How can i get iPhoto to open if it says i need to use a new version?

When I try to open IPhoto it says "You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto." I have been through the discussion lists and have seen other people having the same issues. They were told to dump the preferences file, and to rebuild a new library. Neither of these seem to work for me. Can anybody help?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
This sometimes happens if there's a Photo CD in the drive of the machine.

  • How can I get iPhoto to open?

Suddelnly, after working perfectly since I bought this iMac, iPhoto won't open.  It's there in the dock but it simply won't open.  I am very worried about my photos and ensuring that they are there AND that I can access them.  Online forum don't give any clear guidance.  Can anyone give this computer illiterate iMac user some really clear instructions as to how to solve this problem?  Thanks.

Do you get any errors or any on-screen messages when you try to open it? If not then you may need to rebuild the iPhoto Library. Please read:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2638
and see how the instructions there work for you.

  • My Thunderbird has stopped downloading messages--how can I get it to function again. I have rebooted and downloaded a new version.

I disconnected my antivirus (Norton) and tried again, with no luck. Thunderbird says that I have 10 messages and tries to download, but then hangs up and quits. This happened all of a sudden with no seeming cause.

Thanks for trying to help, but the instructions (see below) are too complicated for me to follow. So I'll just have to leave my Thunderbird with its broken wings alone until perhaps a new version comes out in which this problem is resolved. I never experienced it before--until I installed Windows 8.1 (so maybe that's the problem!).
If you're not signed in to Windows, tap or click the power icon Power icon from the sign-in screen, hold Shift, and then tap or click Restart
Or, if you're already signed in:
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
Under PC settings, tap or click General.
Under Advanced startup, tap or click Restart now.
On the Choose an option screen, tap or click Troubleshoot.
    Tap or click Startup Settings.
    Tap or click Restart.
On the Startup Settings screen, choose the startup setting you want.
Sign in to your PC with a user account that has administrator rights.
Some options, such as safe mode, start Windows in a limited state where only essential programs are started. Other options start Windows with advanced features (typically used by system admins and IT professionals). For more info, go to the Microsoft website for IT professionals.

  • How can I keep iPhoto from opening?

I'm currently using iPhoto v5.0.4 and Panther 10.3.9, and am fairly new to both. My question is how can I get iPhoto to stop automatically opening and loading my photos into it when I insert my memory stick into the card reader attached to my Mac mini via USB? I want to just load the photos onto my HD, and not into iPhoto.
I've looked at the iPhoto preferences and can't find anything to turn off the automatic opening up of the application.
If I can't stop if from doing that, how can I copy the photos in iPhoto to a separate file on the HD?
    Thanks,
    Esther

Oh wow! Worked like a charm. I never would have figured that out. Thanks!
If you have time, could I ask you another question? If I've gotten the photos onto my HD, and decide I want to copy them into iPhoto so I'll have them in both places, how do I do that?
    Thanks,
    Esther

    It's almost certainly too late.

How can I set home page for a new tab? how can i get firefox to open the home page every time i open a new tab in Windows vista home basic??
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

Firefox can have multiple home pages if you wish. Each home page that will open when starting Firefox is separated by the "|" character.
    See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
To have new tabs open a specific web site, add one of the following extensions:

How can I get iTunes to open to Library instead of the iTunes Store.  It does it on one of my computers, but I don't know how I did it.

For me, iTunes always opens to whatever I had selected previously when it was closed.
In other words, if I had Apps selected when I closed iTunes, the next time I opened iTunes it would be on Apps.

  • In my received emails, how can I get Firefox to open URL links that begin with "click."?

In my emails, how can I get Firefox to open links that begin with the word "click."? Instead of giving the me the message that says, for example, "Firefox can't find the server at click.americas.links.hp.com." This also happens when I try to open the links using Explorer.

This link was not valid when I clicked it. Please contact the person sending these links they do not seem to work. The page takes me to a page that says it will load after 5 seconds, however there is not valid link.

  • How can I get iPhoto on my Mac to recognize my new iPhone 6?  (iTunes does recognize it!)

I got one of the new iPhone 6s (the smaller version) and it's been working great.  I was able to restore an old backup from my 4S and transferred everything over.  iTunes recognizes the new phone and I've had no problems bringing files within apps on the phone to the computer like before.  HOWEVER, iPhoto doesn't even recognize the phone so I can't import new photos off the phone.  How can I get iPhoto to recognize it?  I tried searching for the phone as a drive via iPhoto and that didn't work either.

So says my computer.  Honestly, I'm not tech-wavy in the least so I just take its word for things.

  • How can i get iphoto 9?

I am running OSX 10.5.8 and I have iphoto 7.1.5  I just spent many hours creating a calendar.  When I went to purchase it, I got an error message stating that apple doesn't support calendar purchases in iphoto 7 any longer, and I need to upgrade to iphoto 9 at the mac app store.  Since I am not running mavericks or yosemite I don't have the mac app store, so how can I get iphoto 9, and will it even work with 10.5.8?

  • How can i get iphoto on my IPAD if i already have it on my macbook pro

how can i get iphoto on my IPAD if i already have it on my macbook pro?

See this page, if your iPad qualifies for a free download: Free Apple apps for iOS 7 compatible devices
iPhoto on the iPad and iPhoto on the Mac are completely different programs. The Mac version cannot run on the iPad, because the operating systems and the processors are different. Don't expect, that iPhoto on the iPad will be able to do the same things as your iPhoto for Mac, pr that you can keep the two iPhoto libraries in sync.
Se this help page for a description, what iPhoto on the iPad can do: http://help.apple.com/iphoto/ipad/2.0/

  • How can I get files to open automatically upon download?

I would like files I download to open automatically and for the download window to be turned off. I know how to turn off the download window, but cannot get files to automatically download.

Hi JJMack. Thanks for getting back to me.
I think I've created confusion about what I want. All I want is to end up with a file that is flattened so that I can save it as a tiff without getting a warning that it contains layers. Please correct me if I’m wrong but I’ve always assumed I should always flatten a file before I save it as a tiff unless I specifically want to retain layers or transparency. I’m only talking here of files that open with a single layer: ie. Layer 1. I assume that if I don’t flatten such files the resultant files will be unnecessarily big?
The only reason I keep saying I want a Background layer is that I know that a flattened file will only have a Background layer. I don’t have any desire for a Background layer per se. I certainly don’t want to add extra layers - quite the opposite.
So perhaps the question I should have asked should have been:
How can I get files to open 'ready-flattened' by default so I can save them directly to tiff without having to manually flatten them every time?
    Cheers
