How can I get my laptop to 'trust' my iPhone?

When I connect my iPhone 4 (or could be 4s-not sure of the difference) to my dell laptop it asks me if I 'trust' this computer. I hit 'yes' but the same message pops up again i.e. it won't recognise that I do 'trust' the computer. (I'm trying to transfer pictures to my laptop and have been able to do this in the past)

Mine keeps on asking me for at least 3 times before it finally trust my computer. It happens it you have been using several computer to backup your device. Get the latest iTunes as well

You can't. It's too late for that.
If you had iCloud backups turned on, hopefully, the camera roll is already backed up there. If you didn't, you'll just have to hope that the data is intact when you take the phone to the Apple Store to have the screen replaced. In theory, if the only thing that's damaged is the screen, then replacing it shouldn't wipe the data. If more is damaged, the entire phone will have to be replaced. Apple can't back it up for you.

Have you checked to see if the media files are still on the computer? See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.

By code, I think you are referring to the code on your iPhone. To sync for the 1st time with iTunes you'll need to enter the code on your iPhone to unlock it. Typically if your phone is unlocked and then connected to your computer, it will lock itself. Just reenter the code. Then you should get another prompt on your iPhone to "trust" your computer so you can sync with it.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone (if you're using iOS 7), then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. last thing you can try would be go to settings, general, settings, reset all settings
if that does not work, a factory restore will be needed...

Is it an iTunes backup or an iCloud backup? If iTunes, connect the iPhone, right click on the name of the iPhone under the DEVICES section in iTunes. Click on Restore from Backup.
If iCloud, on the iPhone go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. When the device powers back on, you will see the original setup screens you saw when your iPhone was fresh out of the box. One of these screen asks you if you want to restore. Choose Restore from iCloud backup.

Please try the following…
First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

If you connect your iPhone to a computer running Linux (Ubuntu version in my case) it will become recognized as a normal USB memory pen-drive.
From there, you can use many methods to recover your lost deleted files.
TestDrive allows you to search the drive (iPhone memo) and gives you the possibility to recover deleted files. I'm not an expert, nor did it with iDevice by myself. But it worked for me with Symbian phone (Nokia)...
