How can I let Pages '09 and Pages 5.0.1 coexist in my Mac?

I'm using an iMac with Mavericks 10.9.1. I 'upgraded' my copy of Pages to 5.0.1, but I'm working with someone who doesn't have it (his machine can't be upgraded to Mavericks, so no Pages 5.0.1 for him). In order to exchange documents and edits with him, I started by exporting documents from my computer in the old format so he could read them, but then I noticed that my old iWork folder was still there in Applications, so I started up Pages '09 and began to work with that. Things seemed to work until someone sent me an email with a Pages 5.0.1 document attached (it showed the 5-style icon). When I tried to open it, I got a message saying that I needed a more up-to-date version of Pages to do so. Well, I've got it, but I can't make the document open in the newer Pages, even if I do "Open in... and pick the newer app in the Applications folder. I am wondering if there is some kind of interference between the two versions (using the same preferences file or something like that). Can anyone shed any light on this. I'm still looking myself.

There is no interference between versions, they are independent applications. Only depends which App OSX choses to open the file with.
If your friend sent you a Pages 5.1 file, your Pages 5.01 will not be able to open it.
Apple has amazingly managed to create file incompatibilities even between minor updates.

Actually, you can use iCloud and the way that you so it is to log into iCloud.com on the Mac (use Safari for best results) click on the Pages icon and then drag the Pages files into the browser window. It works the other way around as well. Log into iCloud.com on the Mac and download the files from Pages (that you created on the iPad) in iCloud onto your Mac. You can click on the file in the documents window and select it to Download by clicking on the Gear icon or right click upon the file and select download.
The files will then sync to the Pages app on the iPad - assuming hat you have use iCloud tuned on in Settings>Pages>Use iCloud>On. I have an iMac running Tiger 10.4.11 that I can still move Pages/Word files back and forth Iike this.
Also, File Sharing with iTunes is a great way to move the files back and forth.

It is not Pages '09 that is broken.
I am back in Mavericks and testing Pages 5.2.
There are improvements, we shall see how useful, but in less than a minute I have already discovered bugs.

With Acrobat 6.0 I was able to copy a stamp in the same position (I mean "exactly" the same one) of different pages just by using the "copy/past" tool.
Now I am using Acrobat XI and it seems like it is not possible anymore: I am copying a stamp and I am trying to past it in anoter page, but it appears in the center of the page (or wherever it wants to...).
Does anyone have a solution?

Have you redeemed your iTunes card to an account associated with an Apple ID?
Once you have your iPad associated with an Apple ID AND you have an account with a credit card associated with the same Apple ID AND you have some 'store credit' (from redeeming your iTunes card) then purchases use the store credit before they charge the credit card, so you should be ok!
Personally, I use 'store credit' as a way to monitor whether or not there have been any 'unauthorised' purchases because as soon as the store credit is zero, the security code from the credit card is needed for further purchases! It does mean that I have sometimes to top up store credit before making a purchase, but 'better safe than sorry'!

In addition to the last poster's suggestion - just so you know, it also depends on the email program the recipient uses as to how they will see any attachments - for instance, when I am using my Yahoo Mail, I am absolutely unable to view any attachment within the browser window - Yahoo forces me to download it; there is no way for me to check it (like a preview) to see if I want to download it or not.
And, FWIW: the window shown in the screenshot does not show on my version of Mail 5.1 (which is the latest for 10.7.2); the only one similar shows when viewing a message received with an attachment, not while sending one. So that must be a different version.

That is becuase Pages 5.1 has numerous unnounced surprises for the unwary user. Among the surprises:
- it strips out images from headers and footers without warning
- it strips out bookmarks without wanring (yes, all those bookamrks you laboriously put into a document: poof! Gone.)
- it strips out alternating left/right margins, without warning.
There are many more suprises, as you'll see from glancing through these discussions. They fall into two main categories: things that are present in version 4.3 but that are missing in 5.1, things like
-mail merge
-meaningful Applescript/Services support
-non-contiguous text selection
-ability to set defaul zoom
-ability to see comments while editing
-ability to print comments
-ability to read RTF files
-ability to drag in hyperlinked ted from a browser
These about about 90 other features are gone.
Then there are the bugs. Hyperlinks do not reliably export to a PDF file any longer. There have been multiple problems with printing report. Some fonts place stray characters in the headers. Many reports of the program crashing, courrupting files, etc.
Fortunately for you, the previous version of Pages is still on your system. Export any documents you may have created or edited with Pages 5.1 (another great surprise: files created with version 5.1 cannot be read by any previous version of Pages: not just 4.3 but even 5.01!). Then trash 5.1 and use 4.3 until (unless?) it is stable and has a reasonably robust feature set.

I believe that albums are sorted by the creation date. I don't think that you can change this in the Photos App.

I am very frustrated using Pages 5.2. It is not as easy to use as 5.2 and causes me all sorts of problems - especially when highlighting text. How can I uninstall Pages 5.2 and go back to Pages 4.3 which was much easier to use?

It seems that Apple is trying to turn its computer applications into iphone apps. They are eliminating essential features and functions that don't work on a 600 dollar pocket watch. It appears to be part of a misguided attempt to have universal cross-platform compatibility. Or they just want to get out of the computer business. I suspect that accountants are having too much influence on business models. There is a place for accountants. But giving too much control to bean counters can eliminate quality and cripple innovation, leading to the ultimate downfall of the corporation.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
After the device has turned off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

Thanks for the trouble to reply. this problem only happens with Pages and Numbers for me. i have done all the tricks like restarting. the main problem is that the working space is not 'stable' - it has no 'ends' even on full screen. in Numbers - UNLESS I SET IT TO 25% VIEW (which is way too small) - the actual total 'work space' is way off the grid - so every time i move the mouse the table i am working on zooms off to left or right, at the slightest touch. i have set my mouse to no gestures!
the thing is this did not happen before the latest upgrades.

(it used to be ok, at one time, too). now it continually reverts to BY SUBJECT oh so annoying !

If you mean that you aren't getting the reset link, then from the page that you posted from :
Note: The option to send an email to reset your security questions and answers will not be available if a rescue email address is not provided. You will need to contact iTunes Store support in order to do so.

When they've been reset you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 page that you posted from to add a rescue email address for potential future use
