How can I make iCloud Drive sync?

Hi everyone,
I would very much like to use iCloud Drive but I can't get it to sync reliably. Last night I deleted 34 presentations from my iCloud Keynote folder on my MacBook Pro. This morning I booted up my iMac and the files were still there after an hour. Why were they not deleted when I started up my iMac? A few weeks ago I did a bigger experiment where I moved a number of project folders from the Documents folder of my home iMac to my iCloud Drive. Hours later on my iMac at work, most of the files were still not there (my work iMac is on all the time). I worked on one of the files, and when I got back home, it was not updated.
Any advice on how I can get iCloud Drive to work properly? I can't use it if it is this unreliable.
Gregory

That is not supported. iCloud Drive is not meant as a "remote only" storage or backup, its main purpose is to give you access to all your documents across all devices and to update the documents across all devices. The local shadow copies will ensure that you have access to your document, even if you are not connected to the internet.

Bought a new Ipod for daughter for Xmas. How can I use ICLOUD to sync Itunes only to her IPOD and not everything else on my iphone etc?

On the iPod turn off iCloud for calender, contacts and other things (Settings>iCloud) and turn off automatic downloading for apps and books (Settings>Store).
Aldso go to Settings Messages and Facetime and add her own email calling/messaging address and delete the Apple ID calling/messaging address.

  • How can I make a drive bootable without losing data on it?

Is there a way to make a second internal drive bootable without losing the data that is already on it?
The second drive was created under Panther 10.3.9. My main internal drive has had a clean install of Tiger 10.4.3. The second drive used to appear in the start up disk list when I was running 10.3.9 on the main drive. That is, it used to be bootable under 10.3.9. No kidding. After the main drive was given a clean install of Tiger, the second drive disappeared from the start up disk list. Please note: the second drive remains completely accessible when I am running off the main drive in 10.4.3. I can even use the few applications I had placed on the drive. It appears as separate drive under disk utility.
I assume the second drive was installed as slave. (Both it and the main drive were independently bootable under 10.3.9.) It is not locked. "Ignore ownership" is not checked. The system has read-write privileges. Admin has read-write all others are read only. I am the only person who has access to this machine. It is not networked.
I tried to ask this question a few days ago, but I think the way I phrased it confused the issue. My real question is NOT how did this get like this? It is can I make a drive bootable when it already has data on it?
    Thanks
    G4 Panther & Tiger   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
    You replied:
    the drive that you cannot
boot from is a separate physical hard drive from the
internal drive with 10.4.3. Is that correct?
    Yes.
Have you used System Preferences > Startup Disk and
looked to see if the 10.3.9 system shows up there?
Yes, I have looked and it's not there.
I got the impression that you have backed up the 10.3.9
disk and that you do not really need the data there.
Yes, I backed up a drive that was bootable, but then it lost its "bootabilty" and what I got was two non-bootable drives--the original second internal drive that I'm asking about and the back-up of it. I want the data on the drive and I wan the drive to be bootable.
One thing that you might try when you are booted off
your 10.4.3 system is to use Disk Utility, select the
other disk and do a Repair Disk.
Done that and it says there is no problem. Nada. Zero. It just won't boot, no more, no how, no way. BUT it remains fully accessible--I can access all my info. It's just become a storage drive that cannot be booted. Go figure.
    reformatting means
destroying the data on the disk.
Yup, which is why I asked my original question. Does anyone know if there is any way to make a drive bootable without destroying the data on it?
I suspect the answer is no (given these particulars), but I thought some wise super-techie out there might have a trick up their sleeve.

  • How can I use iCloud to sync to just my account on my iMac and not to my husband's account?

I have an iMac using OS X 10.7.5.  I have separate accounts for myself and my husband.  I also have an iPhone and an iPad.  How do I get iCloud to sync my account with my iPad and iPhone without syncing with my husband's account on the iMac?

If you are  using the same AppleID you cannot, just create seperate AppleID's and you should be OK.

  • How can I make my iPod sync automatically?

When I first got my iPod I chose for it NOT to sync automatically but I should have. I have no idea how to get back to those settings but want to change it so it syncs on it's own. I've read a few topics here and noticed stuff about Summary tabs but the thing is, I have nothing like that on mine, I have no setting options whatsoever. I tried registering my iPod on here to see if that would do something but the thing is, it asked for payment details but I don't want to pay for anything. I don't use the iTunes store to download my music, I transfer it from another downloading software.
So, my question is - how do I make my iPod sync automatically and how do I find these 'settings' that everybody else appears to have?

