How can I get my email out of the file box icon? Sometimes I touch it by accident and the email message goes in there.
Another thing to try is renaming it with a .htm or .html extension.
If that doesn't work either, do you have any other files from your old system? In particular, if you have your old places.sqlite file, you could use that to overwrite your new places.sqlite (bookmarks+history) file. -
I just downloaded Photoshop Elements 12 and it downloaded just fine, but when I tried to install it, I keep getting a message that says "The file archive part of adobe is missing" but they're both on the same folder and it seems that Windows won't recognize it or won't read it
you need to download the matching exe file, too. put both in the same directory and click (or double click) the exe.

How can I get Elements 13 to read RAW files from Nikon D750?
I've upgrade my camera from the Nikon D3200 to the Nikon D750. With the D3200, I used Elements 11 to edit both JPEG and RAW files, but found out today Elements 11 isn't compatible with the D750 to read RAW files. I downloaded the trial version of Elements 13--which is compatible per the Adobe help desk, but the RAW files shot with the D750 still aren't being seen; however, I do see RAW files that I took with the D3200.
Same memory card is being used and I formatted the card when I changed it from one camera to the other.
What am I doing wrong? I almost always shoot RAW, so I need to be able to the files.
I'm wondering if Elements 13 really is compatible with the D750.
I want to add I'm using a MAC.
Thank you!
ShannonI was able to figure out the issue--the D750 files must be converted to DNG files first, then I can upload them to Elements and edit them as I would a RAW file.
If anyone else is having this issue, I found the video helpful: Learning | LR/PS - The Advantages of the DNG File Format | Photoshop.com.
You can find the free DNG converter here: Photoshop Help | Digital Negative (DNG)
This works for both MAC and Windows. -
Ok, we've had a problem with our external hard drive which holds all of our music files (our H drive). It's the 2nd time going down and we're just chalking it up as a failure. Fortunately, we had it all backed up onto another external hard drive (our G drive). We re-did iTunes back in February (bringing all the files in, sorting, playlists, etc) after fixing it the first time. So I have that exact files from then (on the G drive) minus a new CD or two, nothing major. But when I open that iTunes library, it doesn't find the music that is connected to it - even though all the music is in the folder connected to the library (all in G drive). I'm not sure if this file is still trying to look for my H drive folder.
I found a previous question asked on here about the ! songs. I brought in all the music from the iTunes/Music folder. So of course, I have double now. I would just go delete all the rest - except for this. What about my playlists?? I don't really want to recreate each one manually. I have also adjusted a ton of info in iTunes over the years to make things easier (fixed spelling when it brings it from a CD wrong, etc). That brings me back to wondering if I could have iTunes automatically search for its own file instead of me doing it for 7,500+ songs.
Any ideas?? Or am I just stuck doing a lot of work?
Thanks! If what is on the G: drive is a mirror of what was on the H: drive, then get Windows to change the drive letter of G: to H:
If a simple fix isn't forthcoming then my FindTracks script should be able to reconnect the missing tracks to iTunes. FindTracks uses some fuzzy matching routines and searches for multiple potential locations. For more details see this thread.

How can i get my computer to read pdf files?
My computer has stopped reading Adobe pdf files. I keep getting a Microsoft Word File Conversion box which asks if i want to use Windows Default, MS DOS, or other encoding to read file, but nothing works. I have un-installed and re-installed Adobe Reader X on my Dell/Windows Vista PC but that hasn't helped.
How are you trying to open them? Have you tried one of them from within Reader? If you can, it sounds that you have a problem with files associations.

