How can i get my Imac, running OSX 10.6.8 with a 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, how can i get Final Cut Pro 4 and DVD studio pro 2 to run on it?

I just bought an IMAC running OSX 10.6.8 (not sure what flavor that is). The processor is 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (Late 2006). When i run Final Cut Pro 4 on it I get the following error.
                    "Configuration error
                       This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing
                                * AGP graphics Card"
If Final Cut Pro 4 doesn't run on my system, what version of Final Cut can I run on this as I am a filmmaker and really am comfortable with Final Cut Pro.
On the same note I also have DVD studio Pro 2 and that just quits without any message.

This is my first mac in a long time so i'm not sure about what this mac is as i didn't buy this from apple (ala Amazon). I'm a tad confused about the Intel/PowerPC thing. Mountain Lion is a 64-bit operating system, and an Intel Core Duo processor is only 32-bit, so you can't use Mountain Lion on your Mac. You can keep using your actual OS X version or buy a new Mac if you want Mountain Lion

The easiest way is to install Rosetta from a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD first.
There's also a way of doing it via Terminal that's been posted here a couple of times. A search should bring that up.

Remember the retail 10.6 currently does not include the App Store, and those upgrading from 10.5.8 or earlier will need to both buy the retail 10.6, and download the combo 10.6.6 update, not to mention ensure they have the correct processor and 2 GB of RAM. Finally once it is available, you'll have find out how long approximately it takes to install after the download is complete.
These times do not include installation time, which on a MacBook Pro 3,1 15" installing on a Firewire 800 Newertech Voyager with WD10ACS-322J80 drive, 10.6.7, took 1 hour and a half to complete the installation from double clicking the install command to the registration screen. These times may vary by connection speeds from a non-dedicated connection, or background application usage of the internet. Any applications running when the installation process begins might interfere with the installation itself, and they should be quit first.
The installer just before it starts has in its package contents an InstallESD.dmg file a DVD burnable image to install on additional computers in the home without downloading over again. So if you desire to reinstall without an extra internet download, extract that file, by selecting the installer in the dock, and control-clicking it, and revealing it in the Finder. Next Control-mouse click it, and select show package contents. Inside that folder is a Shared Support folder. That's where you find the DMG.

I use wireless to connect to the Internet and everything works fine when I sign on. After being on line for awhile and my remaining battery power at about 60%, I lose connectivity. I turn off Airport, restart it, and I am asked for my secure password. I enter the password but cannot reconnect. So, I shut down the computer for 5 to 10 minutes, restart, and everything works great again.
Has anyone experienced this behavior and do you have any suggestions as to what is causing the problem.

Can I avoid re-encoding of .mov files with Compressor and DVD Studio Pro?

I've had some projects banned at one of the tracking sites because my iMovie 6.0.1/iDVD 7.1.1 workflow involves re-encoding of the iMovie .mov file to MPEG 2 when authored in iDVD. I did some research, and was advised that I could get around the re-encoding by using Compressor and DVD Studio Pro instead of iDVD. But, when I import the iMovie file to Compressor for authoring in DVD Studio Pro, the result is another MPEG 2 file. So, am I missing something, or is there no way for me to avoid re-encoding with Apple video production tools.

The simple fact that you have to encode your files into an mpeg-2 stream means that you're going to experience a loss in quality. Check the bitrate of your DV files. The max bitrate for all of the elementary steams (audio, video) on a DVD is 9.8mbps. So if your source has a higher bitrate than that... you're going to experience "lossiness."
However there are some tricks that I've read about that increase the overall quality of compression... and yes they are for windows. Check out AVIsynth and MeGUI... there is a learning curve to learning these tools though. I never followed through with it.
EDIT: Also forgot to mention that learning these things takes TIME. Quality encoding takes much longer than realtime.
You can also check out some higher quality mpeg2 encoders like cinemacraft and HC encoder, although the former costs $$$. The quality you get from these encoders are much better than what you have in iDVD and DVDSP/Compressor.

Apple keep telling me I need to update to icloud but I'm not sure if Lion will work on my Mac. I've upgraded to snow leopard which seems to have knackered my .me or .mac account (whatever it's called now), so I don't seem to have any option but to upgrade to Lion if I every want to see my emails again.

If you have a Core Duo model then you cannot upgrade to Lion. You can upgrade to Snow Leopard, but iCloud is not available for Snow Leopard.
Open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. Look for the Model ID in the displayed information. If you have a MacBookPro 2,1 or later then you have a Core 2 Duo model and can upgrade to Lion.

Here's something to consider. I see you have 1G RAM. That works well enough for Tiger 10.4. However, I think Leopard or Snow Leopard will be happier if you increase the RAM.
Your MBP can handle up to 2G of RAM. It has two RAM slots'In your case, there would be one 512MB module in each slot. You could replace one 512MB module with a 1G module and have a total over 1.5G. That would be a big help. Or replace both. If you are in the US, RAM is not expensive (see: 2.0GB Upgrade Kit (1.0GB Modules x 2 Matched) for US$33), and the RAM is easily installed even by the most novice user.

I'm afraid not. I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro 17" 2.16 GHz.
The Core Duo is not supported with Lion - you need Core 2 Duo or higher.

Hi, I have used the forums to search for info in the past and they are a great source of info.
I am trying to look for ways to link my Imac Intel Core Duo (with OSX 10.5.8 and GB Ram + a Dvi output for video) (which is in a cupboard which I record music) to my TV (which is in a far more comfortable environment!)
As the cupboard is next to the living room my bluetooth keyboard and mouse will be usuable on the mac but I want to see the display on the TV!
Is this possible?

DVB-C recorded DVDs to Final Cut Pro to DVD Studio Pro and Flash - how?

As a TV journalist I am recording my works with my DVB-C Receiver and a DVD-Harddisc-Recorder from LG. The movies are stored on the harddisc and I burn them to DVDs in order to work with the files on my computer. What progrograms do I have to use in order to get file out of the DVD-vobs, that Final Cut Pro can read an work with. DVB-C is MPEG-encoded, right? But I don’t want to loose quality and don’t want to encode the material several times? In Final Cut I want to get rid of commerials and cut severel movies together that were broadcasted on several days. After that I want to get two differt files: 1. A flash movie form my website and 2. A file form my archive. With those files I want to complile DVDs with DVD Studio Pro for my customers later. Can anyone please give me a good and professional workflow to solve this common problem? The model 1,1 Core Duo can only run in 32 bit. Lion only runs in 64 bit which needs a Core 2 Duo model 2,1 or better which can run in 32 or 64 bit.
