How can I install Tiger 10.4.11 over Panther 10.3.9

How can I install Tiger 10.4.11 over Panther 10.3.9 ? I tried using a 10.4.2 install disc that I was going to update to 10.4.11, but got message that this would not work on this computer.
Thanks

  • How can I install Tiger on external drive

I have a maxtor external drive and I am trying to install tiger onto it but it is not installing properly. I have a imac g5 and I have the drive connected to it. It allows me to perform the install but then when I use it as the boot disk it goes through all the process and it goes to unix with panic...something about hanging here.
    Thanks
    imac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi Harrison,
is this a firewire drive? Be aware that you cannot boot from a USB drive: Don't start up from an external USB device.
Also make sure your drive's firmware is up to date.

  • Power Book Gr 10.2.8, have bought Tiger, how can I install Tiger?

Having read many other topics I am checking in for clarity
To download Tiger successfully (I have enough space etc etc)
I must first install 10.3. - How do I do that?
Then I must install the next in line etc etc???
    Please shed some light!!!

    georgie:
It will be helpful if I had a bit more information about your computer system, so I will ask questions.
You have a PowerBook G4, is that correct?
Which PB G4 do you have? Processor speed?
You have sufficient HD space. What is the total capacity of your HDD and how much available space do you have?
You have enough RAM. How much?
You have bought Tiger install disk. Is it the full Retail Version for a Power PC mac?
Here are the minimum system requirements for Tiger. I suggest a bit more RAM than the minimum.
I must first install 10.3. - How do I do that?
No, you don't need to install Panther (10.3x) if you have a Full Retail Version of Tiger. The only time you will need Panther on your HDD to install is if you have an update disk. However, Computer specific or upgrade versions should be avoided since they are optimized for the computer to which they are specific and will therefore, very likely, cause problems during or after installation. On the legal side, it may be a violation of the Software License Agreement which statesThis License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single computer at a time. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time...
Please post back with information requested, then we can proceed with directions for installation.

  • How can I install Tiger upgrade on Power Mac G5?

I have PowerMac G5 with OSX 3.9. I bought retail disk of Tiger but it will not install as upgrade. It goes past the restart process but stops shortly after installation begins with message telling me that installation failed. I originally bought Leopard and encountered same problem and then bought Tiger thinking that I might need to upgrade to that first. Here are the specs for my computer:

    CPU Type: PowerPC 970 (2.2)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.6 GHz

    Thanks much!

    Hi Mobe!
Is the disc the Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, that does not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on it?
If not, you can order the correct Tiger 10.4.x installer from Apple Phone Sales 1-800-692-7753, for $129.00.
That model of PowerMac G5 should also support the Leopard System Requirements, if you use a Full Retail Version of the Leopard DVD.
The Full Retail Version, of the Leopard Install DVD, can be purchased at The Apple Store (U.S.).

  • How can I install 10.5.2 9C2028 over 10.5.2 9C31?

So, my load set is based on 10.5.2 9C31 (the 10.5.2 GM)
I got a new MacBook Pro that ships with 10.5.2 9C2028 -- a later build.
10.4.x -- when this happened -- would allow me to install the 10.4.x load set on a system, then use the "later build" 10.4.x DVD to upgrade the OS.
10.5.2 9C2028 -- the installer DVD -- is saying that 10.5.2 9C31 is a "later version" and won't let me do an upgrade.
I find if I purge the entire "a.receiptdb" file from /library/receipts/db, then this check goes away and I can install over top of 9C31, but upon the restart after install, it's stuck at the spinning grey wheel.
a "safe boot" brings up the normal Leopard "create an account", etc. screens -- which it shouldn't necessarily do.
Anybody have any other suggestions for a way to "overwrite" 10.5.2 9C31 with the new 10.5.2 9C2028? I'm not looking to do an "archive and install" with this as my load set has a ton of apps that would have to be reinstalled and a number of changes to the system OS which I'd have to do...
    Thanks!
    - Steve

The issue you're coming across is that 10.5 was forked after 10.5.1 and before 10.5.2. The build you have is specific to the new hardware, and there will not be a "merged" build that will work on all Apple hardware that is shipping "today" prior to 10.5.3. So if you want to try this, you're going to be reinventing some part of the wheel.
I will reiterate here that if you're looking to create an image that will deploy on all systems today, you are pursuing the wrong approach. You will encounter issues every time Apple releases now hardware. It's best to go with something that starts with Apple's base image and applies packages to customize it with your specific settings and applications, rather than trying to "nuke and pave" the thing from the ground up. But hey, I've only been working with people who are imaging systems for corporate IT deployment for 5 years. What do I know.

