How can I lose the Library folder in my Users folder?

I have Time Machine running and it is doing a good job backing up my mail among other things. It shows my mailboxes as being backed up from a Library folder in my Users folder. However on my Mac the Library folder does not show up in the Users folder. Where one would expect to find it - between Downloads and Movies - there is nothing. Can anyone tell me where it might have gone? Obviously the data within is still there somewhere and Mail is functioning normally. Have I somehow managed to hide it in some security setting?

On OS X Lion and Mountain Lion, ~/Library (being ~ your user folder) is hidden by default. However, you can access to it by two ways. However, you only need one, because you have to unhide the folder.
To unhide the folder, open Terminal and type:
chflags nohidden ~/Library
Finally, Library will appear on your user folder and you will be able to go to ~/Library/Mail, where mailboxes are saved

I have the computer that holds my itunes library. However, I no longer have access to the email account (and therefore apple account) it was set up with so can't sync/update etc. How can I transfer the library to my new apple id? Any help gratefully received as searched the internet but can't find the answer!
Have ipod touch 4th gen, ipod touch 5th gen and ipod nano 7th gen all to sync to library.

    Hi Stillme,
You cannot transfer purchases from one Apple ID to another. You need to go into the old Apple ID and change it to the new email address instead of using a new Apple ID altogether.
    Apple - My Apple ID
If you can't remember the password to the old ID, then click on Reset your Password, and answer the Security Questions. If you can't remember the Security Questions, contact iTunes Support and have them reset:
    APPLE ID SECURITY CONTACT NUMBERS
Once you get into your old account, Edit the Apple ID to your new email address. Before you will be able to do that you are going to have to change the email address on the new Apple ID to something else.

Yeah not a problem. It does seem though that if you did not have a Time Machine backup then you may not be able to recover the deleted folder :/ But for future reference to prevent any of this, a Time Machine backup is a great investment.
What it does is create an entire backup of your computer anything from personal information down to the screen saver.
What you first need is a new external hard drive (I would recommend a 1TB or higher just to prevent running out of space soon).
after that, just plug in the drive to your computer.
once it is plugged in, in the top right hand corner, close to the wi-fi symbol, you should see a symbol that looks like a clock with a backwards arrow around it.
click on that and select "open time machine preferences"
just turn the button to the "on" position, and select the backup drive and Time Machine does the rest
    very great tool

  • How can I import Firefox bookmarks, now stored in User folder on same (new) PC, into Firefox?

How can I import Firefox bookmarks, now stored in User folder on same (new) PC, into Firefox? I have exported the Firefox bookmarks from my old PC into a [Windows 8] folder on my new PC.
When I use the Firefox import facility, it will only import one bookmark at a time - and then it bookmarks all the main pages on the bookmarked website, not just the one which I originally bookmarked. It also does not import the information stored in the bookmark tag.

    Sure thing.
    # Open the run dialog by holding the Windows key and pressing R

  • How can I move the ~/Library/Mail folder?

I partition my hard drives into Startup/OSX, Tools, and several data volumes. I would MUCH rather store email and attachments in a data volume, as I do all my other work product, big application caches, Music, and Pictures folders. I have tried aliases and symbolic links, and everything is ignored by Mail; no mailbox is recognized unless it is in the original location, unlike Pictures, Music, Movies, etc.
I would appreciate having control over this. Does anyone have ay tips or workarounds? I am capable of diddling plists and other config files at a fairly low level, if necessary.

If you are keeping virtually everything in your Home folder on a different volume, then perhaps a better solution is to move the entire Home folder. You can move the entire Home folder to another volume, then direct Leopard to use the Home folder in the new location.
Open Accounts preferences, click on the lock icon and authenticate. Click on your account entry then CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Advanced Options from the contextual menu. To the right of the field labeled "Home Directory" is a button labeled "Choose." Click on the button, locate your new Home folder, select it and click on the Open button. Now restart the computer. You should now be using the relocated Home folder.
Now, if you would rather not do that then you can move the /Home/Library/Mail/ folder to the other drive. You will then need to create a soft link to this location using the Terminal command "ln -s source target" without quotes. You must first delete the original /Home/Library/Mail/ folder. So your command may look like:
    ln -s /Volumes/volname/PathToNew/Mail ~/Library/Mail
The "~" tilde is the Unix shorthand for your user folder.
This should create a new folder in /Home/Library/ named Mail which is a symbolic link to the relocated Mail folder.

  • How can we know the password for a oracle user

    Hi to All,
Can any one help me plz how can we know the password for any user in oracle.
    Regards
    dxb_dba

Assuming one wants to stay with database-stored passwords (the traditional method), one may want to look at the password aging and complexity enforcing mechanisms.
Oracle has a complete manual around this. For 10gR2, the Oacle Database Security Guide chapter 4 is interesting reading - section 4.3 is the discussion for database authentication. And section 7.4.4 talks about the complexity enforcement.

