  • How can I get iTunes to recognize the apps that are missing from the library screen but still on the machine??

My apps are not showing-up in the iTunes library but they are present in the apps folder. How can I get iTunes to recognize their presence?
Library-Apps-All (only three of several hundred appear).
Apps are still present in Users-Music-Mobile Applications
    I am running iTunes 11.0, OS X 10.8.2 on a Mac Pro.
Ran Disk Utility, Techtool, Disk Warrior and then reinstalled Mountain Lion, updated it and repaired permissions. No change.
There is a file that says 'iTunes Library (damaged), which is the iTunes Database file. How can that file be re-created?
Any technical help on replacing that file with a new, fresh one would be appreciated!

It has always been very basic to maintain a backup of media and other important files.  If you chose to reinstall the OS without having a backup, well that just is not smart.
If you are in the US and running iTunes 10.3 or later, iTunes purchases can be redownloaded via iCloud.  Simply log into the iTunes store, select purchases, purchase history and redownload the content.
If you are not in the US.... well, seems you just learned and important and possibly expensive lesson.

    Hello there,
It sounds like your iPod Nano is not seen in iTunes. I recommend the troubleshooting steps from the article named:
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369
Here is an overview of the troubleshooting to be done:
    1. Start with the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant
If you haven't already done so, use the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant that applies to your iPod. This will often solve your issue.
If you're still experiencing the issue after going through each of the steps in the assistant, continue with the steps below in this article. The most likely solutions are listed below (for both USB and FireWire (IEEE 1394) iPod connections). Check each section starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping your iPod from appearing.
Note: To determine if your iPod syncs via USB or FireWire, check the table in the Additional Information section below.
    2. If your iPod displays an exclamation point folder or sad iPod icon
    3. Charge the iPod and make sure it is getting power
    4. Secure the iPod's connections
    5. Disconnect other USB Devices
    6. Determine whether your iPod's cable functions properly
    7. Place the iPod into Disk Mode
    8. Determine which format the iPod is in
    9. Verify that USB drivers are installed
    10. Determine if Windows confuses iPod with a network drive
    11. Determine if third-party software may be causing conflicts
    12. Reinstall iTunes
    13. Make sure FireWire card is a WHQL-certified IEEE 1394 card
    14. Check for a conflict in the FireWire chain
    15. Determine if there may be an issue with your computer
    16. Your iPod needs service
If the issue persists, try uninstalling iTunes and its associated apps with this article named:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

  • How can I get iTunes to recognize my iTouch? And I can't force restore, error 1611. Help?

My iTunes does not recognize my iTouch and I want to restore it to factory settings. I am not able to restore due to an error 1611. What does this mean and how can I get my iTouch to work again, currently it won't even start to charge.

Error 1611: This error may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Alsoattempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value (00 499901 064000 0) can also confirm a hardware issue. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured proxy or security software, such as FoxyProxy, can cause error 1611. To troubleshoot third-party security software, follow these steps.

  • How can I get itunes to recognize my 7th gen. ipod nano

My wife bought me an ipod nano the other day and I am unable to get itunes to recognize it in the device menu. I have spent over 2 hrs attempting differnt suggestions with no results. I down loaded the newest version of itunes and when I plugged in my ipod nothing popped up and I was never given a chance to set it up. When I open the side bar there is no device option to sync music to the ipod, so what can I do?

    Wile connected to your computer:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button until the screen goes dark. The Apple logo should appear after a few seconds, then the Home screen should appear.
That is a reset and your nano should show up.

  • How can I get iTunes to recognize information imported from media as audiobook vs album?

I imported a series of audio cd's that contained lecture material into iTunes.  It sees these disks as albums not as a single set of audiobook portions.  Therefore, everytime I listen to a portion of the lecture material, I have to remember exactly what disk and track I left off on.  However when working with audiobooks, iTunes apparently knows to place a bookmark where I left off so that when I choose the book, it starts where I left off.  How can I get this behavior for my lectures?

If they're MP3, use iTunes to convert them to AAC (M4A) and then use a batch renamer to change the extension to M4B. THEN they'll stay where you left off.
If they're AAC already, then just change the extension to M4B.

  • How can I get iTunes to recognize deauthorization?

I'm trying to deauthorize two old devices so I can Order music on my new computer. I have gone through the process several times and iTunes still days I have 5 devices authorized. How do I get my message through?

