How can I habilitate Facebook video calls in OS Mavericks?

When I installed the new version of OS X, the video call button in Facebook was gone. I cannot send nor recive video calls in Facebook. I know there are other programs to have video calls, like FaceTime, but not all my friends have an Apple product and almost all of them use Facebook so it is the best way for me to communicate with them.

HI,
In the normal setting of Messages this is no longer possible.
I would use here to ask for the feature back
http://www.apple.com/feedback/ichat.html
The page was never very good at keeping up to date with iChat version numbers so type your specs into the Free Text area.
It might be possible to copy the AppleScript that did this  and make a copy and remove the non Video bits  and use it from the Dock.

  • How can I do a video call with my friend?

I am new to the tech world,61 yr.old senior citizen. I do not know anything yet, a tech connected to Skype so I could see and talk live to my friend via of video but she has an Apple i-phone so I can't yet. I was wondering if she's connected to face book  can I contact her via Skype to her Facebook contact she has on her i-phone that uses Apple's  version of their Skype?  Since Skype is free to the Facebook users.  Sorry, I can't be a volunteer. I can ask questions that alot of Seniors like me would be able to learn about this community and we could read some topics that we could use to start us off and reply what works in our circumstances and eventually maybe develop the skills that would makes us useful to the Program.

    Dear Newbie-61,
    Welcome to the Skype Community!
All calls between Skype users are free, regardless of which computer or handheld phone or tablet they use to call each other.  What is important is that the Skype software must be downloaded and installed on the particular computer, laptop, tablet, or smart phone that you use.  Depending upon what kind of set-up you have, you may or may not need a separate headset.  Laptop computers and smart phones use the microphone and camera that comes with them.
To download Skype, please start by clicking on this link: Download Skype   After you download and install Skype, sign on using the account you used to post your message on this Community.
Then. you and your friend can exchange contact invitations.  This FAQ article explains how to do it:

  • How can i get skype video calling to work on my mini ipad

do need an additional webcam for skype calling

No.  The iPad has a built in Camera that faces the front of the iPad you can use.
All you need to do, is download the Skype App from the App Store.  Once downloaded, Open it, and sign into your Skype account. If you don't have one, you can create one using the "New to Skype?" Create an Account > " option at the bottom of the screen.
From there just tap on a contact to bring up the Details page, and tap on the Video Call button to start a call.

  • How can you auto-accept Video Calls in Messages.app

In Ichat there used to be a way to select a user and under "alerts" (which is no longer a perference option in messages) choose to auto-accept video calls from that person.
Is there a way to set up Messages to auto acccept video calls? It was great for when I wanted to check in on my puppy.
    Thanks!

  • How to install a Facebook video call in ipad mini?

    Pls help...

You can't, the developers of the app have only made a version for iPhones - from the developer's website :
Please note: iPod and iPad devices are not supported at this time.

  • Facebook Video Calling Security Question

When I try to use video chat in Facebook, I'm directed to download a file.  The file is "FacebookVideoCalling_v1.6.jar" and it comes with this message:
Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers."
I don't want to change my security preferences because Facebook refuses to register the program on the App Store.
I also have a valid Skype account and have linked Skype to Facebook.
How do I use Facebook Video calling without relaxing my security protocols?

Thanks for the quick reply.  I should have made clear that I know how to make an exception for this piece of software.  I'm probably more troubled that Facebook doesn't seem to care enough about security to register the program.  Is there cause for concern?  Before posting this, I was reading various blogs that expressed concern about FB collecting private data while users are engaging in the video chats.  I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist, but in the case of FB it sometimes seems warranted.
Is there anyway to use security sanctioned video chat software on FB or is the only option to download their offering and then pull the drawbridge back up?

  • Since i made the upgrade to mountain lion i¡m unable to make facebook video calls , i can,t see other's people webcam

since i made the upgrade to mountain lion i¡m unable to make facebook video calls , i can,t see other's people webcam

I am having this same issue on my Macbook Pro Early 2011 running Mountain Lion. I try and use Facebook video chatting as I usually would, and although the other person can see me, what I see on my end is a still picture from their webcam that is often flickering between what my own webcam is picking up, and it continuously flickers with static lines (picture an old TV getting bad signal).
Skype is also behaving strangely since I upgraded, although it's flip-flopped (Skype is not letting others see me but I can see them)
With both Skype and Facebook, audio is having no issues.

  • Why won't my camera work in Facebook video call?

Have a new MacBook Pro running Mavericks. When I tried to use the video call feature in Facebook, it told me I didn;t have the necessary java to execute the install. I downloaded the file suggested online (Java for OS X 2014-001: How to re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 web plug-in and Web Start features) and the install went through. However, when I try to make a call it connects, I can see the other person's video and hear her/him but my camera does not activate (No green light. Person being called can hear me, but no picture appears for them). FaceTime works fine. Skype works fine. Google+ Hangout asks me to give permission to use camera, but hangs up. I also tried to make a FB video call in Safari and that did not work either (same problem).

    Because something is wrong.
You've done well determining that there is nothing wrong with your Mac or its Apple Software.

Your wifi problem sounds very much like the problem I had. The wifi would drop out, the icon showed it was still connected. If I turned it off, I couldn't turn it back on. Another user here pointed me to the problem, which was the wifi cable (the flat cable goint from the card to the motherboard). I found it on ebay for $13 and it's been running fine since I replaced it. This is the repair guide for your machine. The part number will be on there if you click the link.

  • How can I delete the recent calls list in FaceTime?

How can I delete the recent calls list in FaceTime of my Mac?

    Hello muchaim,
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to delete the recent call list. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
FaceTime for Mac (Yosemite): Make and receive FaceTime calls
FaceTime keeps a list of the most recent calls you made, received, or declined, with the most recent call at the top. To return a call, click the Video button  or the Audio button . To remove a call, select it and press Delete.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a nice day,

  • How can you get 2 videos to play simutenously together?

How can you get 2 videos to play simutenously together so both are playing side by side on screen at the same time?

    Welcome to the forum.
As Steve observes, what you are talking about is called "PiP," or Picture in Picture.
He has given you the basics of creating a "split-screen" PiP, and that should be exactly what you wish to do.
For more detail, plus more ways to do PiP, I strongly recommend his book, Cool Tricks & Hot Tips for Adobe Premiere Elements 11, from Muvipix. He has an entire chapter (Chapter 10) on PiP, and many of its uses, with detailed instructions on the settings to accomplish it. Just that one chapter is worth the price of the book.
    Good luck, and happy editing,
    Hunt
