How can i log out of mail?

Is there really no way to log out of Mail on a Macbook Pro? I can quit Mail but when I click to icon I'm straight back into my inbox. This means that unless I want everyone in the house to potentially be able to see my emails, I have to logout of my laptop every time I go out? This is crazy. How can I even plan a secret birthday present for my partner if my inbox is on display when he walks past the computer?

I didn't mean to sound rude. I do get that if I sign in i see my mail, and if someone else signs in their see their mail. But the logic is that once you've instigated Mail on your macbook, you are compelled for ever more to sign OUT of your account each time you leave the laptop, if you want you want your email to be private. Until now, I have never signed in or out of my user account - we just all browse using the same account (and log in and out of our own facebook and bank accounts etc) because there is nothing private associated with the account. But now, I've launched the Mail app and everyone has to fiddle around signing in and out each time. It's not that I have anything very secret but I'd still like to know the email exchanges I have with friends are private.
What I'm doing now - this for the benefit of those who come after who have made the same error - is create a new user account for myself and I'm transferring all files and preferences across. And then I just won't use the other account again.
So that is all a bit insane.

You can't tell by the email address since you can pretty much put whatever you want in there (especially if the SMTP server is not filtering anything).
The header may be able to tell you something. There is a Received header value which looks like it has the routing information although I am not sure if this is a complete trace or just the last hop the message took.

Syncing your phones to the same iCloud account won't cause them to both ring all the time, it only puts the same contacts, calendars, and other synced data on the phone. The phones will only ring with someone calls the number associated with the phone.
If you want to stop using iCloud on one or both of the phones, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then choose Keep On My iPhone when prompted. This will disconnect them from iCloud and keep a copy of the synced data on the phone.

You need to return it to the seller and get your money back. You cannot reset or use the device with another AppleID installed unless you know the password for that ID.
If the device has been jailbroken, no one on here can give you any further help...the Terms of Use prohibit us from doing so.

You can't.
Return the phone to whoever you bought it from and get a refund. Without the previous owners password you will not be able to enter your own iCloud acount, and when you update the phone, you won't be able to re-activate it as it will be locked to the previous owners account.
You should've checked the phone was not locked to someone else's iCloud account BEFORE buying it.

Why do you need to "log out" "delete" your email account?
If you don't want to receive emails just quit Mail.
If you want to delete your account:
Mail>Preferences>Accounts. Uncheck 'enable this account'

Amy, as BusyMe told you earlier you will have to turn off "fast user switching" in XP to be able to access your music. Your brother will have to log on to the computer & you will have to log off when you are done for both of you to get to your libraries. This can't be done with "fast user" turned on.
