How can I label my rows on numbers so I can keep a running count? Dave

How can I label my rows on numbers so I can keep a running count?
i would like to number from 1 to 150  by highlighting and use a function command
Dave
               Name               Address          Email
Ex      1
          2
          3
          4
          150

Add a column to the left of column A (it will become column A).
Assuming you want to start with the first "name" in Row 2 (and NOT number the header row):
Two methods:
1.
In cell A2, enter =ROW()-1
Grab the Fill Handle (small circle, bottom right of the selected cell) and drag down to fil the formula into the rest of the cells in the column.
If the formula is placed in ALL non-header row cells in the column, it will automatically fill into any rows added to the table.
If rows are inserted or removed, numbers below the inserted/removed row will be automatically adjusted.
2.
In cell A2, enter a 1
In cell A3, enter a 2
Select both cells.
Grab the Fill Handle and drag down to the rest of the cells in the column.
These are fixed numbers. They will not be automatically filled into new rows added to the table, nor will they automatically update when rows are inserted into the table or removed from the table.
To add more numbers, select the last two cells currently containing numbers, drag the Fill Handle down.

Barry

How do you duplicate a row in numbers?

    Hi Rusty,
I worry that this may be a trick question, but here goes:
Click on the Row tab to select the entire row.
Command-C to Copy the Row to the Clipboard
    Insert > Copied Rows
Or, did you have something else in mind?

  • How do I add multiple rows in Numbers for iPad?

how do I add multiple rows in Numbers for iPad?

    Hi James,
On the iPod I can only insert what is on the clipboard but I can insert however many rows I have there. Is it working differently for you? Benjoon seemed to think that he could not do this in Numbers. He was ruling Numbers out because of it. He doesn't need to do that because of this issue.
If I was needing to insert multiple blank rows often I might keep a table of blank rows or just some blank rows at the end of the working table that I could copy/paste. This is no different than Numbers on the Mac.

  • Does anyone knows how to highlight every other row in numbers mac

Does anyone knows how to highlight every other row in numbers and are there any good tutorials out there???

    Hi Lee,
Select a non-header cell in the table.
Open the Inspector and choose the Table Inspector.
Click to check the 'Alternating Row Color' box in the Cell Background section.
Click the Color well beside the check box to open the Color pane.
    Choose a colour.
The alternating colours are applied only to the non-header rows and non-header columns in your table.

how can i make a touchable program in numbers that i can trasfer to my iphone and use out in the field of work? i am pretty good at excel sheets, but am still new with my macbook.

Excel can't make an iPhone application, it can only make a spreadsheet. You would need an iPhone app capable of reading a spreadsheet produced by Excel.

  • How do I insert a row in Numbers?

I see no function for the insertion of a row or column available.  Is it even possible?

"There's a side tab to the box when you click on it.  I'm very new."
It's called the Row Reference Tab for that row.
Here are two other ways to insert a row into a Numbers table:
Click any cell to select it. Go Table (menu) > Insert Row Above toinsert a row above the selected cell, or Go Table > Insert Row Below to insert a row below the selected cell.
Click any cell to select it. Press option-up arrow OR option-down arrow to insert a row above or below the selected cell.
To insert multiple rows, use a variation of the first method:
Select a column of as many cells as you wish to add rows. Go Table > Insert Rows Above (or Below).
I'll second Jerry's remarks regarding the Numbers '09 User Guide.

  • How to open a saved spreadsheet in Numbers so I can edit it?

I have saved a 7 page spreadsheet. I can open the file.
Can't seem to open an individual page so I can edit the pages.

    Hi Marley,
When you say 7 pages, do you mean 7 sheets?
    What version of Numbers?
In Numbers 3.2 the sheet tabs are across the top:
What do you see on your screen? A screenshot will help explain.

  • How do I sum a row in numbers 09?

I am a teacher wanting to sum grades by row, not column.
I've tried dragging the black plus sign down as videos indicate.
    No luck...
It is very time intensive to do this by hand when I know there has to be a simply way.
    please and thank you--

If you want to sum a row, select the cell where you want the answer, then type the equal sign ("="), then the function you want (in your case "sum(", include the open paerenthesis, click the row header (the  number on the very left):
    they type the close parenthesis:
    In this example :
    A7=SUM(5:5)
this is shorthand for.... select cell A7, then type (or copy and paste from here) the formula:
    =SUM(5:5)
you can also use the "quick" method which is:
    1) select the row
    2) drag the sum tag from the quick caluclations from the bar at the bottom to th ecell where you want it:

  • Can I lock individual cells in Numbers like I can in Excel?

I need to lock specific cells to protect the formulas in those cells.  Is there anyway to do this in Numbers like there is in Excel?

No, Michele, you can only lock entire tables. What you must do is to segregate your stuff into what needs to be locked and what needs to be not locked, in separate tables, lock one table and keep the other open.

  • Can i make screen sleep when plugged into tv but keep ipad running?

I don't know if it's hard on the screen to keep it up and running when I have the ipad connected to the television watching a movie on netflix, for example, but it sure seems like a waste of it's life.  Is there anyway tell the ipad to sleep the screen but keep it running?  Other than for playing music, which I know it does.

Is there anyway tell the ipad to sleep the screen but keep it running?
No, the video app needs to have that feature built in. For example, the Apple video app does black out the display, but when I use VLC or Netflix they do not.

  • Dragging rows in Numbers

I can no longer drag rows in Numbers. I was able to do this until very recently.
When I click on the number on the left hand side of the row, nothing happens. I used to be able to do this and then drag the row. Any suggestions?

Sorry for not providing enough info with the initial post.
I can edit the document in most ways. I can resize rows and columns and do eveyrthing inside of cells.
When I click on the number at the left-hand side of the row, I can get the drop-down menu, but I can't move the row at all. I don't think I can move individual cells, either.
I just tried to move other rows in a different Numbers spreadsheet and I can not.
I'm not sure how to attach a screenshot.

ipadmini inbox maintains there are 907 items in inbox, but I have deleted all items. How do I get rid of the numbers?

You can't delete the All On My Mac as it is an automatic group to display all of the contacts that are stored "On My Mac." You can delete all of the contacts that are in the ON MY MAC section by selecting All ON My Mac and then selecting all contacts. Press delete and approve the deletion. Then, select each group under ON My Mac and delete those individually.
Then, Make sure iCloud is set as the default account in the General Address Book Preferences.
