512 mb flash drive in the windows pc's usb slot
now i got the files on the flash drive
i stick the flash drive into the Mac Minis Usb slot
it shows the files but cannot play them
How can i convert what is in the Flash drive to a Macintosh playable file
AND should i do it while the flash drive is in the Windows or the Mac mini computer
Side note: the software for the voice recorder is windows only
the website for the PC Recorder(sony) does not have Mac Software on it
so i want (hope / need) to go voice recorder->windows pc->Flash drive->Mac and then convert the file so Mac can read/ play it.

The simplest way is to use Switch/Swift Sound (if their site is up) or acWAVE(commercial software with a 7-day trial) - in Windows to convert the DVF files to mp3 or some other Mac-friendly format.

I've found that the easiest way to view old texts is by archiving them to my computer using a program such as PhoneView (Mac) or TouchCopy (Mac or PC). I generally save important threads to a .pdf for future reference.

How can I get the Adobe Reader download to accept that I have deleted Adobe 7.0?

Assuming you mean Adobe Reader, you may want to try the following.
Remove all traces of Reader (not only the program) from your system using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. This is no longer supported by Microsoft because it can produce problems with Win 7, but you can still download it from from places like

Newbe Apple user here. After upgrade to iOS 5.0.1, apps backed up on my Desktop computer are not appearing back on my iPAD. How can I get IPAD to get all my from computer?

I managed to sync my iPAD to my home computer, update everything and backed it all up (or so I thought).
However, after finishing the iOS upgarde from 4.3 to 5.0.1, most of my apps and tools, all my books and manuals and games - everyting I purchased and most of what was free, is missing from the iPad. I can still see it on my home computer.
Is there such a thing as a reverse sync where you get your stuff from your computer back on the iPAD, and can someone please point me to some information on this process, or even just give some basic steps?

If the content is on your computer, then sync it to the ipad. Instructions in the manual.

My test instrument is outputting a 5 line string but labview only read until the carriage return. how can I get it to read the whole string?

I have a labview sub-VI reading the string being outputted by a pH meter. The meter outputs a 5 line string and labview is only reading up to each lines carriage return, there-by giving me 5 separate strings is there anyway to rectify this and have the 5 line read as one string?

Yes, LabVIEW will automatically update. What happens is that the old serial functions still exist in 7.1 and above but the code (the block diagram) has been modified to use VISA functions. Older versions of LabVIEW are fully supported in this manner. The only way you can avoid the automatic update is to have the old serial functions in an llb and your top level VI refer to these. Having any VI that was part of vi.lib in an llb is a very bad idea and the way to fix things is to remove any VIs in the llb that are part of the LabVIEW distribution.
I don't remember how the old serial config worked and what the new version does with the VISA Configure Serial Port. Your program should only have a single serial config and you might just be able to directly replace that with the VISA configure Serial Port.