  • How can I clear the library so I can reupload all of my music?

I have transferred all of my music from my hard drive to an external hard drive, and I want to clear out my music library so I can start fresh.  All of the music that is in the library has the exclamation point saying that iTunes cannot locate.  Instead of having to go through and manually find all of my songs I thought it would be easier to start from scratch.  Any ideas on how to do that?

    Hi cboling!
Depending on how you want to go about doing this, I have a couple of articles for you. If you want to be able to keep your library of music files on your external hard drive and access them through iTunes on your computer from that location, then you will want to take a look at this article, about keeping your iTunes Media folder on your external hard drive:
iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1449
However, if you want to move your iTunes folder back onto your internal hard drive and use iTunes as you were before, you will want to reference this article:
iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1751
Specifically, you will want to reference the section about "Restoring your iTunes Library backup," which can be found here:
    Restoring your iTunes Library backup
When you need to restore your backed up iTunes Library from your external hard drive to your computer, follow these steps:
    Quit iTunes.
    Locate your external hard drive.
Mac: On the Desktop or Finder sidebar.
    Windows: In My Computer
Drag the iTunes folder (backed up earlier) from your external hard drive to whatever location you desire on your internal hard drive. It is recommended that you choose the default location for the iTunes folder, which is:
    Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
    Windows Vista: \Users\username\My Music\
    Windows 7 or 8: \Users\username\Music\
Open iTunes while holding down the Option key (Mac) or Shift key (Windows).
In the resulting dialog, click the Choose Library button.
Select the iTunes folder you just moved to the internal hard drive.
Click Choose (Mac OS X) or Open (Windows) and then choose the iTunes Library file inside .
After following these steps, iTunes will open and your iTunes Library will be restored.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

  • How can I redirect the library to look at another drive

I have an mp3 collection which has outgrown my hard drive. It is in a folder on the desktop with subfolders (representing albums) which contain the mp3s. My modus operandi is to drag and drop album folders into the playlist window which creates a playlist. I don't import them, per se, so they don't end up in ~/Music/ITunes. I have a gozillion playlists as a result. I bought a new behemoth drive and have copied the music collection to it but I don't relish the idea of rebuilding the playlists by hand. I tried exporting the Library song list as text and editing it so all entries have the new drive listed instead of the old drive, and then reading that file in using an applescript that was designed to repair corrupted libraries. It went through the motions but didn't change anything. (Seemed like a good hack) Anybody have any ideas on how to do this?
    G4 tower & G5 tower   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I just moved my library over and then created an alias in place of the library. My library is the ~/Music/iTunes type, I don't know if it would work for you, but it could.
What is this AppleScript? If you check back in the forum you'll see I have a thread about my library being corrupted. Although it appears to be the files, I wouldn't mind trying a library maintenance tool.

  • MY LAPTOP CRASHED BUT MY LIBRARY IS ON MY HOME PC HOW CAN I GET THE LIBRARY BACK TO MY LAPTOP WITHOUT ERASING THE SONGS I REPURCHASED

HOW CAN I MOVE LIBRARY FROM ONE PC TO MY LAPTOP WITHOUT ERASING REPURCHASED SONGS ON MY LAPTOP

I had the similar problem last night and found a solution (although it takes more than a few clicks).  Highlight all the album tracks in itunes on the pc and right click "get info". Check the artwork box in this window.  I found that the now playing art was showing up in the itunes window, but on songs that were missing artwork showed nothing in the get info box.  When I replaced the artwork by using the artwork command, or manually adding it into the "get info" window.  It was annoying but my iphone updated every album.

why not? use LiteIcon then. it's free and is MUCH safer than mucking with system files by hand. if you insist you can do it as follows. go to /system/library/coreservices. control-click on coretypes.bundle and select "show package contents". go to contents-> resources. change the file GenericFolderIcon.icns with your own .icns file. back up the original bundle first.

  • How can i extend the library of software instruments in logic?

    Hello!
I am working with logic express 8 and would like to assign software instruments such as clarinet and celli to the midi-files of my keyboard. Yesterday I couldn't find woodwind instruments in the library of logic so I started to download mainstage 2 - which seemed to extend the library of logic. But unfortunately some software instruments (for example cello...) disappeared and instead of extending my library in logic mainstage made it smaller... Can anybody help? And can someone tell my where do I get a clarinet and a cello? Thanks for your answers!
    Yours Judith.
P.S.: I thought about maybe I have to upgrade my version of logic express to logic studio? How can I do this and do I have to pay the full prize of logic studio then? Sorry for my nescience! :-)

  • How can I restore the library & files that were previously on my Nano?

