How can I get Tiger OS disk

A friend gave me an iMac G4.  70 HD & 768MB Ram.
I tried loading Leopard 10.5 but after erasing the HD for a clean install, a message shows that 10.5 cannot be installed.  The drive won't open so I have this iMac G4 with an erased disk and my copy of Leopard residing in the disk drive.
Questions:
(1)  How do I get the drive to eject the disk?
(2)  Where can I get a fresh copy of Tiger 10.4 disk?
TIA.

Tough without the Install disc, but some things to try...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
/sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

Tough without the Tiger Disk problems, but try fsck...
To use fsck, you must run it from the command line. Unlike using your mouse to open an application to do something, you'll need to type a text command at the prompt (#) to tell fsck what to do. The Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) and single-user mode are two examples of command-line interfaces in which you can type such commands. To use fsck:
1. Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line. Hold CMD+s keys down at bootup.
Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
2. At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
(SPACE between fsck AND -fy important)
3. Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:

The volume (name_of_volume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****

Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
4. When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.

  • How can I get a boot-disk for a Compaq P2500 laptop Windows XP Home Edition?

I'm already in another forum with a eerily similar question, but that's for the HP Media Center Pavilion m8000e desktop system (Windows Vista Home Premium) I was just given; I've ordered a new hard drive for that. I assume the directions to create a boot disk with the *.iso file (using Imgburn) is going to work; I have the 25-digit code for that.
This question here now is for my wife's older Compaq P2500 2596US laptop running Windows XP Home Edition. This too needs a new hard drive, but I also am missing the boot disc for this; I do have the 25-digit product code.
How can I get a boot disk for this laptop? I tried the Ubuntu method outlined in a few posts; geez, what a headache ... never could get it managed. Does HP not make any boot disks available? Microsoft told me to check with HP.
I can furnish the product code; model #; serial# ... gee, maybe the oroginal receipt is even laying around somewhere ...
I need a boot disk to get the new hard drive up on board (if I end up ordering that).
    Thanks for any help!

  • How can I get Tiger to install (boot) on 2007 Intel Mini ?

    {continued from deleted thread]
Just bought brand new MB138LLA (labeled mid-2007) last week ('full warranty", (allegedly) "dual bootable")
Was purchased solely to be able to dual boot - either in Tiger or Leopard
Supposedly this model is capable of booting in 10.4.10 - IF had (received) the correct install disk.
Came with 2 install disks for 10.5.4 (2008)
    w/ 10.5.4 pre-installed (updated online to 10.5.7 as of 8/3/09)
    Disk 1 is labeled
    AHT version 3A152
    Disk version 1.1
    27691-6304-A
    Disk 2 labeled
    disk version 1.0
    2Z691-6249-A
Neither will launch/load from C-Boot, but does appear after 'normal' boot
I do not see any copy/memtion of Tiger (10.4.10) in the optional installation folder
How can I install Tiger on this 2007-model machine?
Is there a ANY version of Tiger (10.4.10 I'm told) that I can get to install on this machine
    (then update online later)
    per
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411updateintel.html
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html

Just talked with Apple Support - AGAIN
Finally got some one who understood that this particular model WAS supposed to ship with 10.4.10 (as I had determined PRIOR to the selection/purchase). Not only are they sending a CPU (serial number) specific install set for 10.4.10 but volutarially included expedited shipping at no charge (I didn't ask, suppose their way of an apology for the past week of nightmares and BOGUS information). Now that's the Apple "Support" I recall from decades past.
SO, YES, I can (and will) boot from Tiger on this CPU - and can do so either from an Internal drive partition or from GTP format Firewire RAID array.
All those claiming that such a feat is an impossibly have not researched the specifics of this model thoroughly.
Problem solved (in theory, waiting on disks)

  • If I bought Leopard and it failed how can I get Tiger back?

I am thinking of getting Leopard but people seem to have problems getting it running. I have an iMac Intel Core 2 Duo made last September, It's in great condition and I have an external drive, I'm wondering what will happen if Leopard screws up and I want to get Tiger back, since it came pre-installed on my iMac I don't have a disk, same goes for my iLife 06 applications. I have backed them up onto my external harddrive and I think that should work. How would I get Tiger (and possibly other applications) back if Leopard screws them up. Remember I have no discs, they came pre-installed.
    Thanks a lot,
    Michael

I wonder under what circumstances you bought your iMac that you don't have the original disks?
Did you look in the box?

  • How can I get a recovery disk for Satellite P300-1CI?

    Hi everybody,
first, sorry for my english, I'm a belgian and I speak french.
Yesterday I bought a toshiba Satellite P300-1CI, when I started, I must installed Vista home.
I would like to format my disk and reinstall my old Windows XP.
My question is : How can keep an image disk with Vista? I don't have an installation disk of Vista and don't know my registration key of it.
How can I have a recovery disk ?
    Can you help me please.
PS : Sorry for my english

    Hi mate
User manual is really interesting document and in most cases it answer all you questions ;)
Anyway, the Toshiba recovery disk should be created before you would format and install on the HDD.
You have to use the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator application in order to create the Recovery DVD.
    Now to you other question;
The Vista image which is preinstalled and placed on the Recovery disk (after recovery disk has been created) is activated already and you dont need to insert any keys or activate anything.

