    Well I'll guess you're using iPhoto 11:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

On the bottom bar of the window (on the left iPhoto 11, on the right in other versions) note the slider. Drag it left.

I've tried rebuilding the thumbnail database, but that hasn't helped.

What version of iPhoto and system are you running?
Try moving the Zoom slider at the bottom of the iPhoto window all the way to the left.  Does that let more than one photo display in the window?

  • How can I get all photos from iPhoto to automatically back up to iCloud from my Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 operating system.  Not enough memory to upgrade.

How can I get all photos from iPhoto to automatically back up to iCloud from my Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 operating system.  Not enough memory to upgrade.

You can't.  iCloud is not for general file backup from a Mac. It's for backup up and syncing data between mobile devices and and Macs and  The following is from this Apple document: iCloud: Backup and restore overview.
iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your (mobile) device using iOS 5 or later. Once you have enabled Backup on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch .....
    What is backed up
You get unlimited free storage for:
Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books
Notes: Backup of purchased music is not available in all countries. Backups of purchased movies and TV shows are U.S. only. Previous purchases may not be restored if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
Some previously purchased movies may not be available in iTunes in the Cloud. These movies will indicate that they are not available in iTunes in the Cloud on their product details page in the iTunes Store. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
You get 5 GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails
But not from a Mac.  If you want to backup your photos and other important files I suggest you get an external hard drive and use  it with Time Machine.

  • I'm trying to do a book using iphoto 11 (9.4.2), but i don't get a low resolution warning. Why? and how can i get the warning., i'm trying to do a book using iphoto 11 (9.4.2), but i don't get a low resolution warning. Why? and how can i get the warning.

I'm trying to do a book using Iphoto, but it no longer gives a low resolution warning like it used to in the older versions.
I don't know why it doesn't anymore, (or maybe I have to add it on somehow??) but it makes it difficult to know how much I can
zoom in on a picture and still have it be good printable resolution.
Does anyone know how to resolve this or add the warning to the latest version of iphoto?
    Thanks

With iPhoto 9 the low resolution for photos warning has been dropped. The only warning one will get now is for text that has overflowed the text box:
As Larry suggested send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html to get it back. That's a big omission in my opinion.
You can determine what your minimum resolution is for your images (if all taken from the same camera) by dividing the pixel dimensions by the size of the larges frame in the book which would be 8.5 x 11. If it's at or above 150 dpi you'll be above Apple's previous resolution warning limit.

  • How can I get iPhoto '06 to quit? It refuses to quit.

You know that loud, wind instrument sound that plays that means, "Don't touch that button again because nothing will happen if you do"? Ever since late last night my iPhoto '06 has been scaring me off my last nerve with that sound.
FIRST, it hid in the Dock, way far to the left (which is where I keep my Dock), barely showing its right edge, inaccessible as any of Mike Hammer's cool blondes. After switching my Dock to the bottom I was able to tweeze iPhoto out by grabbing on to a hair of that right edge and coaxing it back onto the desktop.
THEN, I could not quit iPhoto. Clicking onto any of those three buttons at top left yields that haunting wind instrument sound. Neither could I quit iPHoto by going to File > Quit.
THEN, I turned my iMac off, hoping that doing so would put iPhoto '06 away. I was wrong. So I let my Mac stay on through the night. "Let" is deceptive, too, since my Mac would not shut off with iPhoto still opened up.
NOW it is morning and iPhoto is exhibiting the same recalcitrance: It will not let me quit it.
I have been working hard on my iWeb website and hate to think that my brand new iPhoto '06, purchased in July, '06 as part of the iLife '06 package, has gone south and taken my iWebsite things.
PLEASE, can someone advise me on this?
    Thank you.

