Not to be picky, but just in case your not sure what Axel Foley means by right click it is holding control and click. He must have spent too much time on the other side of the window

How can you tell how much space is being used up by your iTunes...I am trying to figure out how much space I will need to transfer my iTunes library to an iPod and which iPod to select?

Start up iTunes, and select Music, then click Songs.
Down at the bottom of the iTunes window, it will tell you how much space your library occupies.

when I see the usage on my iPod touch 4 they have categories for how much space is being used where. What does the "other" category contain? Like what could I delete on my iPod to get rid of the "other" category?

What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.
    First try:
"First you go settings/general/usage/music/then left swipe over music and press delete and you would think it deletes your music but it doesn't instead it deletes your other but make sure your ipod is connected to a computer while doing this"

Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:

Open any folder on it and choose Show Status Bar from the Finder’s View menu.
Alternatively, choose Computer from the Go menu, control-click the drive, and choose Get Info.

  • [SOLVED] How much space is REALLY used on my HDD?

    Hi there,
Today I moved my /home/ dir to its own partition, so that my settings are safe from the system.
I have a question about the used space:
When I use "df -h" to see how much space is used, this is the output for home:
    /dev/sda2             184G  465M  175G   1% /home
So 465 MB should be used. When I right click on home and select properties only 243,5 MB are used!?
I know about the MB/MiB problem... but that would not be that extreme...
    Any ideas?
    greetings, yodo

It is used to store information about the filesystem structure. Inodes, Blocks, etc. Have a look at this c't article: http://www.heise.de/open/Das-Dateisyste … l/104859/0 (German article)

  • How much space did you get after SL installation?

I am curious about the freed space on hard disk people got after installation. The reason is that I decided to check mine. Before I had 268.99 GB of free space on my 500Gb drive. With Snow Leopard installed I have 302.49 GB of free space now. Simple math calculations show that I got 33.5 GB (!!!). Is it just my iMac or anybody else experienced same relief?

Got a strange issue/bug with our networked XServe RAID since upgrading one of our macs to Snow Leopard yesterday. The SL mac claims there's currently 367 GB available on it, but all of the other Leopard macs report that it's 342! Which is correct?
Is this miraculous hard drive space you get back after a SL installation all smoke and mirrors..?
Aha - I should've read the whole thread and clicked the links! Looks like SL reports file sizes differently.

  • I want to update my Mac from 10.6.8 to Mavericks, but every time it says update unavailable for this computer. How do I check for space available or how much space I  have used? Help please, I am new to using Mac computers.

I am a new Mac user and I bought a refrubished Mac that has Mac OS X VERSION 10.6.8. I have been wanting to upgrade to Mavericks, but every time I go to do that a message comes up saying OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer. Is there anyway I can instal it? Better yet how can I look up how much GB of memory I have and the available storage?

    1. No, but you might be able to upgrade to Lion. Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check that the computer has at least a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU, and if so, click here.
    2. Check the RAM from the About this Mac window, choose Computer from the Finder's Go menu, control-click the internal drive, and choose Get Info. If the computer has a 32-bit EFI, it can't be upgraded to Mountain Lion or above regardless of the RAM and free drive space.

  • How much space should I dedicate from my hard drive for Windows?

So I am going to buy a Macbook Pro w/768 GB Flash Storage. I need to run windows on it for Autodesk products for school. Should I install Windows 7 or 8? And how much of my hard drive should I dedicate to it? I will need Revit, Autocad, & Autocad 3D Civil. I would like to have extra space as well for antivirus and any other possible software I may have to install.
This will be my first Mac so I'm kind of lost.

If that turns out not to be sufficient space then you can use CampTune to add more space non-destructively.
I base it on experience. Windows plus your software will likely take up nearly 40 or 50 GBs altogether. Allow another 20 or 30 GBs for data and miscellaneous. This leaves about 20 GBs of extra space.

  • How Do I Find How Much "space" My Documents uses

Were can i find how much hard drive space my documents occupies.  I'm trying to save to the cloud but I'm not sure how much I need to purchase....

Select the folder in Finder, then press Cmd+I, or right-click it and Get Info. You will then see how large the folder is. If it's large, it may take a while to calculate the size.

  • How much data did you use on day #1?

Just to get some perspective on how much people are using....
How much have you used so far?
What have you been doing to use data? Downloading apps, surfing the 'net, YouTube, hotspot, facetime, etc...
I've used approximately 1.2mb: 360kb sent, 917kb received. I pre-loaded my apps in iTunes, so this was mostly web surfing & using apps. This was since about noon yesterday.

I do use Pandora a ton on my iPad with wifi so I see what you mean when using it on 3G... I guess you have a point... Certain Apps will drain data... Just maybe the everyday internet browser consumer would be ok though
a lot of people would be ok. the problem that the carriers run in to are the average user that doesn't even know how to check the data usage. they have their email, facebook, weather, etc, etc constantly syncing and then download a movie or something....and before they know it they are at 3 gigs and storm into the store, irate, when they see their overage fees....lol

  • How much space did you save?  I got 17 GB back!

For some reason, I went from 107.44 GB of free space to 124.55 GB of free space on my iMac after installation - a savings of a bit over 17 GB! Nice! It seems that Apple has over-delivered on their promise of 6 GB or I had a bunch of baggage that needed to go and the install did it!
All is well on my install. Things seem snappy but that may just be because the cobwebs have been blown out.

I gained about 8GB upgrading to SL. The installation was seamless, kudos to Apple. Install time was about 65 minutes, but my disk drive is only 5400rpm. The install still took less time than the upgrade from Tiger to Leopard last fall. I chose the upgrade install, not a full install from scratch.
My biggest concern was running Cubase Studio 5, but it seems to work fine. Loaded a few projects and ran them with success. Last fall going from Tiger to Leopard was a pain re: Cubase 4 LE, b/c of the licensing. Now using the dongle, no license issue.
I wasn't going to jump on the Snow Leopard bandwagon this soon, but couldn't resist! My little MacBook appreciated the move from Tiger to Leopard, and ran much snappier. In the short time I've had with SL it seems to have improved even more.
    Good luck!

  • How much space does books use

I want to buy an ipad mini mainy for reading books. Do I need a 16 or a 32

Most ibooks tend to be fairly small - the average size is probably 2 to 3 meg, though some can be a lot larger (I have a couple that are over 60 meg each). If reading is what you will mainly be doing then 16 gig should be sufficient, it's films, tv shows, music and potentially photos that tend to take up the most space.
