I have an early-2008 17" MacBook Pro. I want to hook it up to my HDTV. I have a DVI to HDMI cable, and have connected it to my TV, but all I'm getting is that "milky way" looking desktop background on the tv. Nothing on my desktop, nor my desktop image is displayed. Your TV set is connected to the MBP in Extended Desktop mode. Open Displays Preferences and click the "Arrangement" tab. You will see each of your displays represented as a rectangle; the larger one will probably be your TV. Note which edge of the built-in display it adjoins. Close Display Preferences and drag a window, any window, off that edge of the built-in display, and it will appear on the external display. In Extended Desktop mode you can set the resolution of each display independently of the other, allowing you to use the full native resolution of the TV set. You just need to move the window(s) that you want to appear on the TV set onto it.
The alternative is to use Mirrored mode, in which the TV set always displays exactly the same image as the built-in display, always at exactly the same resolution setting. This is easier to understand than Extended Desktop mode, but if the TV set's native resolution is higher than the built-in display's, you won't be able to use it, and the image will be somewhat blurred on the TV. An LCD display is always blurry when used at anything other than its native (maximum) resolution setting.
To toggle back and forth between Extended Desktop and Mirrored modes, press Command+F1.

The Mini Display port and Thunderbolt port use compatible connector bodies. Your current Mini Display to DVI or VGA adapter will still work as before on the newer Thunderbolt capable machines.

I have heard about 4 different scenarios about this, and they all sound a bit complicated. I thought that you could automatically connect 3 displays with the card that comes with the MacPro. It has a DVI port and 2 mini ports, so it appears that would be for 3 displays. But this is where it gets strange. Any thoughts?

Which video card? 5x70? If you read about the various scenarios thern for 5x70's you need two active adapters for thee monitors (TV considered a monitor). And you should have seen references to these apple docs:

It's not really complicated. Search out the appropriate adapters and hook 'em up. For the 23" and 20", if they are DVI, you need single link adapters. For the TV, if you end up using the DVI port for it (because possibly you can't find the appropate adapter cmbination) then you need to handle the audio separately since DVI doesn't carry audio.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPod. Only if you back up your device manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the device for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

I did followed your advice immediately and erased all the service number as well as S/Ns.
Can you, however, give me any "direct number" through which I can get hold of someone and request for what you're suggesting?
I believe I had talked with the person by the name of "Charlie" (I think... I hope I'm correct...) when I was having the same problem with the last device. He was very kind and helpful, though I ended up getting the device that brought the same problem.
Charlie told me that if I had any more problems I should call him. But I forgot to take down his direct number.
Or maybe I should call the main office and ask for him. But my memory is questionable as to his name, and besides I don't even know his last name either. There could be more than one "Charlies" in Palm.
So, if you could somehow email me some direct number (other than the one that keeps on hooking me up with those people in the overseas who are answering the phone only to sympathize with & apologize to me but can only issue a false hope with the SRO#. More than once I was given the promise that the supervisor would call me back within an hour or two but I ended up calling back after I had been left hanging in the air all night long.) where I can talk to someone like I did with Charlie last time who can truly carry out the promise, I would truly appreciate it, patkosanke. ^^

Hey Erin how about you confirm to Elector and others that you HAVE to pay for tethering on Nationwide plans and that if you are using a 3rd tethering app to bypass paying you are violating the terms of service. They don't seem to believe me.
