How can I install a Brother DCP 165C printer that my mac is not finding?

I have just bought a DCP 165C second hand, so it doens't come with a CD for installing. I have however downloaded the driver for mac from the Brother website and installed it into my computer, and it said the installation was succesful. I then plug the printer to my computer, via USB, then I go to add my printer as I normally would and have; through preferences- but it's not showing up in Default. I have tried Advanced but I don't know what to put in the url because of course the printer doesn't have one, it's just there, connected via USB.
I have also resetted the printer system and now don't know what else to do.
I really need to print, please help!

It just doesn't want to work...
It is not recognising anything and if I go to add printer, no printers come up.
I'm waiting for a new USB cable to see if that is the problem
I'm sure this is maddening for you.
To be sure the printer works, can you print a report, e.g., User Settings, using the LCD Panel?
Your screenshot shows the window titled, Install BrotherTWAIN, which is the software for the scanner. The window for the printer software title should be, Install BrotherCLDrivers. If you have not already done so, download the CUPS Printer Driver. Then install and try to add it in Sys Pref > Print & Scan. If the problem persists, try the Brother troubleshooting steps for print issues with USB connections.
As for the "Failed to connect to the device" error, that used to happen often with my Brother MFC device for the scanner. Turning the unit off, waiting 30 seconds, and then turning the unit back on works. However, my unit is connected to my network and I scan using other software, i.e., not the Brother Control Center software.
I just noticed that the USB port is inside the DCP-165c printer. You might double check that the cover is not pinching cable anywhere along its path.
HTH and Good Luck!

  • How/Can I install WINDOWS 7 64BIT on a 1st Generation Mac Pro ?

Hi, Is it possible to install Windows 7 64 bit on a 1st Generation Mac Pro 2.66Ghz? Apple suggests that it's not possible and yet I've seen several Googled posts where the users have successfully installed 64 bit on a 1st Generation Mac Pro. The problem is that they've done this creating a bootable iso disk(whatever that is) using a Windows computer with imgburn and windows commands. I'm pretty good at following instructions but I haven't seen any instructions on how to install Windows 7 on this machine using a Mac based approach.
I'm using BootCamp and was able to partition the drive into NFTS and "proceed" with installation; however all te installations failed during setup and Windows would not boot; disk repair was not possible. Besides, from what I've gathered, 32 bit is problematic around memory issues.
When I try installing 64 bits, I never get past the "select cd rom 1or 2" message where the keyboard won't work. It is at this point where others say they have successfully proceeded with moving forward by creating a bootable iso disk.
Problem is it's all Windows based with exe files and presupposes I already have Windows running.
I'm not sure I really understand how to create an iso disk, but I do have ROXIO TOAST 10 which is capable of burning "ISO" disks.Does anyone know how to do this and/or can you point me to a place where there are instructions on how to proceed?? While I realize Apple says that some mid 2006 mac pros aren't supported, there are multiple posts of windows users successfully installing Windows 7 on a 1st Generation Mac Pro.
    Thanks.

I have a March 2009 Mac Pro dual quad core running Win7 Pro 64 bit. I have Windows installed on a dedicated internal hard drive. There are no partitions, the entire drive is for Windows use.
Here's how I installed it, I did not start with BootCamp. Make sure the drive you're going to use for Windows doesn't have any important files on it because it will be formatted.
    1. Update Snow Leopard
    2. Place the Windows cd in the Super Drive
    3. Shut down the computer
    4. Remove all the hard drives except the one you want Windows installed on. Keep track of the order they are in and at the end replace them in the same order.
    5. Boot the computer holding down the Option key
    6. Boot to the Windows cd
    7. Install Windows and format the drive to NTFS
    8. When Windows needs to restart during installation you'll need to hold the Option key and boot to Windows, not the Windows cd.
    9. After Windows installs, place your Snow Leopard disc in the Super Drive
    10. The Drivers for Windows will be installed along with a Windows version of BootCamp.
    11. Go to Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update
    12. Update again until it's done.
    13. You'll also find a BootCamp under Control Panel, check it out.
    14. Shut down the computer and replace the hard drives in their original order
    14. Now if you turn on the computer it will boot to Snow Leopard, but if you hold the Option key during boot you can select Windows or Mac.

  • How can you install FCS 3 on a computer that already has FCPX?

Ok so, I wiped my computer to install Lion, and then installed FCP X. I now want to install Final Cut Studio 3, but it won't let me install Final Cut, Motion, or Compressor (the other apps install fine). Presumably this is because I have downloaded the new versions of those respective apps from the app store.
I know you can install FCP X on a computer with FCS3 on it (and still be able to use both versions of FCP) but can you do the opposite? If so I haven't found out how (short of installing on a different disk/partition of course). I tried moving FCPX out of the applications folder (in hopes that it was as simple as the installer checks the apps folder first for another copy of Final Cut) but that simply moved an alias and as far as I can tell, FCPX cannot be moved out of the applications folder.
Anyone have any ideas or experienced something similar?
    Thanks!

Hey Brad thanks, but the link you provided is the opposite of what I need. That link is for if you want to install FCPX on a system with FCS 3 already on it. I have FCP X already installed and need to install FCS 3 on the same drive.
I cannot move the FCPX, Motion 5, or Compressor 4 applications to a new folder, because when I do it only moves an alias over for some reason (not the actual application).
@Ronnie yes I know I can install another copy of OSX on another drive/partition and install FCS 3 on that, but I am trying to not have to do that. Clearly FCPX and FCS 3 can exist on the same partition if you install FCS 3 first, so why can't I do it if I already have FCPX installed? Seems silly. I also do not want to have to reboot each time I want to go into FCS3, not to mention all of the disk space I would lose by installing the OS on one of my other internal drive (which currently are all filled with Media drives, so I would have to repartition a sizable chunk of one of them just for FC Studio).