Here's what happened... I hooked the Nano up to my computer at work to listen to it & charge it, but could not click on any of the music. Somehow I ended up with a prompt to "update the library" with a "yes" or "no" choice. I thought updating the library meant that the files on my Nano would create a list on the work computer's empty library so that I could play the files from my Nano. I did not expect it to transfer any files!!!! There was NO WARNING THAT IT WOULD ERASE INFORMATION!!!!! What then happened was horrible. The empty library on my work computer overwrote my Nano!!!!!! So now I have lost all of my files that I was planning to listen to on my flight to Spain tomorrow. I have been searching desperately to try to restore the files on my Nano, but have not been able to find an answer. I was planning to learn Spanish from the files on my Nano during my flight there! Now the Nano has wasted the money I spent on the Spanish CD's, the Nano and the ridiculously expensive & numerous separate accessories! This incident has really made me hate the Nano (which was given to me as a Christmas present). It has caused me nothing but pain & expense in buying junk for it and now trying to recover files without any good information on the Apple website! Why????? I thought Apple was user friendly before this Nano!

I'm sorry that you didn't read the manuals but that's the way it works:
Copying songs from your iPod to your computer
"The iTunes library on your computer holds all the songs you've encoded from your CD collection or purchased from the iTunes Music Store. With default settings, iTunes automatically copies the songs in your library to your iPod. When you use your iPod as a hard disk, you can't see the songs iTunes copies to your iPod in the Finder or My Computer. This is normal. Using the Finder or My Computer, you can't copy these song files from your iPod back to iTunes or to any other computer. The synchronization between your iPod and your computer is always one way: from iTunes to iPod.
If you've erased the music library on your computer, there's no way to use the Finder or My Computer to copy the songs from your iPod to reconstitute the library on your computer. One solution is to encode the songs from your CD collection again, then sync your new library with iPod. If you purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store and didn't back them up, there's no way to download them again. You'll have to buy new copies of the songs."

  • How can I view the number of messages in each folder

I have just installed TB 24.4.0 on a new Windows 8 desktop.
On my older Windows 7 desktop also running TB 24.4.0, the folder pane is configured to display the number of messages and space usage of each folder.
Both machines are set to the same "classic view" but I cannot persuade the new one to display the same folder statistics, only the count of unread messages.
Where can I find the option to do this?

  • I have never activated time machine and my entire iPhoto library is missing. How can I restore the library from the last back up??

I am using a MacBook Pro version 10.7.5.
Ive just noticed my entire iPhoto library is missing except for tonights last sync.
I have never activated Time Machine. I am worried if i activate it now, i would have no chance of retrieving my iPhoto library.
Can i restore the iPhoto library from the laptops memory? Or have i clicked the wrong thing while syncing, with no chance of seeing my life again?

I was distracted at the time and have forgotten but I thought it was something like "are you sure you would like to replace all photos on this divise for the ones in your iPhoto library" I was confident as both the comp and my phone have been together for years now.
Im questioning wether the iPhoto program had its own problem before tonights sync. Syncing photos is something i would do regularly without problems, but I've had about a six month break.
Luckily i have made some folders and copied photos out of the iPhoto program. iPhoto was my default photo program and had so many photos from my travelling.
Also I remembered Facebook syncs photos privately, I trying to go way back in time to see if there are any i can save there.
I respect your honesty, if you believe there is no way i can get the program back to normal just say so.

  • How can I organize the library under a "date of creation" file parameter?

Does anybody know if there is a way to arrange the iTunes library so that it shows up in the iTunes window with its songs organized with a “date of creation” of the file parameter? Among the “view options” there is a “date added” and “date modified” but no “date created” option. Thanks.

Yes, iTunes will "add" the file at the same time it "creates" it. In the event that for some
reason the library files are deleted or you reinstall OS X and therefore iTunes, then you will
encounter this problem. When you "add" the ripped music files that were stored in a
separate music-dedicated hard drive, these will indeed appear in the library as being
"added" that same day. I have a fairly large ripped CD collection that I started to "create" 8
years ago (first with Sound Jam and then with iTunes) and I got used to searching the music
in the library knowing that the files that were "created" 8 years ago were at the beginning
of the list and so on. When I moved from Sound Jam to iTunes in OS 9 and then to iTunes in
OS X I remember that somehow the "Date" option showed the files in the library in the same
exact order they had been "created".
Although I could delete all the songs from the library and then add each ripped file from
the iTunes Music folder back again into the library in the same order as it was "created", I
am looking for a less time consuming way of doing this.
When you click once on any file of any kind in the computer and then "Get Info", among the
information provided are "size", "created", and "modified". iTunes has included "modified"
and "size" among others but not "created" in the "View Options". I assume this is not because it is difficult to include but perhaps Apple does not find this option worthwhile.
