How can I load word processing software onto my Apple Mac?

Hi
Is it possible to install word processing software on a new Apple Mac? I've found something called 'Pages' but I can't work out how to buy it or install it.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
There are different word processing apps you can use in your Mac:
Microsoft Word for Mac. Included in Office for Mac, it provides full compatibility with Microsoft Office for Windows and it's probably the app with more features > http://www.microsoft.com/mac
Apple Pages. You can buy it on the Mac App Store, but you can download it for free if you have got a new Mac (open the App Store and go to Purchases). It has got a new interface, but some users have complained about its lack of features. As it's free, you can give it a try.
LibreOffice. Free and open-source, one of the most recommended applications > http://www.libreoffice.org

  • How can I load my CF card onto my ipad with Lightning conector?

    Hey apple freaks,
I'm going on a trip to Burma; I'm not taking my MBpro with me, so i'm taking my Ipad retina with me. But I have a DSLR that takes only CF cards. Where or how can I find a way to transfer my photos from my CF card unto my ipad retina/lighting connector?
I do have a passive USB card reader for my CF cards. Would I be able to transfer using a USB adapter to Lighting?
for example, CF card--->passive USB card reader---->USB (female) to Lighting connector----->Ipad retina? Would this world perfectly fine?

You can try one of these:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD821ZM/A/lightning-to-usb-camera-adapter
Assuming your camera or your card reader do not require too much power this should let you access your CF card form them.
If they do, most likely the camera will, you may need a powered USB hub between the camera/reader and the adapter.

It sounds like those contacts may be in another account on your phone. I believe you can only move them to the iCloud account on a mac/PC.

  • How do I load disc-based software onto new ssd macbook pro?

If I buy a new macbook pro retina with no superdrive, can I transfer software (Office Mac ) from my old G5 Mac to it?

    PeterWHarrow wrote:
Ok thanks, so I need an external drive - there's no other way to transfer data/apps?
Well, since nothing is ever simple, there's the issue of "will it run on Mavericks" though I think it will so far (though MS doesn't support it on OS X 10.9), and  how will it look on a Retina MBP's screen? From what I've read, it hasn't been updated to be compatible with the Retina screen, and, unlike Office 2011, it never will be so it won't look nearly as good as it could.
However, you might be able to copy everything on the DVD to a USB flash drive and try to run the installer from that.

  • How can I load and process an HTML5 file with Javascript in the same way as an XML file?

I maintain a diary in local weekly files that I am converting to HTML5 from XHTML. I wish to extract all the "articles" about particular topics from these files and display them in different orders. It is possible to load an XHTML file using the loadXMLDoc function described at http://www.w3schools.com/dom/dom_loadxmldoc.asp but the same function detects a parsing error when it reads an HTML5 file. (For example, the parser expects an empty element's tag to end with />). How do I persuade Firefox 16.0.1 to use an appropriate parser?

  • How can I activate Dreamweaver CS3 on a second Apple Mac when the original Mac has gone wrong?

    I have Dreamweaver CS3.
I have used it on my laptop and my desktop Macs.
In the past, I have simply deactivated it on one Mac to use it on the other.
My laptop, which has Dreamweaver activated on it, has a graphics card problem and is in for repair.
I cannot use the Dreamweaver installed on my desktop computer because I cannot de-activate it on the laptop (which is being repaired by Apple and which Apple say they can't access to de-activate it, because there is no screen display).
This is obviously going to be a future problem if one of the Macs blows up while Dreamweaver is activated on it. I will not be able to use the Dreamweaver I bought nor service my website.
    Help! ?