  • How can I install an OLDER version of iTunes-- on a Mac?

I upgraded to iTunes 9.1--- and now it won't connect to the iTunes store. How can I go BACK to an older version. This is terrible--- and Apple is NOT HELPING!
It seems to be a common problem.
    Help!

to downgrade to a previous iTunes version, you could try this user tip that seemed to have worked for some:
    +1) Quit iTunes.+
+2) Delete iTunes from your Applications folder.+
+3) Go to your ~/Music/iTunes folder. Delete or rename the "iTunes Library" file.+
+4) Open the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and look for the backup of your old pre-9 library; it should be dated at about the time you first ran iTunes 9. Copy it back out to the ~/Music/iTunes folder, and rename it to "iTunes Library".+
+6) click here to download iTunes 8.2.1. The page says it's for G3, but the Read Me file says it'll run on G4, G5, and Intel too. Open the disk image and run the installer.+
+You should now be able to run iTunes 8.2.1 again.+
+And your iTunes will restore to before you upgraded and you won't lose anything+.

  • How can I install windows 7 using boot camp, if the partition will not format correctly?

    Hi All,
I'm new to this forum and have had a chance to look around a little bit, but haven't really found an answer to the problem that I'm having.
I have an imac and I'm attempting to use boot camp.  I have used it in the past, with prior versions of mac os x, but this is the first time that I have tried it with 10.6.8.  The first thing I found out is that I can't use Windows XP, even with service pack 2 installed, because it doesn't find the "boot camp" partition.  So, I recently obtained a full retail copy of Windows 7 and have been trying to install it.  I have no problem with the boot camp assistant creating the new partition, 200 GB.  However, when I insert the Windows 7 DVD and the computer restarts in the Win 7 install screen it tells me that I cannot install Windows on the selected partition (which I expected to see.)  So I choose "format" the further format the partition.  It doesn't ask me how I would like to partition this, but just seems to start.  All seems to go fine until it finishes and i see the same message of "Windows cannot be installed in the selected partition."  I can click on the format tab endlessly but it still doesn't seem to work.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I've called Apple and their technicians keep telling me that I need to reinstall the Mac OS again, which I've tried.  It doesn't seem to help either.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    DTK

Yes, I choose "Format" under the advanced options screen.  It seems like it formats, but then I get the same message of "Windows cannot be installed to this disk.  The selected disk is of the GPT partition style."  I can continue to click "format" but i keep getting the same error.
There is the answer, right in front of us ....
Delete the bootcamp partition and start again the correct partition type is GUID but BootCamp should take care of that automatically so try again.

  • How can I install window 8 on external hard drive on mac mini

So, I have mac mini and I'd like to install win8 on external hard drive and can anyone give me guides to do it?
also I wonder would I be able to run win 8 after installation using parallels desktop?
    thanks in advance

I have to agree that Windows8 is a waste of time, especially if you don't have a touch screen and compatible apps.
However, the latest version of Parallels supports running Windows8, Parallels can either run Windows from a 'virtual disk' file which can be stored wherever you want including on an external drive, or it can also be configured to run Windows from a Boot Camp partition created using Apple's Boot Camp Utility.
    See http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v7/update2/docs/en/Parallels%20Desktop%20U ser's%20Guide/32733.htm
In order to run Boot Camp from an external drive and therefore be able to setup the Boot Camp partition on the external drive you first have to install and run OS X on the external drive. Then the Boot Camp utility will let you add the Boot Camp partition on the external drive. You cannot run OS X and the Boot Camp utility from an internal drive and try adding the Boot Camp partition to the external drive. The Boot Camp Utility only lets you add the partition on the same physical drive it is running from.
Personally I have legal XP and Windows7 licenses (currently using Windows7) and even if the Windows8 upgrade was totally free of charge I would not bother with it. I would also not bother with it at work as an IT Manager.

  • How can I install my Officejet 100 Mobile Printer Driver on my Motorola Photon 4G Cell Phone?

The Photon is an Android phone and does not run on widows or mac operating system. HP instructions are as follows:
NOTE:The print application software must be installed on your phone before you can print to the HP product. See the phone manufacturer's Web site for downloading and installing the print application software.
I can't find any instructions for installing this software on the Motorola website. Any help would be appreciated.

There are third party apps to do this but HP does not have one themselves, and cannot support third party apps. There is a free app called "bluetooth smart printing", it is limited in what files it supports, and reviews dont seem to e that great, but it will print via bluetooth. There are probably better apps out there that are paid if you do some looking.

I have CS-3 on a disc, was using Mac Leopard.    Just bought a new Mac Mini with Mountain Lion and when trying to install from the disc, it did not install but put a message "contact Adobe".    The "chat" agent says he only deals with CS-6 and CC, suggested I try asking here.

  • How can I install Win XP instead of Win 7 on mac?

I bought a MacBook Pro 2.3GHz dual-core Intel i5 (Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard) and found out the Boot Camp requires windows 7.
I don't have windows 7 but windows XP (SP3). I have already finished the partition by bootcamp and succeed in windows XP installation, but when I put the Mac OS X install DVD to finish the installation, it showed the sentence that windows 7 is required.
Is there any way that I don't need to buy a win 7?  Thanks

Apple has abandoned BootCamp support for XP and Vista with their 2011-released models.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4410
It might be possible to get the basic drivers from the various hardware manufacturers (like Intel, ATI/AMD, Broadcom, Realtek, etc.) but any Apple-specifc hardware component won't work.
You might be better of getting/using Windows 7
