How can I import an m3u playlist into iTunes that intentionally contains duplicate tracks? I want the duplicates in this case.

For instance, if my M3u file looks like the 2 lines below, only one copy of the mp3 file is imported. I'd like the same track to be imported twice.
Back To Black.mp3
Back To Black.mp3
btw, the reason I'd like this to work is that I use a separater track in playlists between groups of similar tracks. This separater is not being imported correctly as is being unhelpfully recognised as an unwanted duplicate.
Any advice appreciated.

I just did the following.
Created a m3u file with a series of tracks with one entry duplicated.
Made a new empty playlist in a test iTunes library which did not contain the files and dragged the m3u file to that playlist.
It created a duplicate playlist entry for that one duplicated track but of course it points to the same file.  If you really want iTunes to duplicate the file you will have to trick it into thinking it is a different file.  Using your library management preferences (which are identical to mine) you will have to duplicate the file in Finder so you really do have two files and add it again.  Perhaps if iTunes was managing the media it would not behave that way and might add the file twice since dragging to iTunes with default preferences settings just places a copy on the iTunes folder and leaves the original in place, so you'd be dong hte equivalent of dragging twice (I'd have to test to check this since I don't use default settings either).  With your settings it just refers to the original wherever it is.  Hopefully I've phrased that well enough.

    Where are your MPEG stored?
I have hundreds of old MPEGs stored in my nexternal drive, but unfortunatly i was not able import them into iMovie. I did the following trick: I created a new set of a folder and subfolder and called it "Virtual_CAM/DCIM" and saved it on my desktop. Then went to Disk Utilities>File Menue>New>Disk Image from Folder. Then selected the folder on my desktop and clicked enter. I moved the .dmg file to my external (or just keep it on your desktop). I clicked on the .dmg file. It shoud be visible on the Finder. Open your Imovie and import as you do from your camera.

  • Can't import some CD's into iTunes library

I have the latest verson of iTunes on my MacBook. When I try to import some CD's into the iTunes library, it ejects the CD back out. It doesn't happen to every CD; just some. What is causing this, and how can I import these CD's into iTunes?

Thanks for the suggestion. CD's are clean; no finger prints or dust. Still can't import into iTunes. A little background-- I had iTunes on a PC previously. When I transferred the library to my MacBook, I noticed some CD's were not transferred. This is one of the CD's I had in iTunes on my PC, but is now not in iTunes on my MacBook. Why can I not add this and some other CD's to iTunes on my MacBook?

  • Re user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? - I've followed instructions so far so good, until I get to "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?

Re AppleMan 1958 excellent user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? -
I've followed instructions with success until  "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?
I installed MGEG Streamclip 193b8 and used their utility to install quicktimempeg2 and got a message stating it was successfully installed.  (I'm on latest Maverick 10.9.2 on iMac)  Then I dragged the VIDEO_TS file from my home DVD into the streamclip app.  It asked which of 4 files to use, and I selected the first one.  Streamclip played the video with the sound.  so far so good. but now I cannot figure how to use quicktime player 10.3 to export this vob file out of streamclip.

Thank you for your quick reply and for clearing up my confusion.  I'm exporting the first section now.  I choose the smallest size, 3x4 but I'd prefer to go higher as this DVD was originally a VHS home movie.  I'm wondering if after three conversions (VHS,->DVD->MPEG) the resolution will be so poor as to not support a larger size frame?  If it can, what size should I select when I export?

  • How can I import a pdf file into numbers so it will open with a click

How can I import a pdf file into a spreadsheet so that it will open with a click?

You can link to a webpage or an email in Numbers-- that's it.
The best way I found to do this is to enable websharing on your machine (see this article if you are running 10.8: http://lowendmac.com/crews/12lc/web-sharing-mountain-lion.html)
You can then place your pdf files in the folder /Users/<your user name>/Sites/<somefolder>
Then link to this using the url  "<your machine name>.local/~<your user name>/<somefolder>/<pdf Name>
My machines name is "Proton" (you can get this from the System Preferences > Sharing pane)
    My user name is "wayne"
so I stored a pdf file (DM00027543.pdf) in the folder "/User/wayne/Sites/PDFTest"
and stored the URL "http://proton.local/~wayne/PDFTest/DM00027543.pdf" in the "URL" field of the Hyperlink inspector

