How can I make mp4 videos play in Firefox?

YouTube works fine. Other websites play videos, no problem.
But then I'll go to a website and see a message that the video is either corrupt or is not supported.
When I search for how to play mp4 in Firefox I end up at this site:

No, it ****ing doesn't!
A bit frustrated, because everywhere I look for help on this, I either come across pages saying it should work, Firefox supports mp4 etc, OR forums where it's webmakers asking the question and then the solution is something wrong in their coding - which doesn't help me, the lonely end user.

I get the error message: Video can't be played because the file is corrupt.
No, it's not. I can download it and play it on WinAmp.

I get the error: No video with supported format and MIME type found.
Huh? Again, I can download and play it fine.
But Firefox won't play it.

Is there a fix in the wind?
Is there something I can tweak or change to make Firefox recognize and play this stuff?
Is there a plugin/extension/addon that I need to download to play mp4?
If this is a known problem that is going to be fixed eventually, is there something I can do as a substitute (ie a plugin for now)?
Because it seems like the only alternative is to abandon Firefox and start using Chrome, which has no problem with the above-mentioned videos.

I have win7 home, firefox 35.0.1. Java but no other add-on/extension that matters.

Try running firefox in safe mode and see if it works

    If you don't have one already, make a smart playlist for Music Videos with the parameter "Media Kind" is "Music Video".
    Then, find all of your music videos, select them all, and make sure that their media kind is indeed set to "Music Video" and not something else like "Movie" or "TV Show". You can do this by select all of your music vids, right click them, click Get Info, go to Options and find it there.
    Now you should have a playlist which has all of your Music Videos, and will automatically update as you add new music videos. Like any other playlist, if you play one, the item in the playlist will automatically play right after the conclusion of the previous one

    You just need to look in Help for the Sound class and possibly SoundChannel... if you have an MP3 in your library - right click it, and go to properties. Set the sound to export for ActionScript - and give it a class name - mySound will work. Then you can make it play with something as simple as:
    var a:SoundChannel = new mySound().play();

    ok but how I dont want to create webserver. I mean I can't affort it at this stage of my education. I can afford a webhosting. there are lot of opitons for webhosting are availabe. I can buy one for me. But I want to know what features of java or anything else should be available on that server. 2nd is what do u mean by socket programming. I understand http programming.     I have a PPT slide presentation that has embedded MP4 videos (captured using SnagIt) in the presentation. When I import and convert, all my PPT slides convert with animations intact, but the videos are not playable and appear only as a 'static' slide.... I'm messing around with the trial version of Captivate hoping it can do what I think it can (like what I just described here) and am trying to cost-justify the purchase of this package to my management team -but I have to make sure it can do what we want it to do first - so far, no good - but I think I'm probably just missing something...any tips or suggestions?

    Basically you play the presentation and use Captivate to record it. Camtasia operates that way with PPT.

    Seriously, it's fully rendered. I'm not an FC ace but I didn't just start using the program. It just happens that this is the first video I'm editing that has both wide and standard aspects. I'm telling you that when I try to export in 16:9 (as in QT conversion, picking a 16:9 output) the 4:3 part on the timeline says it's unrendered, but only while the file/location box is up. If I back out totally the red line goes away. If I go ahead with the export I get a green screened mp4.

    Or another way is by selecting the ringtone  Go to itunes songs you own and right click the song you want as your ringtone. Scroll down to where it says create ringtone. Then a window will pop up thats lets you select from where to where you want the ringtone in the song. You can get from 5 sec to 30 sec. but remember the song should have been bought from the app store. then it is possible.

    There are two ways to do this.
    1. If you have it, use iMovie HD6. You can put all of your movies into one project, and add chapter markers at the beginning of each movie. This will allow you to play your movies straight through or select the individual movies, like a scene selection.
    2. You can use iDVD instead. Check out this post by Old Toad on how to use this method.

    Picture in picture - is no a standard option in any version of iMovie.

From the Scaled Size pop-op menu, choose percent. Then type 50 into the first box. If Preserve Aspect Ratio is turned on you won't need to type 50 into the second box. You have made the pasted footage appear at one quarter its original size. The inset is now hugging the top-left corner of the Main Clip. If you want, you can type numbers into the Offset Boxes to shove it away from that corner (there are 72 pixels to the inch).
    If your original Main Clip was required in 16:9, unclick (de-select) Preserve Aspect Ratio, and type in the relevant numbers in the two boxes, in Video Track 1.
    PAL (for Europe):
    Standard DV (4:3) 788 x 576
    DV Widescreen (16:9) 1050 x 576
    NTSC (for the USA):
    Standard DV (4:3) 720 x 528
    DV Widescreen (16:9) 874 x 480
    This will not affect video track 2, but if that is also wanted in 16:9 repeat for that track.
    You can superimpose, 3, 4, or more such 'overlaps' on the same clip, and spend a happy afternoon tapping away for each track in the Offset Boxes until you have got them all in the right place! You can even overlap them, if you can remember (or note down - hire a secretary to take notes) which track you want on top etc.
    Save the completed QT file. Import the completed file into a new iMovie project. Import this into the original iMovie project, substituting the old clip you copied to QT as Main Clip for the new fancy clip you have made.

    that FCE is a real bargin.