No it doesn't. Instead I have a screen with a picture advertising 3 different iPods.

    Unbelievable.
I've been battling this problem for months, just like thousands of other people. I check back every so often, thinking someone will discover the magic fix or that Apple will update iCloud. No joy.
Clearly Apple has no intention of allowing iCloud to sync with Outlook's normal calendar or they would have fixed it by now. I can't imagine what their motivation is, but it's preventing Outlook users from adopting iCloud.
The workaround I've used for almost a year now is to replace iCloud with Google Docs and then install the gSyncIt plug-in to Outlook. My iPhone syncs with Google Calendar and Google Contacts fairly cleanly, and Outlook syncs with them as well, so it's more or less equivalent to what iCloud should be doing.
Shame on Apple. Anyone who says iCloud syncs with Outlook has obviously never used them together.
iCloud does not sync contacts or calendars with anything, not Outlook and not iCal, it is a subscription, and (except for Outlook) it can be the default (try EMClient on Windows)
It was Microsoft's decision to make Outlook the way they did, ask them to make the changes you want, or more sensibly, use Microsoft Exchange rather than iCloud, Outlook will allow that to be the default.

  • HT201232 how can I stop icloud drive from upgrading?

iCloud drive has been updating almost 2 days or longer on my 5s.  How can I stop it from upgrading so long?
I was having a problem with not being able to swipe pages and opening apps for almost 3 weeks, so I downloaded iOS 8.1 to see if that would help but it didn't and now the icloud drive won't stop updating on my 5s.  I unclicked icloud on my laptop and backed up to my computer but that didn't stop iCloud updating on my phone, I've also reset my phone and that didn't help.

The problem is that should iCloud Photo restart, say, through a computer restart, the problem starts all over again. Apparently removing the photo from iPhoto did not do the trick.
Did you delete the corrupted photo from its event and from My Photo Stream as well? Have you deleted the photo completely by emptying iPhoto's Trash and the System Trash?
You could also try to delete the photos from the folder ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub/
That will remove the temporary copy of "My Photo Stream" on the Mac from the user library.
The user library is hidden by default. To open the hidden User Library:
    Use the Finder's "Go" menu.
Click "Go", then hold down the options key, until you are seeing "Library" in the drop down menu appear and click it.
In the Finder window that will open navigate to the folder ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub/.

  • How can I make my iPhone sync with iCal on my Mac and not with iCloud?

I live and travel in Africa and wi-fi is frequently a luxury.  iCloud syncing between Mac and my iPhones (a 3GS & 4) is not possible but when I turn iClod off, it deletes the calendar on my Mac.  In another forum it was suggested that you export your various calendars (personal, business etc) to the desktop, log out of iCloud and therefore have your iCal calendar deleted, re-boot to clear anything in the cache, import the calendars which are then on My Mac and sync.  It worked all the way until the last bit.  Syncing the iPhone is clunkingly slow and it only syncs one of my calendars which is the only one that appears in the info dialogue box in iTunes when the iPhone is connected.  Can anyone help?  iCloud is I am sure fine for those who have regular access to wi-fi but not me - I will be happy to go back to my time capsule which has done me well over the years.
    Some advice please

Plug yr iPhone to your compu in the old fashioned way with cable.
Just to cover yourself...select the iPhone in Devices of left pane of iTunes window, then on main pane, select radio button Back up to Computer. Right click on the iPhone in devices, do a backup. It shld then be on your compu'.
Then, back in main windo, select Info 'tab' from top of the right pane, and tick the Sync iCal events.
    I'm sure this will help.
If it all goes pear-shape, u have the backup to restore the pre-sync device.

  • How can I get iCloud to sync between iOS 6.1.3, OSX 10.6.8 and OSX 10.8.3?

