How can I lock my stolen iPad?

Question

My iPad was stolen on a bus 162 bus in Eltham London. The serial number is  DM*******J8R.
Does anyone know how I can locate it or how I can lock it so nobody can use it?

If the iPad was running iOS 7, the thief/finder will not ever be able to use it.

Apple (and no one else) can not assist (with serial number or iCloud) in finding a lost or stolen iPad.
Report to police along with serial number. Change all your passwords.