You could always download the trial version until the laptop is fixed. But, I don't know if you can even save a file from CS5 that would be compatible in 3.  It is sucky to not have the single user, two activation license. This is one of the things I applaud Adobe for. Most major software licenses are meant for a single machine, and not so concerned about users - that they know it's unlikely that several users would share a machine.it does happen, but it's also quite an inconvenience.  The two activation solution takes into account a more realistic scenario for a single user. The other option being used with some programs is the dongle, which I also like, even though many others don't for various and valid reasons. Anyway, I just looked at a page in cs4 and it doesn't really save in any particular version, HTML is HTML. I just don't know what will happen if someone goes to open it in CS3 - will it open less any CS4 code, not open, erase the code on save? Will it be the same for 5? Just wondering as you may be able to use the trial.

  • How can I attach a hard drive to an Apple IIe?

And how can I load applications on it? Most Apple IIe programs are DOS 3.3 and you cannot format a hard drive in DOS 3.3. Do I format the hard drive in ProDos?
How do I set up a hard drive in ProDos format? Do I just create a menu manually?

First, you need a controller and drive. SCSI controllers are getting kind of collectible, so expect to pay upwards of US$100 for one on eBay. With some diligence, you might get lucky and find one for free in someone's attic-bound Apple.
A contemporary vendor sells a controller card that connects a CompactFlash card to an Apple called the CFFA:
    http://dreher.net/CFforAppleII/
While this costs as much as one of the collectible SCSI cards, it has the advantage of being physically new and free of the problems of old mechanical hard drives just waiting for their turn to fail.
And how can I load applications on it? Most Apple
IIe programs are DOS 3.3 and you cannot format a hard
    drive in DOS 3.3.
That can be kind of tricky. There are lots of options (communications programs, transfer programs, etc). It all kind of depends on what you want to copy over. If you want to just launch games, DOS launchers like this would help:
    http://www.apple2.org.za/gswv/a2zine/System/DOS33LaunchInfo.txt
Do I format the hard drive in ProDos?
Yes, you will be formatting it with ProDOS. Your SCSI card will have associated software for partitioning the physical drive. If it doesn't come with the card you find, it is generally find-able on the internet. The CFFA card imposes fixed partition sizes on the CompactFlash card, so there's nothing to be done there.
How do I set up a hard drive in ProDos format? Do I
    just create a menu manually?
Once the drive is partitioned, you format it with the normal ProDOS menu system.

  • HT5071 Can I create a book using the IBooks Author word processing software, save it as a PDF, then have it professionally printed by an offset press to sale in brick and mortar stores? If so, is this procedure free me from any IBooks restrictions?

It's your content, under your control.
If you output as an .ibooks file, and you want to sell it, the store is the only outlet, otherwise, you can do as you wish.

I loaded music on my nano with my old laptop. now using a new laptop and want to load music on my nano but it wants to delete all song. How can I load new music frmo new laptop onto my nano and keep existing songs?

Import the music on the external HD into iTunes.  If you don't want iTunes to make a new copy of each track that is stored in your iTunes Media folder on your PC's internal HD, make sure the Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library option is NOT ticked from under the Advanced tab of iTunes Preferences.  Just remember that if you go this route, you'll always need to have your external HD plugged in before you start up iTunes.

  • TS1702 How can i load sibeluis scorch ,because since the software update it will not work any more, before it worked well ?

How can i load sibelius scorch, before the software update it worked well, now it will not work, even re down loading it will not hold, please help?

That would appear to be a Mac program, so posting here in the iTunes Store forum isn't likely to get you any useful advice. If this support article from Sibelius doesn't help:

I'd suggest asking in the Sibelius forums or contacting Avid/Sibelius support.