How can I get iTunes library to display the new names and organisation of tracks and albums (ie files and folders) that I have renamed and reorganised (using Windows Explorer) having previously imported them using iTunes?
(Even when I relocate "lost" tracks in iTunes (using the drop down menu facility to view in Windows explorer), although iTunes will then play the track, and knows where to find it, it refuses to display the track with its correct (new) name, or show it the correct (new) album. That means I have lots of things called "Untitled" and "Track 01" etc, all of which have actually been renamed, but iTunes does not seem to have the capability to recognise the changes and update its library listing. Another example - a Tchaikovsky CD with 3 major works in 13 tracks insists on displaying in iTunes as 13 tracks in one album, despite the fact that I have reorganised the tracks into 3 albums - two being Swan Lake and The Nutcracker - and renamed the individual tracks to a more useable format.)Thanks for your replies ckuan
I agree with Tgod that your first solution does not work. It appears unpredictable whether the old or new file names are listed when you drag the folders into iTunes from Windows Explorer. The folder structure is completely missing. I reckon if you have to muck around spending days/weeks/months finding out how to fix links to a secret meta-file (obviously designed by some deep-cover microsoft worm working in the Apple!), then it's pretty obvious that almost any alternate way of doing this would be better. Bye bye iTunes!!
Incidentally, I tried several other things that (if the software was designed intuitively) should work, but give disastrous results:
1) when deleting the library listing in iTunes, it gives you two options - one is to remove the listings to the Recycler. Be aware that IF you select that option, it removes not only your library listing, but also your ACTUAL MUSIC FILES to the Recycler. Moreover, it does NOT remove the insidious secret meta-file that is what apparently keeps rewriting old names over your carefully renamed file names, and keeps totally ignoring your carefully designed folder (album) structure. OK - not a complete disaster, as I realised and went hunting through the chaos in the Recycler to recover all my files. No thanks to the genius who designed this brilliant feature!
2) after deleting the library listing in iTunes, I attempted to import just the folders that I wanted. iTunes refused to allow me to do that, and proceeded to try to import every frigging music file it could find on my whole hard drive, in apparently random fashion into the library. Whoever thought up that doozy either never ever tried to use or market test it, or has modified their mind rather too many times with artificial substances so their brain is like muesli chop suey.
3) oh why go on, it's too depressing ... -
On my Mac Pro how can I get voiceover to start reading at a specific point in a document, and then continue on to the next paragraph and so on? Thank you. Ed
Welcome to the Apple family!!!!
How can I cause the VO cursor(box) show-up/start?
Press Control-Option and F5. The F5 key is located on the top row of keys 6th key over. This is a toggling "Keyboard Shortcut" for turning VoiceOver on and off.
How can I move the VO cursor to various sentences or paragraphs of an article and have it start reading ... and perhaps even continue reading on to the next paragraph(s) ... even to the end of the article?
How to read a website with VoiceOver
Step 1: Go to the Website
A quick keyboard shortcut is Command-L. This will jump you up to the address bar. Start typing where you want to go. i.e "www.thewebsite.com"
Step 2: Working with Webpage
VoiceOver will automatically start reading the website. You can pause the speech by hitting the 'Control Button'.
If VoiceOver does not being reading the webpage, then you might have to "Interact" with it. If VoiceOver say "HTML Content" then press Control-Option-Space-Down Arrow to interact with the webpage.
Use Control-Option-Right Arrow to move throught the website. This will speak "EVERYTHING" on the page.
Most website that I've found have their articles labeled as 'Heading'. You can jump from heading to heading, by pressing Control-Option-Shift-H.
If you'd like an itemized alphabetical listing of the site, press Control-Option-I
Press Control-Option-Space on the link or article you want to view.
Step 3. Reading from Top to Bottom
Once you found and clicked on the the article/link, use the same 'Heading' command, Control-Option-Shift-H to find the title.
After finding the title, press Control-Option-A will start reading from the title on.
Note: If there are any other items (ads, pictures, etc) it will read those too.
Tip: You might be able to activate a feature called the 'Reader'. The Reader isolates the article and elimanates the ads The keyboard command is Shift-Command-R. You can also find it in the Menu Bar (Command-Option-M) under the word 'View' then 'Show Reader'.
I am using a MACPro with OSX, probably Mavericks 10.9 (where would I look to see if that is the correct information?)
You can find this information under the 'Apple menu' in the Menu Bar. To access the Menu Bar, press Control-Option-M.
Go to Apple Menu > About This Mac. This will open up another window. Use Control-Option-Right Arrow until you hear 'Version'. If you purchased it brand new from Apple within the last six month, more than likely you have Mavericks.
Recommanded Articles.

Chapter 6: Browsing the internet
Apple Accessibility Resource Page
The 'Commands Help' Voiceover Menu. Control-Option-H-H. (hit H twice) is my best friend. It's a searchable VoiceOver Menu with most of the VoiceOver command. Example: You are looking for the 'Read Current Paragraph' keyboard command. Press Control-Option-H-H and then type Paragraph. It will then bring up all the commands with the word paragraph. I believe there are three.
As from the Trackpad Commands, I've copied and pasted below from Appendix A: Commands and Gestures

How can I get Lync 2013 to "remember" the size of my conversation window
Each time I open a Lync conversation, the window size always reverts to a default that is too small. With Lync 2010, a new conversation remembered the size of the window from a previous conversation. How can I get Lync 2013 to remember the
size from a previous conversation? I have a multi-monitor setup and would also like for Lync to remember the location of the last conversation window. Lync 2010 remembered both the size and location. I have Lync 2013 and Windows 7.I believe what you're seeing is expected behaviour. The Lync 2013 client appears to remember the position of the conversation window relative to the Lync client itself. It seems like it is noting it's screen co-ordinates based on the clients location. This
works fine for single monitor, but ultimately means that a conversation window cannot remember it' location if it is on a different screen to the Lync client itself.
Regarding the window size - I believe this has come up before and is not something you can change either natively in Lync, or through registry manipulation.
Kind regards
Ben

How can I get Windows (v7 x64) to open in Dreamweaver (CS5) if I right click it?
None of the normal mechanisms of setting an application to be the DEFAULT application for the .HTML file type seem to work...
Extremely irritating.

A list of various "recommended applications" but not including Dreamweaver. It's not in the list of Other Applications either. And if I browse for it, my selection of dreamweaver.exe is flatly ignored without message.
