How can I install a Word PC template on my Mac?

I work from home, editing manuscrips on my Mac Mini. A client sent me a manuscript in an earlier version of Word for the PC.  I have Office 2011 with Word for the Mac. I was able to open the file with no problem, and saved it as a .doc file. The manuscript was embedded in a template, but the headers for it are grayed out. The client sent me the template separately. I was able to open it and convert it to .doc format. The macros in the template came up with no problem. The client tried to tell me how to install it. After numerous tries,  I installed it manually as a global add-in, Using Tools>Templates and Add-Ins, and putting the template document in the Global Add-ins box. It came up as a .dot file and I clicked on it to make it active. But when I click OK,  I get an error message telling me the file does not exist.
Arrrgh!
Now I've got numerous copies of the same file in the My Templates folder. I'd like to get rid of them, and start from scratch, but don't know how.
Then I'd like to get this template running on the document the client sent so I can make some money!
Help!

Hi, Kurt,
I thought you'd like to know that I successfully installed the templates on my PC with help from the client.
Then I used almost the same process to successfully install them on my Mac.
I found that I needed to not convert the files or open them beforehand, so I made a new folder on the desktop, named it, and copied the original files into it, preserving their .dot extensions.
I opened the Finder and dragged the folder into the Documents section. Then I opened the template file I needed and inserted the native manuscript file into it by clicking File, New, New from Templates. Then I chose the native ms. from the Recent Documents section, not the Templates section. I Saved it As a Word file using another name, and it came up with a docx extension.
Lesson: Never save a third-party template in the Mac's Templates section.
It worked! Just to test it, I sent the Mac file to the client, who was able to open it on his PC.

    You can't.

    Time to update the software!

  • How can I install list from English template in German SharePoint?

I have a list, that was customized with InfoPath. I exported it as template and wanted to create list from this template in another server.
The original list was created in SharePoint with English language. Now, the target server is in German language. My English list templates are not available in "Apps you can add".
How can I create the list in German server? InfoPath won't deploy list to another URL, and recreating list in InfoPath would be possible but mean enormous amount of work.

On which OOTB list is based your customized List you customized?
    Some more hints:
    1. Make sure that your target site is based on same site template as the site on which you created your template
    2. In some cases "Team Collaboration Lists" feature has to be enabled on target site, check if it is enabled.
    3. Compare other Site Collection and Site features on both Source and Target sites.

  • How can I install OSX lion on my completely wiped mac mini?

I have a 2011 mac mini server edition (Without CD drive), and tried to partition it to a RAID0 last night. I reformatted both drives (Just the inner partitions, so It shouldn't have affected the recovery partition), and now it will not boot.
When I turn the computer on, it flashes a question mark folder, and when I boot with option, it gives me a list of wireless networks on a grey screen. When I select my network, it logs into it, but doesn't do anything further. It will not let me boot into the recovery partition at all.
How can I re-install lion on this computer? I do have a firewire cable, so I could do target disc mode if that's even possible.
    Thanks!

That just isn't practical for me, to be booting off an external.
Would a flash drive work, or something to that effect?
nope, you need a external drive 1TB in size to hold all the data from the 2-500GB's and double as a backup when the RAID 0 fails which they are twice as likely to do.
you can only install OS X on a Mac, so once it's there you clone it to the 1TB, option boot from it, create the RAID and reverse clone.
no  Lion Recovery, that's why you need another way to get Lion back, that's why you got to make the Lion Recovery USB first before doing anything.

  • How can I install Windows7 -64BIT on a 1st Generation Mac Pro 2.66GHZ Quad?