Running Disk Utility from your Installer DVD. Insert
your Installer DVD. Once mounted, restart and hold
down the C key to allow the Installer to start up the
system. Select Disk Utility (I believe it's
accessible from the Help Menu).Click on your HD in
the left panel and select "first aid" - repair disk.
If there are errors, rerun the repair function until
    you have a clean run.
    .......... Lorna says ................................................
I am not so clear on what you said. I do have Disk Utility in my Hard Drive and perhaps two weeks ago I clicked onto it for REPAIR PERMISSIONS. I was told to do that about once a week, so I do.
So you are saying that I should also click onto REPAIR DISK. Well, you know, I never did that ... only did the REPAIR PERMISSIONS. 8-(
*You mentioned an Installer DVD. What Installer DVD? I do not have one, to my knowledge. Do you mean the Tiger DVD that I installed in June or July, '06?
Run a 3rd party Utility such as
OnyX. Automation panel - select repair
    permissions, maintenance scripts, full optimization.
    Once completed "restart".
    .......... Lorna says ................................................
This is the second time that OnyX has come up. I think that I would be wise to get that Onyx. I now have your and Niel's posts printed out so I can refer to the specific instructions.
I think I'll click Repair Disk after I finish the Apple Discussions Forums.
    Thank you!
Remember too, the best maintenance step is having a
current bootable backup of your HD.
    .......... Lorna says ................................................
I have a LaCie external hard disk. How do I make a current bootable backup of my Hard Drive? Do I just drag my HD icon from my desktop to the LaCie icon? Is it just that simple? I was told that I could just drag icons from my Mac HD to the LaCie hard disk and have duplicates just like that, just that fast and simple. You concur even when it is a duplicate of my Mac Hard Disk/Drive?

When trying to open iphoto I get the error message "You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete." How do I fix this and get my photo's back?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

After upgrading to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5 my shared photo streams seem to contain no photos when seen in iPhoto. From iPad the streams are fine. How can I get them to be recognized by iPhoto again?

Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.

  • I'm unable to download iMovie/iphoto, as i didn't buy the mac brand new, it only gives me the 'accept' button when i try to download, i don't mind purchasing, it just doesn't give me the option. any ideas how i can get around this?

I recently purchased a second hand new macbook air, although it was second hand to me the previous owner had never actually turned it on. So i went through all the set up steps when switching it on for the first time.
My problem is that iPhoto and iMovie are not installed, and when i go to the app store the icons have an accept button, it then prompts me for my apple ID, obviously these a registered to the original owner, and says i need that ID in order to download them, or i'll have to purchase them.
I'm happy to purchase them, but it doesn't give me that option, every time i search for them in the app store they always come up with the accept option and no purchase option.
Any idea how i can get round this would be great fully appreciated.

Something doesn't make sense here, though I'm not saying the previous owner is lying....
Time to send your serial # to iTS and let them see what's happening here.

  • Can some please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my Mac

Can someone please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my new Mac.  I ended up getting a bunch of duplicates. My old Mac has an older version of iPhoto while the new Mac has iPhoto '11.  Is that the cause of the problem?  Please advise.  Thanks.

Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Printing photos from iPhoto 9.5.1 on my printer yeilds garish two color prints. Exporting the photo from iPhoto to desktop then printing from Preview works fine. How can I get good prints from iPhoto?

When printing photos in iPhoto 9.5.1 with my HP inkjet printer the multitude of colors in the photos are reduced to two, Magenta and Yellow. If the photos are exported to my desktop (MacPro) and printed from Preview, the colors in the prints are fine. How do I get iPhoto to print the colors correctly?

    Brad
What settings did you use in the Export Dialogue?
When you go File -> Export you get a tabbed box with various options. In the File Export tab you can choose to scale the pics, or keep them the same size, change or retain the format.

You can make the collages easily if you have iWork.  Just open a letter sized page in landscape mode and drag the photos onto the page, rotate and postiion as necessary.  Then do a Print ➙ PDF ➙ Save PDF to iPhoto to get a 200 dpi jpeg version of the Pages page into iPhoto.  From there you can add it to your book and use a blank page with the option to have an image as the backbround.
If you have a 3rd party image editor that supports layers you can create the collage with it.

If you are running Lion then all drivers are distributed through Software Update. You do not need to install anything, other than to install the printer in System Preferences > Print & Scan. If you already added the printer while it was connected using USB, you might want to delete it and set it up again wirelessly to avoid confusion. Or, give them two distinct names e.g. "Photosmart D110 (USB)" and "Photosmart D110 (wireless)".
All scanning functions are now performed using Preview, but you can also access the scanner through the same Print & Scan preference pane, or with Image Capture.
This HP document may help explain how driver software is distributed now:
