How can I import video from HDR-CX500 to iMovie09?

I have a HDR-CX500 camcorder which is HD(1080i) and memory recording.
I connected HDR-CX500 using USB cable to my iMac.
I found that USB Mass Storage is detected on my Finder.
I can see the pictures(still cut, JPG).
However, iMovie does not response to my camcorder and I couldn't import MTS file in my camcorder.
I could see my camcorder is compatible to iMovie from http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3290#6
however, there is no action.
Do you have any answer?

Hi Hyon Lim,
If you have recorded any Standard Definition (MPEG-2) footage, this must be erased from the camera before iMovie '09 will recognise the High Definition (AVCHD) footage. See this Apple article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1793
While your camera is not mentioned specifically in the article, the Camcorder Support article you linked to does list your camera, together with a link to the article about erasing SD content.
As your post is an older one, you may have already resolved the issue, of course. Given that you've recently received a response (better late than never), I thought I would add my suggestion as well.

  • How can I import video from a VHS tape onto my mac and into imovie?

I am trying to take old family movies that are on VHS tapes and get them into imovie so i can edit them and burn DVDs

I recommend the EyeTV Hybrid from ElGato. It will do what you ask and also serve as a high-def TV Tuner and DVR.
More good options in this [MacWorld Article|http://www.macworld.com/article/143545/2009/10/vhscapturetools.html]
Another option is to buy a digital camcorder with a Pass-thru option.
A final option is a digital analog converter like those sold by Canopus. These are expensive.

  • Can you import video from a DVD?  If so how

Can you import video from a DVD? I have some home DVD's made on my PC. My PC program (Roxio) allowed me to pull clips off of a DVD, but I can not seem to figure out how to do it with iMovie on my Mac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi, I'll see if I can help. The only way I know of importing directly from iMovie off of a DVD is with a converter box hooked up to an external DVD player. However there are a few freeware programs you could try. One is Handbrake, with it you can convert your DVD into a MPEG-4 file, this is incredibly easy however the quality will be a little lower than that of a DVD. Another program is MactheRipper which will rip the entire DVD onto your hard drive but you will have to hunt through all the files to find the ones you want. I hope this helps.

How do I import video from Sony TRV22E into iMovie ?

    Hi
Sony TRV22E - CAN ONLY export the VIDEO material via a FireWire Cable (iLinc)
    Then Your Mac need eiter
    - a FireWire port - or -
    - a Thunderbolt port
if only Thunderbolt - Then You need a FireWire to Thunderbolt converter.
The USB- can only copy over the Still photos You also cam take with Your Camera. Will NEVER work for Video Export.

What model MacBook Pro do you have? On my late 2011, I used to use a Mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter to get video and audio from my Mac to my television. I used this adapter from Monoprice. Worked great - I just no longer use it because I bought a 27" monitor.
You can also use AirPlay mirroring if you've the right MBP and an Apple TV - but the wired method works, too.

  • How do I import video from my new Canon FX300?

How do I import video from my Canon FX300 into FCP?

It's probably got no connection with your problem but just to rule it out, trash your preferences  .  .  .  it'll only take a minute so you've nothing to lose.
Many weird things happen as a result of corrupt preferences which can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
    1. Ensure that only  FCP X  is selected.
    2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.
There is absolutely no danger in trashing preferences and you can do it as often as you like.
The preferences are kept separately from FCP X and if there aren't any when FCP X opens it automatically creates new ones  .  .  .  instantly.

How do I import video from a Sony DSC-HX100V Camera into iPhoto? . . . i can see all the photos but the videos are not visable (I also connected the SD card with a USB Sony SD Card Reader - again only the photos are accessible - no video files are shown) . . .

If you're shooting AVCHD then you'll need to upgrade to iPhoto 11v9.3 to import this material.
A note on AVCHD: This format was developed for people who are shooting to edit the material afterwards. If you're shooting to edit, then iMovie or Final Cut are the correct home for this material. If you're not shooting to edit consider using one of the other video formats on your Camera.

  • How can I import images from iphoto with the albums and folders?

How can I import images from iphoto without losing the albums and folders I already created?

In Organizer, you can choose File>get Photos and Videos>From iPhoto.
Importing from iPhoto'09: If in iPhoto, you organize your media using photo references, that is, the media actually does not reside inside iPhoto library package, and are referenced through original locations, Organizer does not create new copies of those media and just refer to the original location. but if your iPhoto media reside inside iPhoto library, Organizer creates a copy all media in your pictures folder, also imports albums and tags and other metadata.
Importing from iPhoto'011: In this case, Organizer always creates a copy of your photos in your pictures folder which resides inside iPohto package. It does not import the albums and other metadata like star rating, caption etc.
    Hope this information helps!
