How can i import my home movies i had put on DVD?

Does anyone know how to import a dvd of home movies into imovie?

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

  • How can I import my home movies (.dv) into iTunes?

I'm getting frustrated with the lack of information about converting movies with all the recent upgrades. I have many short home movies in a variety of formats (.dv, .mov. Mp4, etc) - how in the world can I get them into iTunes (and ultimately on my iPad) so I can share them? It looks like Quicktime Pro is no more and Quicktime 10 is grayed out under all the share options? I'm at a loss - do I need to go back to the original iMovie files and save as something else??? Thanks much!
Everything I have is the most recent, most up-to-date version you can have. Quicktime, iTunes, OS, iOS, etc - it's ALL the most recent version. Running a iMac G5 and iPad2.

And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

How can I import an m4v movie from my desktop to my event Library in iMovie?  I want to include the m4v movie into another project in iMovie.

When you import DV Stream from tape, iMovie 11 will assume that you are importing raw footage from a camera, rather than a finished movie. It will create a new clip everytime it detects a scene break (the record start/stop button was pressed). These clips will be placed in chronolgical order - not the order they were on the tape.
One way around this is to import the tape into the application that you used to create it. For example, if you used iMovie 6, import the tape back into imovie 6. In iMovie 6, you can export the tape back out using FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME. Choose the DV codec in an MOV container.  You can then import this MOV file into iMovie 11 and have everything in the proper order for your finished movie.
Another option is to use FInal Cut Pro X.

  • How do I burn a home movie on my mac to dvd

How do I burn a home movie that I put in itunes to a dvd

You need burn software to do so. Do you have iLife 09 or 11 installed? If so, you have iDVD which is perfect. What app did you use to edit/put together the movie?
If you don't have iDVD, then take a look at Roxio Toast ($$) or Burn (free) or google for other apps.
FWIW, I've never parked a home made movie in iTunes, so I have no idea if there is anything you can do with it there. My guess is you need to get it into the burn software. And, if you still have an older version of iMovie, it may still have a burn option within.

  • Itunes 12 can't import shared home movie to iTunes library

HI. I am trying to import, or add to my desktop iTunes library, a shared home movie. I have file sharing turned on with both my laptop and desktop. I can see, from my desktop, the shared home movies, and I can even play them, but I cannot find an option to import them into the desktop library. I use my desktop to sync my iPad and ultimately I want to add the movies to my iPad. How do I import a shared home movie from my laptop to desktop, not just see it and play it from sharing?

Join the crowd. If you search this and other forums on the web, you'll find that Home Sharing has limited functionality on PC and Mixed PC-Mac networks. It works fine, Mac to Mac, it appears, but PC's seem unable to talk to Macs or one another on many, many, many people's home shared networks. I hope that Apple finds a way to improve this aspect of iTunes or at least expands its troubleshooting recommendations in the support database.

  • How can I import / capture a movie to iPod video format.

Hey. I was wondering how I can grab a captured video from my digital camera or digital stb and convert the file into an m4v file. I am currently using Nero Vision to capture then converting the file in QT7Pro but for a 30min clip, this may take me somewhere between 3-4hours to fully complete. Is there any easier way that I can make an iPod movie without wasting all of my time?

Converting video using the new H.264 codec does take a long time. A faster computer is the only way to "speed it up".
The iPod can also import MPEG-4 files (.mp4) and even those in .mov formats.
There are strict settings rules that must be followed or your file will not import to your iPod. These include the dimensions, frame and data rate and audio settings. Make sure you've got them correct by exporting a short (2 minute) sample file and test it on your iPod.
Once you know the settings work you need only leave them untouched and always use the "Most Recent" settings in the QuickTime export dialog.
I have all of my computers running 24 hours a day. I do large projects while I sleep.

  • How can i organise my home movie video clips in iMovie in chronological order

    Hello,
    Can anyone help please?
I have masses of home movies that were taken on VHS, transferred them onto DVDs, then loaded these and put them onto imovies.  Perfect so far!
But now stuck, as they have been imported in reverse order into the Event Library, and I'd like them to be show in chronological order with the earliest taken showing up first, so I can use them for other projects easily without a huge amount of working out what happened, when!
    Many thanks,

If you import from a digital camera or camcorder, iMovie will automatically store your events in date order.
However, if you imported clips from an analog camcorder, like VHS or 8MM or Hi8, iMovie does not have any metadata to work with.
In this case, there are two ways to add back this metadata.
The simplest way is to right click on your Event clip and select Adjust Clip Date And Time. Do this for all clips in the event.
The other way is to name your clips before importing to imovie in this format:
    clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext
where hh is hours in 24 hour time, and ext is the current file extension. If you name your clips this way, and then import to iMovie through FILE/IMPORT MOVIE then the clips will sort into the proper year.
Sometimes, when you import from a VHS tape ( or DVD of a VHS tape), you get one long clip for several events.
I have found I get good results by chopping up this clip into shorter clips corresponding to real world events (like birthday party, for example) so that the whole clip has the same date.
To do this I use a free app called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5.
I first will find the long clip in the Finder. From iMovie, right-click on the long clip and select Reveal in Finder)
Then drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip.
Move the playhead to the beginning of the first short clip you want to make, and click I for in point. Then move the playhead to the end of the first short clip you want to make, and press O for outpoint. (i and o do not have to be capitalized).  Then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME in Apple Intermediate Codec. Name it as I mentioned above. (clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext)
Then repeat for all additional shorter clips you need from that long clip.

  • How can I convert a home movie on dvd(vob file) to edit on imovie?

I had home movies converted to a dvd- the files are vob. Now I want to edit the movies in imovie.
I am having a difficult time converting from vob straight to mov files.
I purchased Quick Time Pro thinking that could do it, but I haven't been able to.
Also, it just says QuickTime Player Version 7.6.4 (518.35) on my computer.
Is it supposed to say QuickTIme Pro?
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

The "Pro" option just unlocks a lot of features in QuickTime Player. If you look at the registration info, it will show if you have Pro installed.
For converting DVD's you have two options; hardware or software.
The hardware option involves connecting a DVD player's analog outputs to a qualified "DV device" (DV camcorder, VTR or converter) then connecting the DV device's Firewire port to your Mac to capture the footage.
The software option involves using an application like DVDxDV or MPEG Streamclip to convert the DVD's VOB files into an editable format that works natively with your chosen NLE.

They have a website with support and a forum.  https://www.videocopilot.net/products/action2/
    Looks like cool stuff.
They list compatability with Premier Elements.  Perhaps if you post a request there, you will find someone that has been down the road before you with the combination of the two products.   They may also need to know if an adjustment is necessary for PrE11.