I am running both OSX 10.6.8 and OSX 10.8.3 on my iMac with iOS 6.1.3 on my iPod Touch.
Everything is checked ON in the iCloud settings where those are available, in iOS, OSX 10.8 and in iCloud.com on my OSX 10.6.8 system.
I either get no synchronisation, or a duplication of events. Apple Store Events which need to be clumsily downloaded from the website, double clicked on and hopefully added to Calendar, only randomly appear and rarely get announced. I can't see a pattern to anything.
It currently won't sync between iCloud.com and Address Book, Calendar etc on the Mac let alone with iDevices (my wife has an iPad as well), despite partially syncing previously.
It is erratic, obscure and totally unreliable as well as being a huge waste of my time.
If I follow the iTunes instructions as well as the iCloud.com instructions generally nothing happens.
In the Advanced pane of iCloud.com settings, I have selected the “In-app notifications” checkbox, and Saved. Doesn't work. Then I unselected and saved and closed iCloud.com. Then checked it all over again, still doesn't work.
According to the settings it says it is sharing with the iPod Touch, but nothing happens.
Previously a few events appeared belatedly at some later time, often after the event they were supposed to announce. Currently nothing is syncing.
Most frustratingly I can't sync my Address Book/Contacts so have to manually include all the contact info in all my individual devices and systems.
Has anybody got a surefire method of making the sync happen?

That's correct but your 10.6.8 machine has no way to put it there unless you manually enter it on the website.
That to sync data from iCal and Address Book in Snow Leopard to the iCloud server you must manually register and connect to the iCloud.com website which I have done.
You can't sync from Address Book or iCal in Snow Leopard.

The syncing to the same data in Mountain Lion is done via the System Preferences > iCloud, which I have done.
Supposedly that means the data on the iCloud server is then shared between the iPod Touch, SL and ML, but it is not.
Because data entered on the SL machine never makes it from iCal or AB to iCloud or from iCloud to AB or iCal, the link breaks there.. You can use a 3rd party app (Soho) and use it instead of AB and iCal.
But the problem exists on ML as well.
I get only some Contacts and iCal events transferring.
What you are seeing is probably from SL account which I use 95% of the time. Particularly my Address Book entries. I hardly entered any of those in ML, they virtually all come from SL and seem to have transferred previously. Possibly before the latest iOS updates, but I can't swear to that as I didn't check before/after.
The vast majority of my Address Book entries appear in both iCloud.com and my iPod Touch, but not my latest changes.
This is far from the "It just happens!" promised by Apple.

  • How can I get iCloud to sync with Outlook 2011 calendars??

Recently got a new MBA11 and use an iPhone and rely heavily on Outlook. All I want to do is be able to sync my calendars and contacts across devices. When I used to be on Windows I could simply do this with Google Calendars and Google sync.
Outlook 2011 isn't or doesn't support syncing with google (not sure who's fault this is).
I thought iCloud would fix this however iCloud creates new calendars in iCal that won't sync with Outlook.
Does anyone know a work around?
Personally I would have thought this kind of thing would be simple, easy and a necessary function whether it be on google, apple or microsofts part!!

Microsoft have not made Outlook for Mac compatible with iCloud since they haven't bothered to include support for the industry standard CalDAV and CardDAV protocols iCloud uses.
    See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2648915
Apple cannot do anything to rectify this, as they don't make Microsoft Office. It is in Microsoft's hands.
It wasn't necessary to buy Office for Mac to sync with iCloud. All Macs come with all the applications required for syncing with iCloud for free.
Use Apple's Mail, Address Book and iCal.

  • I am using my Apple ID on multiple devices for other people. How can I make icloud work only for my devices?

I am using my Apple ID on multiple devices for other people in my family and now I am getting a new iphone and want to take only the information on my old iphone to the new one without the information on the other devices using the same account. Is there a way to do that?
Also, for the future can I use multiple addresses and apple IDs for the same credit card information?
    Thanks in advance,
    Marian

Ok, so you want to remove data (contacts, bookmarks, calendar etc) from other users from your iCloud/Apple ID?
If you want to use your ID for your family because it is the account everybody uses to buy stuff then you only need to ensure that your apple ID is set up in the store (settings-store) and then the users of each device and put their own apple ID in icloud/message/facetime/etc.
To set up your device, in my opinion, it is best to back up to itunes, and then plug your new device into itunes and "set up as ..." and select the backup from your device.  This will import all your data/settings and your new device will be set up just like your old one.
I am not certain about using the same payment method for more than one account.