  • Word processing software:  Appleworks, NeoOffice / saving as Word.doc

I would love some advice on word processing software.
My daughter is a college student who sometimes needs to e-mail her papers to a teacher (in Word). She does not have Word, and we're not buying it. In the past, she's used the school computers, but that's not always practical. She has a Mac, with Appleworks on it. If she works in Appleworks and saves a paper in Word format, will it really open okay in Word, with footnotes, images, etc. intact? (Obviously, she doesn't want to get a lower grade for something so silly and avoidable.) I think I have seen on this forum somewhere a mention of trouble with footworks in Appleworks docs saved in Word format.
Also, if she were to save as a Word doc, which format would be the best to use: Word Mac 6; Word Mac 98; Word Windows 6; Word Windows 97, 2000, XP 2002?
She also needs to do simple tables sometimes, which it looks like Appleworks can do. Do these translate well?
Also, I have looked at NeoOffice and OpenOffice online. It looks like one of those would be a possibility for her, too. Apparently, documents can be saved as Word files in those programs. Does anyone know if they are any better than Appleworks for this purpose? (For instance, with footnotes?)
From the NeoOffice Website: "You can exchange documents with Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.org users, even on other platforms!" Does that mean a Word file will open and display okay, if you get one e-mailed to you? And that your own Word file will open and display okay on the other end? (I know this is not about Appleworks, but someone might know. . .)
Looking through this forum, I have seen software for opening Word documents (icWord), but my daughter needs to be able to (reliably) go both ways--saving and opening.
    Thanks much in advance!
    Christina
Powerbook G4; Intel iMac 20inch Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Overall, I'd concur with Ken.
AppleWorks/Word conversion does have difficulties with tables and footnotes.
Neo Office has better compatibility with MS Office, and runs without installing additional software on your Mac. But it's a Java implementation of an earlier version of OpenOffice.org, and is missing a few recent improvements. It's also a bit slow, although in some uses this is not a problem.
OpenOffice.org runs in an Xwindow (no relation to MS Windows), and requires installation of X11, Apple's Xwindow implementation. I haven't used it, but expect that it is a more compatible implementation than NeoOffice.
Both are free to download and use. If nothing else, one or the other is useful to see how successful the AppleWorks > Word translation of a particular file has been.
The closest compatibility will be achieved with MS Windows (Mac), of course. If your reasons for not purchasing MS Windows are strictly economic, you mmight want to rethink them. As a student, your daughter is elegible to purchase the Teacher and Student edition at a much lower price than the retail version. This version is operationally identical to the retail one. The largest difference is a licencing one—student/teacher licencees are not eligible for reduced price upgrades to the next version. They are, though, eligible to purchase the next Student & Teacher edition provided they still qualify at that time.

  • How can I load a .pst file to an instrument in logic express 9?

I have some instruments plug-in settings from my old computer that I used with logic, and I want to load them into logic so I can use them on the computer I moved them to. On any instrument I try (ES1, ES2, EXS24 and the rest) it won't allow me to load the files (.pst files) and I know I should be able to. Am I just going about it wrong or using the wrong instrument? How can I load these files so that I can use the instruments again?

Pages is not in a format compatible for what you want to do.
After you save a a Pages document, go to File > Export > and choose either Word or Pdf format. You can also choose RTF or PlainText too. Then you can email to yourself or others.
    Good Luck.

  • How do you do word processing on the iPad is there a word processing App?

How do you do word processing on the iPad is there a word processing App?

It all depends on what I need to use the document for.
When I need to create a text document that I need to share at work I use OnLive Desktop.  This gives me a Windows 7 Desktop with Office 2010 apps on it that I can connect to DropBox. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/onlive-desktop/id490292278?mt=8 or CloudOn https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cloudon/id474025452?mt=8. You have to be connected to a FAST wifi network to use this option.
If I need to create a Word doc on the go I use QuickOffice Pro. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/quickoffice-pro-hd-edit-office/id376212724?mt=8
    Connects to DropBox.
If I just need to create a formatted text document, think Word document, I use Pages.  It is easy to use on the iPad, because it was designed for it from the start and it now supports TrackChanges. But it does Track Changes a bit clumsy.   https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pages/id361309726?mt=8
Connects to iCloud and you can open in Pages from DropBox.
If I just need a plain text document, I use PlainText.  Connects to DropBox and is easy to use.  https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/plaintext-dropbox-text-editing/id391254385?mt=8
There are lots of options out there, it just depends on what you need to do the most.