  • Converting WinAmp (M3U) Playlists Into iTunes (XML) Playlists

Hi. I was wondering if someone could help me out with suggestions on converting my old WinAmp (.m3u) playlists into usable iTunes (.xml) playlists?
I have Windows XP Pro (with the latest Windows updates), and a brand new iPod 160 Gig Classic.
I have used WinAmp as my media player for the longest time. The reason that I haven't created playlists in iTunes is because:
It took me years to customize these Winamp playlists exactly how I want them (you know how that is).
iTunes is a huge program that tends to takes up too many system resources on my PC. I have an older PC, and don't have the time or money to invest in a new system, copy files, set it up, etc.
iTunes somehow modifies an mp3 whenever it is played in iTunes ( I can see that it has been modified in the "Date Modified" column, where my mp3 files are located).
Historically - up until the last year or so, iTunes has not had too much of a problem faithfully importing my Winamp playlists into iTunes (to be transferred onto my iPod).
So, I just got off the phone with Apple Technical Support, Tier 2.  I told him that I had the latest version of iTunes (version 10), installed yesterday.
I successfully imported my 90 Gigs of mp3's into the  iTunes "Music Library" without a problem.
The problem arose today when I tried to import one of my WinAmp (.m3u) playlists into iTunes, so that I could copy the playlist over onto my iPod. I've done this dozens of times. I've already tried uninstalling and then reinstalling iTunes.
Like I said, I really want to keep these playlists it took a long time to customize the occurrence and frequency of favorite mp3's into those playlists.
The technician said that the latest release of iTunes won't work with Winamp (m3u) playlists.  I asked him if he thought it would work again if I downloaded an older version of iTunes. He said that with the new iPod Classic that I have, it will not work with older versions of iTunes (I have no idea why), so that's out. He suggested Googling an "m3u to xml file converter."
I checked on Google and saw a lot of programs that will convert xml files to m3u file format (for reasons unknown to me), but I haven't had any luck online finding a file converter that will faithfully convert my WinAmp (.m3u) playlists TO iTunes (.xml) playlists to use instead, and make iTunes run smoother. Any suggestions?*
    * Keep in mind that I'd really prefer to convert my m3u playlists, rather than create all new iTunes playlists from scratch.
    Thanks.

Tried the plug-in with Apple Technical Support. This WinAmp plug-in unfortunately does absolutely nothing.
I went back an read some of the comments and it sounds like it only works with older versions of WinAmp.
    Try this http://www.topdownloads.net/software/m3u-to-xml-xspf-converter_2_39472.html
    or this python script http://users.musicbrainz.org/~matt/xspf/m3u2xspf
    or http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Audio-Convertors/M3UtoXSPF.shtml
Not sure this one will work since it is looking like the latest iTunes no longer supports m3u file sbut worth a try see http://www.burroak.on.ca/m3u2itunes.html

  • Importing multiple m3u playlists to iTunes

    Hi,
I just downloaded the new iTunes 7. I was hoping that now I can import multiple m3u playlists to iTunes. I have a big collection of mp3 and m3u files and the lack of a way to import the playlists makes iTunes pretty much unusable and the prospect of buying an iPod remote.
The Import dialog allows me to choose only one file. If I drag and drop more than one m3u files to iTunes, it just merges the playlists into one (this is a VERY stupid design if you ask me.)
I am dissapointed that it seems this is unchanged in the new version.
Please someone tell me that there's a way to do this.
      Windows XP

A playlist is simply a list of songs.
In order for iTunes to put a song on a playlist, it must be in the library.
I don't quite understand what you mean. But iTunes does put the songs in an imported m3u playlist in the library and create an iTunes playlist. The problem is that there is no way to import multiple m3u playlists at the same time while keeping the lists separeate. Right now, it merges the lists into one.

  • How do you import copyright controlled cds into Itunes?

    Hi
how do you import copyright controlled cds into Itunes?
When i put the cd into my computer, Itunes does not read it like a regular cd. It does not show up in my source list.
I just want to put the songs on the cd onto my ipod.
The cd will play in windows media player and i was able to save the cd as wma files onto my computer, and then i tried to import those files, but Itunes says the file is copyright controlled, and the only way for itunes to import it is with the orignal cd? The original cd was in my D drive the whole time, but it still will not let me import.
I also tried physically looking into the CD for the music files, but those aren't there. The cd is like an enhanced cd where if you look into the drive for files there are no files except for 2 icons. The actual icon the open the player to play the cd and a uninstall icon.
does anyone know how to do this? PLEASE HELP!

I have downloaded the latest version of Itunes. I don't think that is the problem. Music companies have started issuing "copyright controlled" cds now especially on import versions of cds. I have the original cd, but Itunes cannot import it due to the copyright because it is protected. I read the "help" file on the cd, and what it does is you can play it as much as you like, you can make a copy of the cd only 3 times. The copy of the CD is also copyright protected. I have tried Itunes, WMA, Sonicstage, Sonic and etc programs, but nothing has worked.
Hopefully, someone from APPLE will now what I mean about the copyright controlled CDs. I only want to be able to listen to the music on my IPOD. Nothing has worked

  • How do i copy an ipod playlist into itunes- the songs are already in my library

how do i copy an ipod playlist into itunes- the songs are already in my library

I found out an easy way....
With iPod connected to iTunes, right click on the iPod playlist you want to export, choose the Export option on the menu that appears.
iTunes will prompt for a location and format to save the file.  Save playlist as an XML file using whatever name and location you want (I saved as "songs.XML" to my desktop).
Then, in iTunes, go to File - Library - Import Playlist and selet the XML file.  The playlist will be created in the iTunes library and will contain any tracks that are refereced in the original playlist that already exists in the library.
There may be a mesage, "Some of the songs in the (filename).XML were not imported because they could not be fund".  This is because the songs you are importing have to already be in your iTunes library.
I just did this with my kid's iPod and it worked great.  I found this tip on Apple Support Communities (discussions.apple.com/thread/2577582?start=0&tstart=0).  It was posted by SpyglassSally and my original search question in Goole was was, "How do i copy a playlist from an iPod to iTunes".
Thanks for the responses and I hope this helps anyone else.

    Hello ryane84
The easiest and most efficient way to copy your music is to follow the steps under the External drive section. Make sure that you have organized the iTunes library first before you copy it over. Then put the copied iTunes folder in the same Music folder on your computer.

It does not look like this is possible with iTunes 11 (or 11.0.1).