    Hi,
I posted this in Bootcamp but haven't received any replies so I am reposting it here where perhaps it really belongs. Is it possible to install Windows 7 64 bit on a 1st Generation Mac Pro 2.66Ghz?
Apple suggests that it's not possible and yet I've seen several Googled posts where the users have successfully installed 64 bit on a 1st Generation Mac Pro. The problem is that they've done this creating a bootable iso disk(whatever that is) using a Windows computer with imgburn and windows commands. I'm pretty good at following instructions but I haven't seen any instructions on how to install Windows 7 on this machine using a Mac based approach.
I'm using BootCamp and was able to partition the drive into NFTS and "proceed" with installation; however all the installations failed during setup and Windows would not boot; disk repair was not possible. Besides, from what I've gathered, 32 bit is problematic around memory issues.
When I try installing 64 bits, I never get past the "select cd rom 1 or 2" message where the keyboard won't work. It is at this point where others say they have successfully proceeded with moving forward by creating a bootable iso disk.
Problem is it's all Windows based with exe files and presupposes I already have Windows running.
I'm not sure I really understand how to create an iso disk, but I do have ROXIO TOAST 10 which is capable of burning "ISO" disks.Does anyone know how to do this and/or can you point me to a place where there are instructions on how to proceed?? While I realize Apple says that some mid 2006 mac pros aren't supported, there are multiple posts of windows 7 users successfully installing Windows 7 on a 1st Generation Mac Pro.
    Thanks.
    Mac Pro 2.66GHZ Quad Core

I have a March 2009 Mac Pro dual quad core running Win7 Pro 64 bit. I have Windows installed on a dedicated internal hard drive. There are no partitions, the entire drive is for Windows use.
Here's how I installed it, I did not start with BootCamp. Make sure the drive you're going to use for Windows doesn't have any important files on it because it will be formatted.
    1. Update Snow Leopard
    2. Place the Windows cd in the Super Drive
    3. Shut down the computer
    4. Remove all the hard drives except the one you want Windows installed on. Keep track of the order they are in and at the end replace them in the same order.
    5. Boot the computer holding down the Option key
    6. Boot to the Windows cd
    7. Install Windows and format the drive to NTFS
    8. When Windows needs to restart during installation you'll need to hold the Option key and boot to Windows, not the Windows cd.
    9. After Windows installs, place your Snow Leopard disc in the Super Drive
    10. The Drivers for Windows will be installed along with a Windows version of BootCamp.
    11. Go to Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update
    12. Update again until it's done.
    13. You'll also find a BootCamp under Control Panel, check it out.
    14. Shut down the computer and replace the hard drives in their original order
    14. Now if you turn on the computer it will boot to Snow Leopard, but if you hold the Option key during boot you can select Windows or Mac.

I do not understand your problem. You can erase the whole Mac as I said n my first reply.
If you only want to delete the documents, move them to the Trash and securely delete the Trash. See:

  • How can I install drivers for bootcamp without using the mac install dvd?

I installed windows 7 in bootcamp on my mac. I put the drivers on a FAT format usb stick so they should be installed while the windows installation was running. The most things are working on windows like the i-sight-camera. The problem is that the microphone doesn´t work so I look for a solution for 3 days, no result. Normally, you use the mac install dvd to install the necessary drivers but windows doesn´t want to read the dvd. And yes, you can download the drivers on the apple platform, but that doesn´t help me at all.
Thanks in advance. (sorry for the language)

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You didn't install Boot Camp drivers. It looks like you downloaded these drivers > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173
Those drivers are only for the graphic card and Bluetooth, not anything else, so you have to download the Boot Camp drivers on OS X and install them in Windows

  • How can i install again the audio card of my mac,

it doesn't work I don't know why... yesterday it was perfectly fine

You can not install iOS 5. It is no longer signed by Apple. You can only install the current version of iOS. For a 3GS, that's 6.1.3.
However... if you have 4.2.1 on your phone, odds are it is not a 3GS, it is a 3G. If that's the case, you've reached the end of the road for that. It can not run anything higher than 4.2.1.

  • How can i install adobe flash player on my i mac OSX lion

I just bought an I mac that runs on OSX 10.7.2 lion and cannot install Adobe flash player 10,0. I need it for looking to Youtube videos
    Can anybody help me?
    Charles

The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFl ash
You can check here what version of Flash player you actually have installed:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Version 11.0.1.152 onwards is for Lion.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

  • HT5717 how can I install Java Missing plug-in for my mac desk os x

    please someone help me

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you haven't installed Java yet, download and install it >http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572 Keep Safari closed during installation and restart your computer when finished. It's not necessary, but it's to make sure that Java installation went properly.
Then, go to a Java site and see if you can watch Java content. It's important to keep it updated, and disable it when you aren't using it. You can do it in Safari menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > Security
