How can I make a transparent animated gif?

I'm using CS2. I have an animated gif that I want to take the black background out of so that the animated part of it is all that remains.
Here is a link to the image:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v97/tragicmike/random/Tesseract.gif
I basically want to remove all of the black background from the image so that the animated tesseract is all that remains. I know how to open the gif to expose the layers using ImaegeReady, then edit them in PhotoShop. But when I made the black areas of each layer transparent (by selecting the RGB channel, inverting the selection, and hitting delete), saved a copy, and tried viewing it, it seems to just display all of the transparent layers constantly instead of cycling through them.
Can someone please help me figure out how to make an animated gif with a transparent background? If I lose some of the black areas of the animated part (since they seem to get deleted when I remove all of the black background) it's no big deal. I just need to know how to do this so that it plays correctly.
Thank you!!!
Mike

<br />Well, George...the only reason I can think of is because it's an animated GIF, and GIFs only support one layer.
<br />
<br />Whatever application it was created in should have been able to render it out with a transparent BG. But I suppose the creator had his/her reasons for going with the black BG.
<br />
<br />(Full disclosure: I ran across
<s>that same</s> a similar animation back in December, and the version I grabbed only had the black showing through the inside of the tesseract. I opened it in ImageReady and
<b>
<i>added</i>
</b> a black BG so the edges didn't look jaggedy.)

  • How can i make a Transparent background in flash

I'm developing a web page for a small business I'm new to
flash, I have been trying to learn flash for a vary long time and
only recently had the time and resources to do it. I have
secsessfuly made the menu and actions to work how i wanted them to
so when you hover over the butten a drop down menu apears however
my problem is when i export this to the web page a white background
is present. i need it to be transparent so you can see the web page
under the flash menu. how can i obtain this effect?

In your publish settings, under the HTML tab is a dropdown
under "Window Mode". Select Transparent Windowless and hit publish.
It will generate all the needed code to do what you ask, copy that
and insert it into your desired page.
Basically learn from the flash generated example, its
properties in the embed code that have it set to "transparent".
Take a look at the source code on to see a live example.

  • How Can I Make a Flash Animation for TV?

I'm learning flash animation and am wondering once I save the flash file to a dvd format, how does the end-user navigate when they put the dvd into their TV? Do I need to design and incorporate a menu for the end-user? If so, how does the TV remote control navigate through this menu that was created on a Mac computer? Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.

I don't know a lot about this subject but thought I'd give it a shot to answer.  You can use Adobe Encore to create menu systems for your DVD title screen.  As far as Flash is concerned I think you can import your animations into Encore's menu system though I'm not exactly sure how.  If you want to just make an animation that will be played back without interactivity you would just export your Flash animation as a Quicktime MOV file and import it into After Effects for further editing and finishing.  Once you render your mp4 (h.264) from AE you can bring this into Encore to author for your DVD.

  • How can I make grunge transparent?

I am very new to Illustrator but have had a little experience creating artwork in Photoshop. In Photoshop, I created a t-shirt design where I used the eraser tool with a grunge brush to erase color in spots so that the color of the shirt was visible within the design where I erased. I am working on a new t-shirt design in Illustrator where I would also like to have this look, but the eraser tool doesn't seem to work the same in Illustrator as I am not able to select a variety brushes. Is there a way to add transparent grunge to a shape in Illustrator? I hope this makes sense...

Hi Cheryl, I am hoping you won't mind helping me out again. Like I said I am a complete newby and really only do this kind of artwork for a charitable beer festival I am in charge of organizing. This is the first year I am trying to use Illustrator instead of Photoshop, both of which are amazing programs.
I found a tutorial called Grunge Construction, by Gilles Landy, which is a very good tutorial and I believe is about the same process as you suggested. It seem to be exactly what I want to do, and I have tried to follow all the steps exactly as it says, but I can't get it to work for me. The funny thing is, the first time I tried to make grunge on a simple practice shape, it worked, but I haven't been able to get it to work since and I've tried like 8 or 10 times (even with just a simple shape).
There are a couple of steps that I'm not sure about, so I must have just gotten lucky the first time I tried. Here is a link to the tutorial with the steps I took and below are the questions I have.http://http://www.istockphoto.com/article_view.php?ID=127
All my questions are concerning the Illustrator portion of the tutorial in Step 4:
    1. Step 4 says to "combine the two images." So does that mean to open my logo and bring my grunge image into my file by using the "place" command? Is that the appropriate way, and do I place it in its own layer or do I place it on the same layer along with all my grouped objects (I have a number of layers to my logo). Also, is it safe to assume that the grunge should be placed on top of my grouped logo objects?
    2. Also, it says to "Select the image and go to select > arrange> send to back. Do you think it means to select my grunge image or my logo group? I think it means my logo group, but assuming my grunge texture is already on top, wouldn't the logo group already be in the back???
    3. I tried to select both the logo group and and the grunge to use the Minus Front in the Pathfinder palette, but I'm doing something wrong, because I don't get the grunge knock out, most of my logo gets completely gone.
I hope I don't sound too ignorant, but I feel I am very close to getting this. There is just something I am either missing or not doing correctly. If you can clarify it for me or would do things differently I would sure appreciate your expertise. Keep in mind I need some detail, though.
    Thank you!

