Every time I restart my computer, Firefox makes me "re-activeate" or "re-enable" my add-on's . This is a major pain, and is at the point where I am about to dump FF and move to Chrome. How can I stop the insanity.

If this is happening to all your add-ons:
Firefox stores the information about whether you've seen the prompt about add-on compatibility in a pref:

What may be going on is that something is preventing Firefox from saving that preference and so it keeps triggering the prompt. Go to Help > Troubleshooting Information and click the Show Folder button next to "Profile Directory". Look for a file called prefs.js -- right click on it and select properties. Make sure it's not read-only or locked in any way.
There are other suggestions in the [[Preferences are not saved]] article if that doesn't help.

My 5 year old iMac's hard drive is at the point of failing. I'm trying to save al files on it, but it wont allow backup via Time Machine to an external hard drive. How can I keep from losing all the files and programs if the hard drive fails?

Get an external hard drive, some good ones that I like are the OWC, http://www.macsales.com Mercury Elite Pro drives...they are very good and reasonably priced.
Get the drive, connect via USB or FireWire, then use Disk Utility to format the new drive as Mac OS X Extended (Journaled), and then use Disk Utility to Restore the current drive to the new drive. Restore actually clones the drive so you will have a bootable backup on the external drive.
After you have formatted and named the external drive, click Restore in the main Disk Utility window, drag the name of the old hard drive to the Source box, and drag the name of the new external drive to the Destination box. DU will make an exact clone of the internal drive on the external drive.
That clone will be a complete backup of the operating system and all of your data.
You can test it by restarting the iMac and hold the Option key. That will give you a grey screen showing all bootable drives. Just click the external drive, then click the upward pointing arrow under it and the iMac will boot from that drive.

The otterbox is one of the culprits. Take the phone out of the case and see if it still happens. If so it is not the case. If the problem goes away, then you may need to make the hole slightly larger. My family has three iPhone 4's in otterboxes and none have this problem. Other users on this forum have reported success with the above methods.

I am setting up an iPhone for the first time on iTunes. I am trying to prepare for moving to the iCloud from me.com.
- I authorized the computer running iTunes>>> successful, I think
- transferred purchases to iTunes>>> successful, I think
- I synced the apps >>> all apps on the iPhone were deleted
- went back to sync apps & selected the boxes in the left panel>>>>> apps were installed on iPhone, no organization, data lost
- restored iPhone from (automatic) backup>>> all apps were restored with data & organization, then iTunes automatically synced & removed apps
- selected sync apps to be able to select all apps in left pane, but did not apply sync
- restored iPhone from (automatic) backup>>> all were restored, but iTunes has not yet synced to remove all apps
How in the world do you get iTunes to save the apps & data that you have without having what you have wiped out?
I don't have anything but the following:
- apps + data
- contacts
- email
- calendar
- photos
I have no songs, videos or other media. I have only what is on the iPhone. I am NOT trying to wipe it out or put info on it from my computer. I just want to upgrade the iPhone to the latest iOS and preserve what I have on the iPhone. Is this an unusual expectation? Why does iTunes wipe the iPhone when it syncs? Shouldn't I have to somehow delete something without it automatically being deleted?
It is like having a living, breathing NIGHTMARE!
Can someone please advise me the steps to take to do this?
I am just trying to prepare my wife's phone so that I can try to move both our phones to iCloud since me.com is disappearing. I can't wait to start the process of actually moving the phones. What will that be like if I can't even get her phone upgraded to iOS 5.1 without losing everything?

How can i keep from crashing?

early version cs5 blues. I keep getting crashes in After effects doing simple things like importing or clicking on windows or exporting. I tried saving my assets to another file and it still crashes. there isnt anything exotic in these comps, save for some blurs.
I just installed a script that makes creating solids cams etc faster (get sh*t done from ae scripts) and that may be causing a conflict.
I also get another strange crash where my screen starts to flicker and everything except the mouse, freezes. I have to hard press reboot.
It happens sometimes when i scrub the timeline.
I am also getting AE Open GL crashes. I bumped up the texture ram to 80% as per the adobe trouble shooting doc.
I also have CS3 loaded on here (for backup of course) and i dont know if the plists are causing some conflicts. I dont know if i should trash them?

Macpro 2.66 ghz quad-core
8GB of ram
Gforce GT-120
OS 10.6.4
150GB on my system drive free
150 GB on my project drive free
All cs5 applications are updated.
Any help would greatly be appreciated. I think i may not have my settings in proper order and would love to hear suggestions on how to optimize AE.

How do I keep from having my titles fade in and out in iMovie 10.0.1? Or is there a way to customize a title at all, other than location, size, and color (such as fade direction, duration, entrance...)?

This is something that I thought came standard with all video editing software and I'm very surprised to not be able to find it in my version of iMovie. All I want to do is create captions that don't fade in and out.

Several posters have asked this and it doesn't appear to be possible in iMovie 10. I guess you would have to create .png stills with the caption and the rest transparent then add them as cutaways.

How can I keep from receiving my incoming emails twice?

I receive most of my emails twice. When I delete one, they are both deleted.

This could be an issue with @mac.com, @me.com and @icloud.com adresses.
These addresses are the same, mail will be received double, but when you remove 1 of them, all 3 will be affected.
When you only have 2 of these (me.com/icloud.com), it happens too, but than with 2 duplicates instead of 3.

I have set Firefox to delete all cookies when I close the browser. Some websites identify my computer with a cookie, so when I try to log in to these sites, they don't recognize my computer because the identifying cookie has been deleted. I understand that Internet Explorer has a feature that preserves specified cookies, but haven't been able to find that capability in Firefox. Is there a way to do it?

Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox.
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
Make an Allow exception for the ones that you want to keep.

You can inspect and modify the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences" (Site Preferences includes the cookie exceptions)

For some reason , since Firefox's latest update, the browser resets everything I do to it each time I restart my computer, How can I fix this?

Recent Update has messed up my firefox browser. If I set a new homepage, the next time I turn-off then turn on my computer the homepage is reset to default. Any sort of setting I change, reverts to default if I turn off my computer and turn in on again. Please advise!

When Mail is Open on iMac, how can I keep mail from also going to iPhone?

I spend most of the day on my iMac, with Apple Mail open. Over a few hours, I get dozens or more emails. I deal with them on my Mac as they come in or I have time. Now the same emails also show up on my iPhone and iPad. How can I keep from having the emails sent to my iPhone and iPad when I have mail open on my iMac? It used to be that when my iMac was open and mail on, I couldn't get mail on my iPhone, which is just what I wanted.
I've messed around with mail preferences, but maybe don't know what to set. (I know I can inactivate my account on the iPhone and iPad, but don't always remember to do that.)
