How can I keep Firefox from saving my my last visited websites, even after I log out and Force Quit?

I quit and Force Quit Firefox when I log out of my MacBook Pro. Lately when I re-start Firefox, it has saved my last few visited websites and asks me if I'd like to restore these, or quit. How can I get Firefox to stop saving these sites and really quit?

hello, this is currently a problem in firefox when you first close all open firefox windows and then close the application afterwards - the bug should be addressed in a later version of firefox.
as a workaround in the meanwhile you could close firefox (through firefox > quit) while the browser window is still running or try this: enter about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash. double-click it and change its value to false.

• How do I keep Firefox from saving bank account data?

How do I keep Firefox from saving bank account data? I'm running Win7 64-bit. I can't seem to keep Firefox from saving bank account data.

Also, could you clarify what you mean by "saving bank account data"? Here are some places that Firefox may save data you have viewed:
Firefox's cache: Generally speaking, Firefox will cache pages you have viewed so you can go Back to them unless the server instructs Firefox not to store them, or designs the page to reload and check to make sure you are still logged in.
Session history: Firefox saves information about your session for purposes of redisplaying your open windows and tabs (and recently closed windows and tabs) in the event of a crash. If you want to restrict what Firefox saves, there might be some settings you can modify, but it depends on your concerns.
Form autofill: If you have the form fill feature enabled, Firefox will remember data you enter into forms (usually excluding passwords). This can be turned off, or completely cleared, but there isn't a convenient way to remove just some of the data without an add-on. For example: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/form-history-control/

• How can I stop Firefox from going to an https url automatically even when I type in http?

The browser is loading https websites even when I type in http. Asking for security certificates, etc. My home page is listed as http:// ....but when Firefox opens it, it is https://
I have changed the autobar fill in abbout:config, but it has had no effect.
The only solution I've seen on the Internet so far is to switch to Chrome, something I'd prefer not to do.
Running the latest Firefox 30
Thanks.

Your homepage is http://news.google.com/ per your system details.
Google has recently started switching everything over to HTTPS, so you may want to check Google help about that.

• How can I keep Firefox from keeping my login name and password from being in the dialog boxes when I sign on on gmail? It allows anyone to log into my email account

When signing on to my gmail account the two dialog boxes, one for account name and the other for the password are already filled in. The password box has dots for the password but anyone who clicks on the sign in box can read my mail. How do I change this? It appears to be a Firefox related issue because it doesn't happen if I sign in on Safari or Internet Explorer. I would appreciate your help.

See Remembering passwords, you can turn this feature off.
You also can view or delete the saved passwords.
Please let us know whether that works for you.

• If I have a pinned homepage; How can I keep Firefox from opening a second tab. None of the answers on this site help at all

I have a local html file on my system that I use as a homepage in Firefox. This homepage has a list of links that I regularly use. I have this file homepage pinned in Firefox. Every time I open Firefox not only do I get my pinned homepage, I get another tab with the firefox homepage opened and focused on.
All I want to load when I open Firefox is my chosen homepage. That is it. How do I stop this second tab from opening?
None of the older questions and answers on this site seem to work. Why is this so hard. It works in Google Chrome out of the box but I'm migrating away from Chrome because Google decided to break my extensions without my permission by not allowing third party extensions to be loaded, only ones listed in their store.

I do not see why it should not work for you. I have just tried doing that and it works for me.
First of all double check what is shown on your list of home pages. Firefox may be set to open more than one home page, each one as a separate tab. The listing separates the tabs with a pipe symbol | (Often the key above the Ctrl key)
* See How to set the home page
Another possibility is that you have set Firefox to restart with the tabs from the previous setting.

• How can I keep Firefox from changing the language for the spelling checker?

I'm using Firefox 20.0 on Fedora 17 (Xfce) fully updated. At random intervals Firefox will either set the language to some random version of English (Zambia, much of the time) until I notice and set it back or it will simply uncheck US English without selecting anything else. It also turns the spelling checker off once in a while. It's hard to say just what, if anything, triggers this because I only close Firefox for updates, and only reboot for kernel updates. Most of the time, my computer runs 24/7 and Firefox stays open sometimes, for over a month without any other issues. I found two old, closed threads on this, but neither of them had anything applicable.

There's an issue with this because Firefox looks at the page you're visiting and decides on the dictionary based on the language code. At least according to this bug.
I'm still looking to see if there's anything that can be done to stand on the programs neck until it cries uncle and uses EN-GB regardless. But I'm not holding my breath.

It's not a good idea to allow websites to redirect to another site until you know for sure the original site is trustworthy.
But if you still want to do it (again not a good idea).
Tools>Options>Advanced>General - In Accessibility, uncheck "warn me when web sites try to redirect..." option.

• How do I get Firefox from "saving" to Downloads EVERY PDF file I open ??

Greetings,
New to Firefox. Running Mac Leopard and needed Firefox because a business website running a business replay podcast did not recognize Safari.
So far so good. I actually prefer Firefox to Safari now.
One little thing. Every time I browse the web and open a PDF file it "automatically" sends it to my download file and I therefore have the file "saved" . WELL, I don't necessarily want to save to my download file every PDF file that I open. I just want to open a PDF file, do a quick read and move on to more browsing. How do I stop Firefox from saving to my downloads every PDF file that I open? Is there some kind of setting I can adjust?
Thanks.

You da man...I've never done an "Ad-On". I downloaded the recommended "Ad-On" as you suggested. The program fixed my issue...NOW, I can simply open a PDF file without it automatically going to my downloads.
THANKS
If you ever need to download a list of things, firefox can select a vertical column using the Cmd key, unlike Safari.
I have DownLoadThemAll installed and I can select a vertical group of files, right-click them and using DLTA, I can DL them to any location. With Safari, I would have to do this one-at-a-time.
Just another reason I like FF for many purposes.

How can I keep lion from generating .DS_Store files on windows network partitions, but not disable it for all network partitions?  I am fimilar with changing the setting for all network partitions(defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores true), but that is undesirable when I connect my laptop to my home network. A preferable solution would be where I could control the writing of these files based on disk format (NTFS vs HFS+).

Go to MacUpdate or CNET Downloads and search for ds_store. There are numerous utilities for preventing them from being transferred to Windows systems.
