How can I get past the corporate email set-up "Can't connect to the server" message?

I have followed all the directions, double checked all entries, but still can't set-up my email account.  HELP!

First, have you asked your "Corporate" IT group for help?  That may be the place to start.
Secondly, if IT is of no help what are "all the directions" that are you following?  Be specific.  Are you using the stock Email app?  Trying to set up the account manually or automatically?  If manually do you know all the port addresses, server names, and security types that you are using?  POP3 or IMAP?
Thirdly, a common mistake is using "name" instead of "[email protected]" for your username when setting up the email.

    Try resetting it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then releasing.  You won't lose any data by doing this.

    Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. It the problem persists  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

    3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
    NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    If the new library does'nt have that problem then your original library is damaged. Post back if that's the case and we'll go from there.

    This was in the iTunes window. There were hyperlinks (or whatever the in-application equivalent is) on "Learn More", "Not Now", and "Set up Find My iPhone

    I go through a lot of firewalls that aren't under my control (I use a high school's internet to cut a long story short) if that is relevant.

    Garygargar is spot on.  Just unplugged my network cable and relaunched Itunes.  Got past that FindMe screen, plugged the cable back in, wait 10 seconds,  and on my way.
    I love it when the first google search result is the actual fix for something!

  • Can't get past a "locked file" error, ie can't Publish?

    This software is very very very difficult to configure -- but
    I'd suppose you've heard that before re: Contribute C3. This is
    trying to get a new client (we're a web hosting co, who just got
    them from their previous web hosting firm who sold them on
    Contribute....idiots!) Anyways, I've had NOTHING but troubles with
    this app.....
    I learned how to operate the app, and how to generate a KEY
    to send to the new client, and made them an Admin and sent same and
    then went over there to their offices. My client rec'd the CONN KEY
    that I made. We ran it on their computer when prompted to by
    Contribute. we then restarted with them now as an Admin. Working at
    their offices, I was able to connect, then edit a page on their
    website no problem -- BUT -- as soon as I tried to PUBLISH same,
    you get a yellow bar up top that says "You can't edit this page now
    becuase you are already editing it on another computer. Click here
    to make this page editable" WTF???????????
    This statement is wrong. No one else (other than me and my
    computer is OFF) has the abiltiy to edit that page. No one else has
    the credentials to enable Con to work on that client site
    either...so....?????
    I then click the 'here' and I get the notice that Contribute
    must unlock the page (stupid non professional app!!!) and I then
    try YES, and I get the dialog that says "no, access is denied or
    there may be a permission problem."
    This too is not correct. I personally made the perms for the
    whole website folder structure read/write and they work fine. I can
    use my own CMS system to login and make a change that works
    perfectly.. But not using Contribute....sigh....and that client
    WANTS to use Contribute....sigh....
    Could someone offer help here? Adobe Tech support in some
    other country doesn't seem able to understand my problem, let alone
    help, let alone feel any sense of urgency as this is a CLIENT for
    christsakes.....anyways...here's my questions...
    Is there a way to totally CLEAR all the settings on the
    client machine Contribute, then re-use the KEY to begin a new Admin
    role? I'm a bit fearful of deleting that website but if someone
    here who's NON adobe personnel says okay, that'd be my next step.
    Or do I need to uninstall from my own box too?
    Or, is there a way to fix this, without that deletion? I'd
    feel better about another way....but no matter. My client only has
    one eyebrow raised up at me right now, but if I don't come up with
    an answer tomorrow, that client will most likely be gone!

    Hi, try clearing the Contribute Preferences once and try the
    same scenario. Check any .LCK file is created for that particular
    page. Delete that file manually and make it editable.
    To Clear the preference, quit Contribute, and then delete the
    Contribute CS3 folder in C:\Documents and
    Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\ and
    also run the following command " reg delete
    "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Contribute 4.1" /f " if you are using
    Contribute CS3. Reconnect to the site and try the same scenario.
    Note that, if you clear the preferences then no connection
    will be listed in Contribute, you need to recreate the connections.
    It will be like a fresh installation.

    I have a dial up connection for the internet through Netzero.com, and when I click on it to dial up to the internet, it brings up the Netzero home page on Internet Explorer. I've changed my default home page from Internet Explorer, to Firefox, but when the internet is connected, Internet Explorer is the one that brings up the Netzero home page, not Firefox, so I have to click on the icon for Firefox, and then it opens, with Netzero home page on it, so I have to go through 2 different processes to get to use Firefox. I downloaded Firefox because it's suppose to be faster that Internet Explorer, especially since Internet Explorer keeps not responding when I'm in the middle of doing something. So I thought I'd try Firefox, but it doesn't seem to be faster than Internet Explorer, since the ISP that I have has a web accelerator, but it doesn't work on Firefox for some reason, I can see on a meter on my desktop when it's accelerating, and Firefox doesn't accelerate ever, if I change over to Internet Explorer, I can see the meter accelerating the web page. Hope you can help me with this problem, as I like Firefox. Thank you very much.

    Try changing firefox to the default browser: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Setting_Your_Default_Browser]. That will probably get firefox to open when you dial up.

  • New macbook pro, can't get past country selection in set up.

    What am I missing?  I'm new to using Apple laptops.  Just out of the box, I plugged it in and when I get to the "Welcome" screen it asks what country... I select US and hit enter/return and get a tone.  The arrow buttons do not allow me to do anything either.

    Same here... Anyone else having the same problem, use zimzo2's instructions: (use TAB key to cycle through the options then SPACE key to select and get past that screen)
    The "return/enter" key and trackpad tapping didn't work for me either. Thanks for posting the solution here.
    Update: Just realized that I was tapping and double tapping the MBP trackpad when you need to use the lower-corner of the pad to click. (I'm used to the separate trackpad that accepts tapping anwhere... whoops.)

    Go into settings and reset all network connections. Then restart your device by holding the power and home button until the Apple logo appears. You will not lose any data. When the device restarts connect to your wireless network.

    Just got a new iPhone from Apple store. Tried to restore from backup, but can't get past the "connect to iTunes" screen on my phone. I can see my phone in iTunes, have synched it to my computer, installed phone updates from my computer, but still can't get past the "connect to ITunes" screen. I am connected...I can't figure out what's wrong that I can't get past this screen to my home screen.

    I can't change my Apple ID.  It would mess all my stuff up.

    To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone (if you're using iOS 7), then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

    Thanks, Andrew for your help.  Not sure if you will see this, but I did the above and it said the HD was okay.  Rebooted it and still won't go past login page.  Tried it again and this time typed in the line /sbin/fsck -fy and then it came up and said HD was okay, but said something about being modified.  I once more rebooted, but it still won't get past the login screen.  Besides taking long to reboot, as before, I am able to enter my password, but then it hangs up with the rainbow icon rotating continuously.  Does this mean that the disk is corrupt or partially so, and if so, can you advise how I should proceed?  TIA again.
