How can I make my network attached storage transfer speed faster?

I have a problem....I recently purchased a my book 3tb because it was on sale. I got home and plugged it into my AirPort Extreme(5th gen) and partitioned the my book into separate drives for each of my family members. The my book came with a usb 3.0 cable so I plugged it into the USB port on my airport extreme(which is a usb 2.0 port). I wanted it mainly for time machine which the my book supports. When I set up time machine and begun a back up, I was really disappointed. It was going to take 9 hours to back up 100gb of data that's ridiculous! I hard wired my MacBook Pro with Ethernet to see if that would help....nope still took 9 hours. That's roughly 3 mb per second. When I plugged the drive directly in my computer it was only going to take 35 minutes for 100gb or 47mb per second....(much better). So how exactly can I speed up the transfer process to my drive when it's plugged into my network? I would like to get if I can at least 20mb per second when transferring. Thank you!

When I turn the apple computer on and Open Finder or Forklift I can see both the Airport Extreme and the WD Live Duo Nas drives. When I click on either one in finder it can take up to a minute to see the shares and another minute to mount the shares then a few more seconds to see the contents, once they are visible they can be accessed read and written to quickly as you would expect from a network drive.
In Forklift this process is reduced to about 5-10 seconds much better than finder but even forklift won't reconnect at login.
When I turn on the Windows 7 machine the mapped network drives work and data are attached immediately available, almost instantly as you would expect any network drive to work.
When I turn the Apple computer on The Airport Extreme folder and the WD NAS Shared show in Finder and Forklift but I have to again go through the process of mounting the shared drives again with the same long timeframes applying. I have not been able to find anything in Forklift to have the shared folders reconnect and be ready for use automatically.
I have tried putting the shared drives into user login items but while this works it opens the folder every time and I then have to close them until I need them a most unsatisfactory arrangement.
Am I missing something, or is it just too bad its a mac?

Can one connect a Network Attached Storage device (Western Digital My Book Live) directly to the iMac via an ethernet cable to speed up the transfer rates? It would only be a one time deal to import all of the data from my device onto the iMac, then I would attach the NAS back to my network.

How can I make Premiere Pro handle Live Text Templates faster?

Currently I have a an After Effects Project that is setup as a Text Template. When I render out the "template" composition in AFX, it takes 8 seconds. The same composition through Live Text in Premiere Pro takes 34 minutes. This comp is 6 seconds, and I can't for the life of me explain, or fix, the time difference... After Effects multi-frame processing is turned off, so that shouldn't be the issue... I'm at a lost... I don't mind rendering my titles out in After Effects, but it is much more convenient in Premiere Pro as the text fields are all in the same place.
My computer is a custom Windows 8.1 Pro running Premiere Pro and After Effects CC 2014.1 with 64GB of RAM, a NVIDIA GeForce 680 2GB, and an Intel i7-3960X 3.30GHz processor. I've noticed that when PPro is attempting to render, its task in the task manager never goes about 5% and the AfterFX one it creates never goes above 10% CPU usage. The two applications also don't use much RAM, though I don't suppose they should need a lot seeing how it is a 6 second comp... But none the less, I've allocated 58GB to the Adobe Suite through the AFX preferences dialog.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

If you install Pacasa, you can set up Picase to that all you have to do is click on a button to automatically import the photos into a dated-today folder. You can also configure it to automatically delete the imported photos after importing.

Using a ethernet external Maxtor Hard Drive (Network Attached Storage)

Does anyone know if I can use a NAS (Network Attached Storage - in this case a 1 Tb Maxtor external drive with ethernet connection) and have my iMac G5 and Macbook backup to this drive on the same ethernet segment using Time Machine ? (both computers and the Hard drive will be connected through a router).