  • I bought my g5 at a pawn shop. How can I get the proper disks for my system?

All I get now is the apple icon when starting my computer why is that?

All I get now is the apple icon when starting my computer why is that?
Means the file system has become corrupted.  It could be because of a bad hd.  Hd's average life is five years.
Getting a leopard disk is close enough. Has all g5 drivers.  you will miss bonus software that came with machine   ... could have been iLife & some Games, etc.   Not a biggie.
Shutdown your machine.  Hold down the shift key.  Poweron.  Wait awhile Wait awhile while you harddrive
    is being checked.
        http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455
You need to get into single use mode.
This page will tell you how to get into single user mode.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492
Basically, you hold down the command-s key then  powering on your machine. The command key has a little apple symbol on the lower left. It is between the alt/option key and the space bar. On a PC keyboard, it will be the windows key, I think.  The boot up will take longer than normal.   The filesystem will be checked and repaired.
    # reboot  your mac
    shutdown -r now

  • How can I get Tiger on my B&W G3?

I have the Tiger DVD (full version) and cannot get it installed on my B&W G3 Desktop. It has a internal CD drive with a SCSI interface. I have not found a reasonable SCSI DVD drive to replace it with. I do have an external DVD FW drive.
    1. The Tiger DVD mounts in 10.3.9, opening the installer, it asks for a restart without giving an option for what drive to install it on (remember that), on restart it starts up on the normal start disk, even if I select the external FW DVD player as the startup disk, or hold down the C key.
    2. Holding the option key to choose a boot drive at startup is not recognized (I'm using the original keyboard). This process may be missing from the boot ROM of this computer, I don't remember.
    3. I cannot put it into FW or T-mode to use as a startup disk on another GX computer. This computer may not know about T-mode. I don't remember.
    4. eBay has some Tiger's which say CD, but they look just like my DVD or are for eMac and are expensive.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? This computer is mainly used for Word processing, but I would like to use a more modern Browser that knows about CSS.
    TIA,
    Bill

If you have the B&W G3 mini-tower, it has an ATAPI interface for the optical drive on the motherboard. If someone has installed a SCSI CD-ROM drive in it, it would have to be connected to a SCSI controller PCI card. If you don't mind investing about $30-$35 in the computer, replace the CD-ROM drive with an ATAPI Pioneer DVD±RW drive in the optical drive bay. Because it isn't Mac-specific, it can be purchased anywhere - including PC stores. I recommend a Pioneer drive because it tends to be more compatible with Macs, in terms of booting to the "C" key at startup. Set the jumper on the back of the drive to Master (factory default is typically Cable Select). The B&W G3 doesn't support the Startup Manager feature, so the Option key doesn't function for that purpose. Additionally, the B&W G3s don't support FireWire booting. If you have an alternate (supported) bootable source, it's best to use the 4-key combination at startup: Command + Option + Shift + Delete to select it. The CD versions of Tiger look the same as the DVDs (black disk with silver X across it) and aren't grey restore disks. The CD versions of Tiger are more scarce, so the price for them is quite high. The same has become true for the Tiger universal installer DVD.

  • Home network - How can I get Tiger & Windows 2000 to connect?

This has been an ongoing annoyance for some time now.
I cannot get my G4 iMac running the latest updated Tiger to connect to a PC running Win2K (home network) through a basic router and junction box.
Both are connected to the internet (DSL) via a router, then one of those "splitter" or junction boxes (what's the right term for this thing?) -- the connection goes from the DSL outlet on the wall, to the router, then into this junction box, which then connects the iMac and the PC to the net.
No problems with the net connection for both machines.
Way back when I first had a different PC connected to this configuration, I COULD see the PC from the iMac, and vice versa. File sharing worked seamlessly.
Then one day, for no good reason, the Mac could no longer "see" the PC ... but the PC could see the iMac. So I resigned myself to swapping files to and from the PC.
Just recently, I changed internet providers for my DSL, resulting in an entirely new IP address setup for each machine. Both machines now get the net. But now NEITHER machine can see the other.
From the Mac, I have tried:
Clicking on the Network icon in the Finder
Typing various different things into the window that results when I click "GO" then "Connect To Server" -- the IP address of PC, the name of the PC, etc.
Ensuring "Windows file sharing" is engaged in the "Sharing" window of the System Preferences
    Ensuring "Appleshare" is on
Ensuring the firewall allows traffic with windows file sharing
From the PC I have tried:
Ensuring the main drive is shared
Installed every network sharing device I could (TCP/IP, etc)
From the "My Network Places" window, tried "adding a new network place" (iMac doesn't show up)
Clicking on the "Computers Near Me" icon (nothing but the PC itself shows up)
Clicking on the "Add Network Place" icon (cannot find the iMac no matter what I type into the window, or when I click "Browse")
Why is this so difficult? Why won't it work now when it did before? Why has the machine-to-machine capability of seeing each other steadily degenerated over time?
I know I can go out and buy "Dave" to possibly get this working ... but I shouldn't have to, Tiger has been touted as the most amazing networking thing yet. And, it worked before.
Is there a way to run a diagnostic on the networking function of Tiger? Could it have possibly been damaged?

