How can I make my iCloud email my default email on my apple ID?

I made a icloud email with my apple id that a created with a gmail years ago. I want to make my @me email my defult one, and my secondary the gmail one, basicaly stwich the two.

I'd like to do the same thing. I don't use my gmail address anymore and would like to only use my me.com address.
My account website give me the option to change my primary email adress to the new one:
"Make your Apple ID and primary email address one and the same.
Your Apple ID will be easier to remember, and your account will be easier to access and manage.
Change your Apple ID and primary email address to:"
But it doesn't let me change my actual Apple ID email adress. When I try, it says:
"You cannot create an Apple ID using a MobileMe account. If this is your email address, it is also your Apple ID."
Except it's not a MobileMe account. It's an iCloud account.
And what's even more weird is I can use my me.com address to sign in to my account. Actually, it'll let me use both the gmail and the me.com address to sign in on the website, in iTunes, the Mac Appstore, everything.

Go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars and look in the Mail section. If you have an icloud account listed there, just delete it.

Did you simply change the primary email address of your existing AppleID at
https://appleid.apple.com/
Or, did you create a new AppleID. If you created a new AppleID, then you cannot. All you can do is use the iCloud with the old AppleID, or create a new iCloud account with the new AppleID.
If you changed the primary email address of the exisitng AppleID, you may need to uninstall the iCloud account on the iPhone and reinstall it to get it to use the new email address and password (you won't loose anything, its just there a means of resetting the cached credentials associated with the iCloud account).

I don't really understand iCloud, but I have an Apple ID since both my kids are underage (8 and 11). They share my Apple ID, but have different Ipods. Can/Should I have separate iCloud emails for them? To recap, I have 1 Apple account, but have 2 kids, a boy and a girl. To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted. If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

I have the same problem. For years I have been able to delete emails from my ipad and have them remain on the server so I can deal with them on the desktop. Now they get deleted from the server when deleted from the ipad, which makes the ipad unless for reading mail.
You answered to delete the email account on the ipad and set up a new one as a pop. I have made many attempts to do that in the incomping mail server "Host Name" field but it always errors out even when the host name is equal to what my desk top has. So I can see no way to change away from IMAP. I started with an ipad 1 and now have an ipad 2.

Also, I am having to deal with a good portion of daily tasteless spam content at the original @me.com address. That's definitely not supposed to happen. You shouldn't have someone else's iCloud email linked to your ID.
You'll have to get iCloud support to sort this one out. The only way to contact them is to start here: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/. You'll have to provide your iPhone serial number. Unless it's within the 90 day free support window, or you purchased AppleCare, there will be a charge. I suppose you can plead your case when they answer that you shouldn't be charged as you didn't set up this address and it shouldn't have happened with your ID.

If all you want is an additional email address you can create up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account.
You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account, move it to another account, or reactivate it if you delete it.

That's Activation Lock. You will need to remember the Apple ID and password you used to set up the phone.
If you can't remember them, you can go to iforgot.apple.com to try to recover the information.
If you are the original owner of the phone & have proof of purchase, you can try calling Apple to see if they can assist also.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

How can I access my iCloud email on my iPad? ICloud is functionnal with everything else (calendar, contacts, etc.), but I can't seem to get my me.com emails in my Mail app.
I can get my emails through iCloud.com and the mail app on my iMac, but not on my iPad on IOS 5.1.1
I went through every menu in Settings and can't seem to find the problem...

Mail syncing IS enabled at settings >iCloud. But I don't see my me.com account in the list of accounts under Account >Mail, contacts, calendar>settings.
There is a item named iCloud (that includes email, contacts, calendar and others), but there is still nothing that appears in my mail account...