  • Motin 5-How can i make a travel animation in a long image file (tiff 31978 x 576)

    Hello out there,
I am trying to make a travelling camerasequence. But have problem achieving any good result.
At the moment I am stuck with a pixelized image on the canvas.
Any hint or procedure will be highly welcomed.
    Thnx in advance

    ThanksGuys  for reaction,.
I managed to do the job using anime pro studio. Spltted the file in three smaller selections had no graphiccapacity problem there could even preview live. I was just anxious to try out the possibilities with lighting of motion. Also I made an attempt with keynote and no graphical problems there either with the three partial files.
It's never a ood idea to dive into new software when under deadline pressure, so I give it a more thorough try later.
I will make a documented survey of my endeavours.
    Thanks again.

  • How can I make a .gif file work in Keynote on my iPad Mini?

How can I make a .gif file work in Keynote on my iPad Mini?
Have saved a .gif file to my Camera Roll, and it works fine as I have checked it through mail. When I import it into Keynote however it won't animate. Even when I play slide. Any suggestions?

The can use apps such as Apple's Pages app for Word documents and Numbers for Excel spreadsheets, and from third-parties apps such as Documents To Go ('premium' version) and QuickOffice Pro HD.

  • Photobooth video saves in .gif. How can I make it save them as .mov or .avi? PLEASE HELP!!

For some reason photobooth movie recordings are automatically saved as .gif files by default. How can I make it change?
Please help me as I'm completely LOST!
    Thanks!!!!

The fastest way would be what you had been doing before (dragging the movie to the desktop.) Perhaps it was just a fluke and it's working again?
Otherwise, you can make an alias to the Photo Booth folder in the Finder's sidebar. Open the Pictures folder (same way as before) and drag the Photo Booth folder in the sidebar on the left under PLACES. Make sure when you drag it that you place it between two folders and not over a folder, like this:
^^ Good! (This will place an alias to the Photo Booth Folder in the sidebar)
^^ Bad! (This will move the folder into Documents)
The folder will now show up in the sidebar and you can click on that folder to bring it up. That should make it a bit faster to get there.
Have your sister try this: right-click (two-finger tap with the trackpad) on the movie file, then go to Open With > QuickTime Player in the menu. Perhaps that will get it to open? I'm not completely sure why it's not working correctly on her computer.

  • How can I make a warp/wave animation of my logo, and drop it into muse?

I have made a Logo that has a wave like feature to it, it is round, and I made and animation of it warping, rotating, and moving around the screen with After Effects. Now I have realised that after effects was probably not the right program to make a transparent animation which I want to place over a full page slideshow in Muse. I cannot seem to find the right effects in Adobe Edge Animation to create the same effect.
Any suggestions as to which program I should be using?
Or is there a way to export After Effects into Edge, or directly to Muse? (It needs to be transparent and on a loop)
Hereby a link to the animation:

  • Transparent Animated Gif in Keynote 9

    Hello,
I have been trying to insert some of my transparent animated gif in Keynote 9 with zero success. I have checked that the background of the file was actually transparent - it is - and I have attempted to use the Alpha tool - not working with gif images. Should I give up completely?
Previous posts on the subject have not provided any solution so I would immensly appreciate any further suggestion on this!
    Thanks!

You just need transparency in your file. Not sure if it has to be pre-multiplied. In graphic converter you need to remove the backgrounds. Haven't used GC in years so can't say how you can be sure it's gone but in Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects you can choose to have a checkerboard background to tell you when you are seeing 'thru' the image and by how much (the overall opacity or mask of the whole image if that doesn't confuse the issue).
If you are using PS images they will almost certainly generated with a set of rectangles including a perimeter cropping box and white background and these need to go either before it's bitmapped in a vector base app or the relevant pixels erased after it has been bit mapped in GC. As previously mentioned, if you have a unique bkgd colour, colour selecting/keying are some ways to do this). Much faster for >10 images to generate the plots without the bkgd but this may not be possible, what software is source material coming from?
I regularly bring in vector based moving art-work into keynote with alpha from Adobe AE, Apple Quartz and rendered .mov files. Some codecs (H.264) don't support a separate alpha channel (RGBA) but PNG (slow to render) and animation and a bunch of others do. Pre-multiplying removes the A channel in the RGBA (by multiplying the R/G/B by the A values) thereby speeding and making compatible with some GPUs/render pipelines.

  • How can I create an arrow animation for my map

    Hi all ,
I am new and would like to create an arrow animation moving to show a path on my map.
how can I show this arrow animation on my jpg image?
do I have to convert my image to gif first?
do you have any tutorial for this so please show me.
it would be better to be a step by step so I can better underestand each step.
    Iam using fireworks mx2004.
    thanks for any help.
    Regards

The JPEG format does not support animation, so if you want to add a moving arrow to a map, you'd need to make an animated GIF or a Flash movie.
If your map is a large image, then adding the frames to make an animated GIF could make very big file and that wouldn't be good. Another thing to keep in mind is that a JPEG image can have millions of colors but an animated GIF can only have 256. If your map is a line art (a drawing), then usually the GIF or PNG formats give you a better result, anyway as the JPEG format introduces noise and color shifts which are normally not noticed on photographs.
I searched Google for "animated gif in fireworks mx" and this tutorial looks like it might be helpful:
    http://www.disdatdesigns.com/fireworks/animation1.shtml
In your case, you would share your map across the frames and each new frame would have a different arrow on it.
    Good luck!