  • How can I get Tiger to install (boot) on 2007 Intel Mini ?

    {continued from deleted thread]
Just bought brand new MB138LLA (labeled mid-2007) last week ('full warranty", (allegedly) "dual bootable")
Was purchased solely to be able to dual boot - either in Tiger or Leopard
Supposedly this model is capable of booting in 10.4.10 - IF had (received) the correct install disk.
Came with 2 install disks for 10.5.4 (2008)
    w/ 10.5.4 pre-installed (updated online to 10.5.7 as of 8/3/09)
    Disk 1 is labeled
    AHT version 3A152
    Disk version 1.1
    27691-6304-A
    Disk 2 labeled
    disk version 1.0
    2Z691-6249-A
Neither will launch/load from C-Boot, but does appear after 'normal' boot
I do not see any copy/memtion of Tiger (10.4.10) in the optional installation folder
How can I install Tiger on this 2007-model machine?
Is there a ANY version of Tiger (10.4.10 I'm told) that I can get to install on this machine
    (then update online later)
    per
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411updateintel.html
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html

Just talked with Apple Support - AGAIN
Finally got some one who understood that this particular model WAS supposed to ship with 10.4.10 (as I had determined PRIOR to the selection/purchase). Not only are they sending a CPU (serial number) specific install set for 10.4.10 but volutarially included expedited shipping at no charge (I didn't ask, suppose their way of an apology for the past week of nightmares and BOGUS information). Now that's the Apple "Support" I recall from decades past.
SO, YES, I can (and will) boot from Tiger on this CPU - and can do so either from an Internal drive partition or from GTP format Firewire RAID array.
All those claiming that such a feat is an impossibly have not researched the specifics of this model thoroughly.
Problem solved (in theory, waiting on disks)

Can you install tiger on a power mac g4 with out a DVD drive if so how, I do have have a 2011 iMac can I use that in target disk mode with a FireWire cable any help would be appreciated

    Hello,
You need to put the Tiger Install Disc in the 2011 iMac, boot the 2011 uMac into Target mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Boot the G4 holding the Option or alt key, hopefully the Install Disc in the 2011 iMac will show as a boot choice.
We just want to use the 2011 iMac as a big expensive FW Optical drive, it cannot be installed osing the 2011 iMac itself.

When you installed Snow Leopard, Tiger was replaced, leaving your programs and files intact.
What is causing your freezing problem is unknown, you can take Kappy's advice and remove everything, but you lose your files and free iLife programs that came with Tiger/new machine.
The 10.6.3 disk you "upgraded" with has the full 10.6.3 on it, but no free iLife suit, so a erase and install will remove what you already have installed.
You can try to locate your problem without the erase and install method by running through this list of fixes.
Step by Step to fix your Mac
But before you do anything, backup your personal data off the machine to a extenal drive and disconnect.
    Most commonly used backup methods
Because if you have to follow Kappy's advice and wipe and install 10.6 fresh, it will cure your problem in nearly 99% of cases, but you have to rebuild everything. All programs and files.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
If this is all too much for you, then STOP and call a local PC/Mac service or competant friend to assist you.
Yuo might need to install more RAM into the machine to make 10.6 run better as well.

