How can I get my iTunes remote to work on my laptop?
I have a remote for my desktop that controls iTunes on it, however I rarely use it because I recently got a Macbook Pro. How can I get the remote to control iTunes on my Macbook?
The desktop remote will only work with your desktop. If you purchased a new Macbook Pro, its remote is sold seperately.
At one time, the remote was included. Unknown when it all changed.

Please see the bold. If you're out of icloud storage, then you won't be able to backup to icloud unless you purchase more storage, but yet you said you backup to icloud.
If you really did backup to icloud no data would be loss - sounds to me that it didn't backup since you had no more free icloud storage space.

Delete the broken links in iTunes then look at your purchased list to redownload.
If this happened because you were deleting files from the iTunes folder in Finder, don't. You have to let iTunes do all the deleting and moving or you will end up with broken links. -

You don't use Airplay. You set up Home Sharing on both and under the Computers section of AppleTV you'll then find it under Movies (or Rentals if rented), assuming it's in a compatible format.

What version of iTunes are you running on your computer? You need to update to the current version.

Whether you can get an iTunes gift card depends upon what country that you are in - they are not available in all countries and they are country-specific, they can only be used in their country of issue and only onto accounts that are based in that country. If they are available in your country then you might be able to get them from Apple, or from electrical stores, supermarkets etc
