  • How can I get rid of Yahoo Search starting up everytime I click + to open a new tab

I recently downloaded a product (can't remember what it was) but
it included the Yahoo Search Toolbar. Now, although I have
disabled the ToolBar, everytime I click on + to open a new tab it
ALWAYS brings up Yahoo Search Box before I can type in the ULR I am wanting to open. It's driving me mad.
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of Yahoo Search Box. It does
not appear in "Add or remove programs"
    Thank you

  • My Mac Menu Bar has 2 Abode Icons.  How can I get rid of one?

Hi there. My status bar has a "Creative Cloud Icon" (with the number 6 next to it) and a second "Adobe Icon" (with a 5 next to it).  See attached.
When I click the Adobe icon, it just opens Creative Cloud updater anyway.
I don't mind having the creative cloud icon, but the other is redundant, takes up space, and displays different information.  How do I get rid of the second one?
    Thanks, Jon

    Hi There,

  • How can I get rid of Yahoo search on Mountain Lion  safari .

I have tried everything to get rid of Yahoo from my newly installed Mountain lion upgrade. I have a MBP mid 2011 17".  . I'm used to using Safari so I would ltke to keep using it. BUT, even though I have Google as my default or perferred search engine, Yahoo keeps coming up. I have already tried hiding tool bar & then individually putting up the print , home.etc. icons. But that doesn't work either. I have searched for an answer to no avail thus far. It's beginning to look like I either use Yahoo w/Safari or switch to FF or Chrome. Any answers I will be grateful for. Thanking you in advance. I could just scream at this point. LOL
And one other thing is bugging me to death. Is there any way to enlarge the toolbar & icons on Mountain Lion. They are very tiny...too tiny. I've tried everything I could think of.

  • How can I get rid of a search engine that doesn't show up in my list of search engines?

I installed a toolbar from Inboxdollars and since then every time I search for something it uses as my search engine something associated wit yahoo called serp.freecause.com and then I get the "problem loading page" message because it can't find the server at that address. I've uninstalled the toolbar and even took yahoo off my list of search engines. But nothing gets rid of it. Any suggestions?

I ran a complete scan with Norton Antivirus. Cleaned the Registry, history, temporary files and did a Virus Scan. It actually worked. I did not install anything to get this, but used an unprotected Wireless network and I think that/s how I picked it up.

  • How can I get rid of Dregol Search opening tab?

Every time I open the Firefox the Dregol Search comes on the screen. I would like to get rid of it and to create my own starting tab.

I looked up Dregol search and there may well be external components you need to remove to prevent it from being reinserted into your browsers. You may already have done a first pass, but here are some additional suggestions:
    (1) Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can surface undisclosed bundle items that otherwise are hard to spot in alphabetical order. Take out as much trash as possible here.
    (2) You can search for remaining issues with the '''scanning/cleaning tools''' listed in our support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]]. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.
Finally, you can delete the Dregol search plugin using the Search panel in Options:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Search

  • How can i get rid of smart search from safari

Every time that i search on safari or google chrome my search engine comes up to be
    something called smart search?

    Hi!
Please follow the advise given by Linc Davis. It worked for me.
This will be my last comment in the thread, and it's addressed to anyone who has the same problem as the original poster. If you have a different problem, search the site for answered questions similar to yours, and if you don't find a solution that way, start your own thread.
You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow Apple Support's instructions to remove it.
If you have trouble following those instructions, see below.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. This procedure works as of now, as far as I know. It may not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
    and
               com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable string of characters, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes it's a meaningless string such as "e8dec5ae7fc75c28" rather than a word. Sometimes the string is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the string something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
where something is the same string you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name; it doesn't vary. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • How can i get rid of Safe Search permanently - it keeps coming up as a plugin

When I try to search in Firefox, the search keeps going through Safe Search, which apparently is a site that hijacks the Firefox browser. I think I have deleted it using my anti-virus program, but Firefox keeps listing it as a plug-in

By the way, some extensions have the ability to hide, so it can be useful to test searching in
    '''Firefox's Safe Mode'''
This is a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled ''(Flash and other plugins still run)''
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
Any improvement? Please check the Extensions section of the Add-ons page to see whether anything new is appearing and if it can be removed.
If the problem still occurs in Safe Mode, you may want to check:
    '''Connection Settings'''
By default, Firefox will connect using IE's settings, which I think are the same as Windows' settings. Please check both of the following:
    (A) Firefox
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button
The default is "Use system proxy settings" but try "No proxy"
    (B) Windows
Either in IE or the Windows Control Panel, call up the Internet Options dialog. On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings. If anything is checked here, make a note of it, then try unchecking everything.
    Any difference?

  • How can I get rid of the malware on my macbook air?

I have not downloaded any suspicious programs or clicked on any links but suddenly today, ads keep popping up on google and on websites like Tumblr, Facebook, etc. Pictures are even turning to ads, like the picture gets replaced with an ad for a farm game. I have disabled extensions, I have deleted cookies and cleared my cache, I have put chrome adblock on, and that keeps a lot of the ads away but the same 'mackeeper' link pops up on google search no matter what, as well as zeobit.com. I'm worried I'm going to have to get professional help.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Yesterday, a search tab comes on when I start firefox. How can I get rid of it?

I seldom use tabs, so the tab bar was always hidden. starting yesterday, when I opened firefox A search tab is present. A single tab is also present. The search tab is very similar to the search button on the right of the navigation bar. So it is redundant.
How can I get rid of this search tab?

Can you uninstall the "Default Tab" extension as that is considered malware and is causing this search bar?<br />
    Otherwise just disable this extension.

When I highlight one to delete, the search kicks in. How can I get rid of the history?

You can go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, cookies and data and then delete every bookmark and that should clear it temporarily, but it will only be temporary. As soon as you starting using the search again, then suggestions will appear again.
I think that I may have misread your question - if you want to clear all of the history - use the Clear History button in the upper right corner of the History window. You cannot delete one item at a time.