  • How can i install mozilla firefox on my iBook G4

How can i install mozilla firefox on my iBook G4

The mozilla-derived Firefox-based browser known as Tenfourfox does a fair job and is about due for code upgrade near the end of  this year from version 17 to version 24. Tenfourfox can run in Tiger 10.4.11 + Leopard 10.5.8.
    http://www.tenfourfox.com/
I have & use both Tenfourfox + SeamonkeyPPC versions in my PPC G4 Macs. (My third choice is iCab...)
These both play well together and can be run simultaneosly without odd effects, unlike what can happen if you were to run the original Firefox and then launch Tenfourfox; as those share resources. I use SeaMonkey PPC for my web mail login via google Notifier, and have that set as the default browser through use of Safari's preference settings. Even though my first browser choice is Tenfourfox.
You can choose to 'enable plugins' of stuff that by default is turned off in tenfourfox, for security reasons, such as an older no-longer supported version of adobe's Flash. However, video such as youtube content will often automatically work OK from most sites via Tenfourfox now.
    {There's also a seamonkey 'modern version' for intel-based macs w/ later OS X, not at the seamonkeyPPC site...}
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How do I install Tiger on a Mini

I have a 2009 Mac Mini which came with Leopard, I have upgraded to Snow Leopard and am very unhappy with this OS. Can and if so how do I install Tiger?
I have tried inserting the Tiger install disc and everything freezes up!

Phooey! I was afraid of that.
I'm afraid my wife and I are getting old and set in our ways. The loss of the "Home" folder in he Dock, the new appearance of Safari and Google, and many of the "new" features expanded our learning curve beyond it's limits. My wife is legally blind and uses a 37" display with magnification and voice-over. Navigating a new screen has been very difficult. Besides, I can not find a feature in Leopard or Snow Leopard that makes a change worthwhile.
I may have to dig out her eMac!

  • How do I install Tiger on an external HD?

Can I install Tiger on an external HD connected via FW from the laptop to which it's connected? It seems like the installation disk wants to restart the laptop and only install it there.
How do I do a fresh install of OSX on this external HD?

    It shouldn't be a problem.
First, run Disk Utility, make sure the FW Drive is formatted HFS+.
Let the Install disk reboot, once running off the Installer, you'll come to a spot to choose the disk to install to.

My Powerbook had some problems recently, the HDD and the Superdrive where gone. I replaced the HD but can not get Tiger installed here because the DVD drive isn't working. I boot right now from a FW HD. Any Ideas how to install the OS on the internal drive?

I just tried it between a Power Mac G5 and a PowerBook G3 (Pismo) and it worked. The G5 was Mac in Firewire Target Disk Mode. I started the G5 with the T with no DVD in the drive. I started up the G3, and the G5's hard drive appeared on the G3's desktop. I pushed the eject key (on the G5 keyboard) and the SuperDrive opened. I put in a DVD (the Tiger installation disk) and closed the SuperDrive. The DVD appeared on the G3's desktop. I restarted the G3 with the Option key held down, and the DVD in the G5 appeared as a valid startup choice."

  • How do I install Tiger with a smaller footprint??

I seem to run into a problem with re-installing Tiger on my Mac Mini Core Duo 1.66 with a 60GB drive. It says I only have 39.7GB free so how can I install with a smaller footprint without all of the applications that I don't need??

Hi Dougled, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
With over 50% free, space is not the cause of your problem. You can safely delete, do a custom install without, unneeded printers and foreign languages. Don't mess with Fonts unless you are sure of yourself.
A forum search on "install 10.4." will give you lots of suggestions.
    Good Luck, JP

  • How can I install Adobe Photoshop Elements Update 9.0.3 after I get a message that Installation has failed and the solution is not in troubleshooting or forums?

My Photoshop Elements 9 stopped working a couple of weeks ago. When I clicked the PSE button nothing happened. I tried this several times over a few days and it still failed. I uninstalled the program and re-installed it. It worked well. Then I tried to install the Update 9.0.3. The download was almost successful. When it was about to show 100% successful for the download, an error message said the installation had failed and that I should try later. I tried this many times over a few days and the same result occurred. I tried troubleshooting and the answers to questions, but I could not find an answer. I don't know where to go to see if anybody has answered my question. How can I install Update 9.0.3?