This used to be a suggestion often given in this forum when TM was new - but you rarely see it now. I've read posts for users who found the suggestion worked, but in time they would report that the methods eventually failed. I don't know whether anyone has had long term success.
One problem with using a NAS, you may not be able to do a full restore using the install disk when the TM backup is on a NAS. I use a Mac Mini as a file server and its external disks are used as TM destination drives for other macs in the house. This works and is supported by Apple since the server runs Leopard (the only way to provide a backup over a LAN, not including the new Apple Time Capsule). However, when doing a full restore, I have to detach the drive that is on the Mini and attach it to the source mac. Having done full restores several times, I was unable to access the LAN based mac to get to the TM backup. It has to be directly attached. So, if your NAS can't be attached or if it's not the right format (and NAS devices are rarely formatted HFS+), you won't be able to full restore, which is an important consideration.

How can I use Time Machine with my existing network attached storage drives

I am a new mac user switching over from windows and have an extensive amount of existing equipment including 2 network attached storage devices (Buffalo Technologies). I would like to use these with Time Machine, but can not figure out how to do it. When I enter time machine setup it does not show these drives while the Finder does.

As of right now we are all SOL unless you own a Time Capsule. At the very least I wish apple would offer some kind of trade-up if they are not going to release a software update.
It really doesn't make any sense why we can't do this with a standard AEBS. Any fix should just be a matter of software, and while technically apple covered its butt with that little "subject to change" disclaimer on the leopard preview page, pulling it at the last minute and expecting those who believed their advertisement to buy another device that does the exact same thing for more money is just wrong. Give us a break apple, tell us your at least working on a fix, its the right thing to do.

I am using a QNAP NAS with SMB network shares, which I mount with OS X Mavericks. They are not searchable, as far as I know because of the indexing of network share is by default not activated.
To force the OS to index them I activated this via mdutils. But this is no solutions. This makes spotlight to index the share once. But I want spotlight to index it always and keep it up to date. I have a huge amount of documents & fotographs, which is very difficult to manage without being searchable.
Unfortunately the only solution I found in the www was the mdutils-way, which seems not to work, maybe only works not for me.
I would appreciate any assistance,

I have used the mdutil /Volumes/name -i on, and it seems to work.
But, if I understand it correctly, it is a one-time indexing -- the index is NOT keep up-to-date with changes.
So, how can we keep the index up-to-date?
My thought was to schedule a Terminal file to execute each night with the mdutil code.
Would this work? If so, how would you setup a scheduled run?
Would it have to be done on each Mac that accesses the Share?

Purchasing additional storage only applies to iCloud, not to the phone itself. You cannot purchase additional storage for the phone, only purchase a larger capacity phone. If you have deleted all of the content that you can, then that is all of the space that you have. What is it exactly that you are trying to do? Does this have to do with space for performing an OTA update of the iOS?

The problem is that all services are bundled with your Apple ID ([email protected]):
Your iCloud account (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Notes, Backups, etc.),
also iTunes & App Store purchases (Music, Movies, TV Shows, etc.),
and the iTunes Match services.
(I guess that all your devices - yours and your wife's are connected to one iTunes library, right?)
If you want that your wife gets her own iCloud account for Mail, Contacts, Calendars, etc. but gets also access to your media then you have two set up two things on her device:
iCloud (Settings > iCloud) with her account (e.g. [email protected])
and
iTunes & App Stores (Settings > iTunes & App Stores) with your account (e.g. [email protected]).
In this case she gets access to your library and could use the same iTunes Match account.

How can I make my computer only recognize my network and not that of one of my neighbors? This is for when I am at home, and everytime the computer goes to sleep it essentially loses the connection, only to pick up my neighbors network when it is awaken.

You can make your network the preferred network.
 > System Preferences... > Network > Advanced... > Drag your preferred network name to the top of the list.

Did you try to rename one of them? iTunes: How to rename your device
iTunes remembers the settings for each phone when you sync, even if both phones are called "My iPhone".
So make sure to set it up like you want to, after that iTunes will do the rest.
