How can I get my iPod Classic to be recognized by my laptop through a usb hub?

My new XPS 13" recognizes my iPhone 4 when run through the 3.0 USB Hub but not the iPod. If I connect thhe iPod directly to the XPS iTunes will recognize the device.

recommended only 2.0 usb.

  • I can not get my IPOD classic to be recognized on my laptop

I have a new dell laptop and can not connect my IPOD classic to my iTunes library...the computer indicates that it does not recognize the IPOD at all...very frustrate...

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
    4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • How can I get my iPod Classic to play playlists in the order I selected them to play ?

I've had my new iPod Classic for a couple of months, and with the help of a couple of third-party books (e.g., the missing manual), I'm getting comfortable with its operation. But here's a baffling issue: It appears there's no way to select, say, three or four playlists in iTunes and to synch them to my Classic so that they play in the order I want, much the way I did for  many years with my 5-disk CD player. Note: I assiduously avoid shuffling, and I do all my synching in iTunes manually.  I'd be grateful for any help (or workaround) to deal with this irritating issue. Thanks to all.

On the iPod, create an On-The-Go Playlist.
Navigate to the first Playlist you want to use; press-and-hold the Select (centre) button until the Playlist name flashes. This puts that playlist into the On-The-Go Playlist, which is located at the bottom of the Playlist menu.
Now navigate to the second Playlist you want; press-and-hold the Select button until the Playlist name flashes. This has added the second Playlist to the On-The-Go Playlist.
Repeat for each Playlist you want to add.
Once you have added all the Playlists you want, scroll down to the end of the Playlist to On-The-Go list. If you go into the On-The-Go list, you will see all the songs form your other Playlists, in Playlist order. Simply scroll to the first song and press the Select or Play to start the first song playing.
By the way, there was no missing manual. No manual was supplied.

  • How can I get my IPOD Classic to play books using Gracenote?

In the past I have been able to use my IPOD classic to listen to books on my cars using the USB connection. My new Car a (2013 GMC Terrain) will play the book, but I have no control of it if I try to pause it, it will revert back to the radio view and I have replug the unit.  Unfortunately, GMC added the Gracenote indexing software to the Intellink, so that it doesn't recognize the books, only songs. Is there a solution for this? No help from Audible or GMC.

  • How can I get my ipod classic to connect to my computer?

So I downloaded Sharepod to get the songs on my iPod to my computer. And now when I connect it, it'll charge. But when it goes to sync anything new it does it for a minute then starts ejecting then a pop up shows up saying that disk (D:) is not connected or something along those lines. I tried to reset the iPod, doesn't sync after. What do I do to get it working again?

    Hi Gaskarthfan01,
I would recommend going through this troubleshooting assistant:

  • HT2292 How can I get my ipod classic to show up in devices in itunes?

I need help.  My Ipod classic does not show up in devices.   I go to device manager and it does not show up.
    help

Apple's documentation doesn't mention this as far as I can see: however it's correct that subscribed calendars could not be viewed on MobileMe (though they did sync to other devices: however it would seem that what was synced was the details of the subscription, not the calendar itself, so that effectively the other device just subscribed to the calendar afresh).
I think that, subject to  correction from someone who's managed to do this it's a safe assumption to say that you cannot view subscribed calendars on the iCloud website, and that this is very likely a limitation of the CalDAV process.

  • How can i get my ipod classic to play old podcasts first

first of, the ipad classic is fantastic and apple will be wise not to discontinue it.  anyway, one thing that gets my goat, is that when listening to podcasts it plays the newest first in sequence.  Why on earth would this be right?? anyone know how to change it?
    kind regards

It's possible that Apple have realised that this is an odd way to make the iPod work because the iPod Touch has a much improved listing for Podcasts. (I own both. Guess which one I use for Podcasts!)
I realise this isn't much help to you now, but it does suggest that Apple have sorted it out for newer models and you may want to consider that if you ever think about replacing the Classic. And yes, it is fantastic.
Now if only the iPod Touch had 160Gb of storage...

  • How can I get my Ipod to play on someone elses computer?

How can I get my Ipod classic to play on someone elses computer.  Not my home computer where my library is stored?

The simplest -- and safest way for both sides -- is to use the same sort of cable you use for the AUX port on your car -- an min-jack to min-jack cable. Plug it into the headphone plug on your iPod, and connect it to the Line-In on the friends computer. This eliminates any risk of your iPod being detected by iTunes on your friends computer and getting corrupted, and also elimates any risk of malware attempting to corrupt the iPod. If you are worried about battery, simply connect your iPod to an external charger when you do this.
When I'm at work, I never connect my iPod to my work computer. I just use an external speaker. The iPod is only connected to its primary iTunes, and then I only update that iTunes when it is absolutely necessary.

  • My laptop died, how can I plug my ipod classic into a new pc with out losing all my music, over 10,000 songs?!

my laptop died, how can I plug my ipod classic into a new pc with out losing all my music, over 10,000 songs?!
    Please help!

Was your iPod previously set up to Manually Manage (where you dragged/dropped the music) or was it set to auto sync (where it started sycning as soon as you plugged it in.)?
If it was set to Manual, you have no worries. Just continue on your way.
If it was set to Auto, you will have to transfer your purchases or redownload them from the iTunes store.
You're either going to have to get the other music back from the websites/CDs you got them from before or find an iPod ripping software program that will do it for you.