I believe you have to deauthorize a device while at the iTunes store on that device. Once a year you are allowed to deauthorize them all - you could do that and then re-authorize your current devices.

  • How can I get Itunes to recognize all of my music

I've gotten a new computer and have put all of my music stored on an external drive. I have downloaded itunes, changed the directory to find music to the external drive with my music but it still only chooses some songs. Help, please.

    Morning, rozlee.
Getting our music succesfully from one computer to our new computer is always one of those things we just want to have done. I was able to find the following article which reviews what file formats are compatible with iTunes specifically.
Adding music and other content to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1473#2
Compare your file formats to the information under "Adding Content on your computer to iTunes":
Adding content on your computer to iTunes
iTunes helps you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats. You can also add video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format to iTunes. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.
    Open iTunes
From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
    MacAdd to Library
    Windows
    Add File to Library
    Add Folder to Library
Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add
Hope this information serves to be useful. Thanks for using Apple Support Communities to find answers to your questions.
    Cheers,
    Pedro D.

  • How can you get iTunes to recognize a PC as a PC (not an OS as a PC)?

I have three PC's and all three are dual-boot. Of course each PC can only be running one Operating System (OS) at any one time - regardless of how many  may be available.
It is important to me to have my music (iTunes) available on each PC regardless of which OS I happen to be running. But I can't have my iTunes music on all three of my PCs with the 5 PC Authorization limit working incorrectly.
The limit of five PCs should work fine for me (since I have only three PCs) - except that iTunes erroneously considers an OS as a PC - not a PC as a PC.
So with three PCs each of which has (at least) two OSs iTunes does not allow me to authorize (and play my purchased music) on all three PCs - only two of them and sometimes on the third - depending on which OS I happen to use.
Another problem caused by counting an OS as a PC (instead of a PC as a PC) is that when an OS crashes and cannot be repaired - iTunes demands to Authorize it yet again before playing the (same) music.
When testrng a new OS reloads are sometimes required - even after running stable for some period - therefore it is easy to use up 3 of the 5 PC 'Authorizations' on one OS on one PC.
It would be so easy to fix these (manufactured) problems - just Authorize a PC as a PC - instead of an OS as a PC!
It should be easy to Authorize a PC as a PC by using a unique identifier such as the motherboard serial number as the PC ID. Although the MB may be changed that is far less likely than the constant upgrading and changing of the OS.
Right now I have an OS (Win 7) that will not start all the way. I fixed the Boot Record(s) and reloaded Boot Manager, but it stops after the first cursor and before the welcome screen. After spending a certain amount of time debugging and recovering all my data I would normally just re-write the drive, but I had already Authorized iTunes on it - just after using my (once yearly) clear of the five Auths. So I have to spend days and days trying to recover something I could rebuild in an hour - just because I need to save the iTunes Authorization. All the other software (including the OS and Office) will immediately re-Activate on the same PC. But not iTunes.
What is the work-around for this error of calling an OS a PC? and... How do I recover a previous Authorization on a PC when I have to rebuild an OS on that PC?

Hi turingtest2 - thanks for the reply. As you say It is how it is - and I have three workstations in this home (not counting three for my children and one for the family) and I pretty much always have more than one OS on each - that's how it is for me. I shouldn't have to worry about how many OSs I have (or how often I change them) just to have music while I'm working - through the PC sound system that is. I never have to worry about any other software, only iTunes. Once in a while (in the past) I've made a vendor call if I changed to many things to often (like CPU, GPU, memory, etc - or even a replacement MB) - but that hasn't happened in a couple years (at least since Vista) so I think (hope) they have fixed that for good. And even then it was a quick call and problem resolved. The only (glaring) constant problem is iTunes - limiting my own use of my own music (by counting an OS as a physical PC). Even with VM (which is just another OS) - although you can Attach things to multiple active OSs - it's still your own (purchased) music - and all on one PC. Thanks again!

  • How can I get iTunes to recognize my new iPod shuffle?

I have a new iPod shuffle, but when I plugged it into my MacBook Pro to charge it and put music on, nothing happens. It does not appear to be charging and does not show up on my iTunes. The USB port works fine, and iTunes recognizes my iPhone and iPad. Is there something I am missing here. or should I take it back to the store as defective?

    Hi all :-)
I have also a problem with a new ipod shuffle
I plug it and itunes alerts me that something went wrong.
I have MBA 13" 2012 on Yosemite, Itunes is up to date
If someone has a solution. Thank you