This is not normal your internal ip addresses would remain the same even if when you change your ISP.

It sounds to me your network needs to be troubleshooted before we can answer that.

You don't need Dave at all. Samba is the pc filesharing protocol and that is built into Tiger.
Is there a way to run a diagnostic on the networking
function of Tiger? Could it have possibly been
    damaged?
Yes there is away to diagnose your problem we can work on that.
    Any suggestions?
What is the make and model of your dsl modem?
What is the make and model of your router? What is the make and model of the box your refer to as splitter.
Also goto the network preferces of your mac and post back what your ip address is and what router ip address you have.
On your pc goto the start menu, click run, enter the work 'command' press enter.
    In the dos window type
    ipconfig
    press enter
    and post back the results.

  • What is minimum RAM allowed & how can i get tiger or panther on the iMac G3

i have 3 iMac G3 computers, one is running tiger, one is running panther and the other is running jaguar. i would like to find out the amount of RAM needed for each of the 3 systems so that they run smoothly and a tad bit faster than they are going just now. You can see in my model info the models of the iMacs i am using (two slot, one tray). Any help is greatly appreciated.
i know tiger runs good with 512mb RAM (it runs like a charm on my Power Mac G4 anyways) but, i am unsure how much i should buy for the other two models. I ain't even sure what the max RAM allotments for them are (i think 1gb). again help is appreciated.

... but, i am unsure how much i should buy
    for the other two models.
If you can afford it & want the fastest response, buy the maximum RAM each can support. It really does make a difference, particularly with older Macs with slower drives. That's because when RAM runs low, the OS "pages out" chunks of memory to the drive & "pages in" other chunks. Since this takes a lot longer with older/slower drives than the latest SATA ones, you see many fewer "spinning beachballs" when launching apps or loading documents, plugins, etc. with enough RAM to hold more of it at once.

  • Re: Satellite L300-18D - How can I get a Vista Restore disk?

    Hi everyone
My laptop (Satellite L300-18D) was seriously infected by viruses, everything corrupted. I need to resinstall Vista but don't have the restore disk. After searching around I managd to download a restore disk from some site, but when I used this disk, it gave me an error code which meant the product key was wrong. I used the product key from the bottom of the laptop (I trust this is an OEM). So I guess I need a restore disk that will work with my OEM product key.
How can I get this restore disk that will work with my OEM licence?
Also, I tried to install XP on my laptop, but it kept giving me a message saying it could not detect the hard disk, there is nothing wrong with the hard disk, I have tested it on another laptop. Is there any sort of barrier o installing XP on this laptop which came with Vista originally. Is there a security meassure somewhere that stoped me from installing XP?
    Thanks in advance

  • If Mountain Lion comes pre-installed on my machine, how can I get the OS discs if it's only available via download?

Had someone ask a very good question, I think.
If you buy a new Mac that has Mountain Lion pre-installed on the machine, you are able to download updates as they come out; however, you can't necessarily download the Mountain Lion installer via the App Store since it came already installed on your computer.
So my question is, how can you get a OS disk/drive of Mountain Lion if your computer fails? I know Apple has the Recovery drive, and even the Internet Recovery drive, along with Time Machine and whatever else, but what if none of these options are available to recover the computer?
I suggested to the person to clone their hard drive using the 30-day trial of Carbon Copy Cloner. That way, they have a bootable image with the OS already available in case they run into this option. BUT, what if that isn't even an option? How does one go about recovering their computer if no OS disc of Mountain Lion is available?
I haven't been able to find anything about workarounds besides the methods I mentioned above, so please tell me if I am missing something.

you can't necessarily download the Mountain Lion installer via the App Store since it came already installed on your computer.
Not true. You can go to the Mac App Store and download the installer
(from the link that WALTER-MILANO-ITALY posted above)
Install OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion
If you completed your installation of OS X, your installer may have been removed after your successful first login to OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion.  Mac App Store's Purchases page should show Install OS X as being "Installed", and disallow its download, when viewed from a computer running OS X.
To redownload the installer on a computer running OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion, press and hold the Option key while you click the Purchases tab. If the button to the right of the Install OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion item doesn't change to "Install" and allow you to download OS X, use Spotlight to search for "Install OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion" on your computer.

i have a powermac G5 with no hard drive, i installed new HARD DRIVE, BUT NEED A BUILD DISK OSX 10.4. How can i get one?

You need a Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" retail installation DVD or CD. Find one on Amazon or other aftermarket vendor. They are commonly available, though the price can be high ($100 or so).
Be sure it is the full retail installation disk, black in color. Grey discs are machine-specific and will not work except for the exact same model Power Macintosh with which it was shipped.
