How can I make photos Black and White?

I took a few pics using photo booth on my mac. How can I make them black and white after the picture was already taken? Thanks! (I have the most updated OS X)

Go into iPhoto's edit mode and click on the Effects button at the top.  Then select the B/W option in those that are listed.

  • How can I color a black and white imported jpeg?

I am new to Illustrator, and have been watching MANY videos, but just cannot seem to figure out how to color the B&W photo I imported into Illustrator CC. Do I need to do something in Photoshop first? Am I missing a step? I was able to trace the image but from there I am lost. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

How can I color a black and white imported jpeg?
In case you don't want to trace it first:
-> it needs to real Greyscale. Not just desaturated RGB
-> Do not save it via Save for Web in Photoshop.

  • Help! I  need to know how to make photos black and white from color and leave one thing colored.

I am a new user. I have elements 6. I really want to take pic of flower that i shot in front
yard and change it to black and white and then erase the b/w flower to reveal the true
color of the flower underneath. I have had mixed ways advised to me but not successful
any way i try. Help please!

    Hi,
You can use Smart brush.  From tools panel on the left, select Smart brush tool and select Black & White category and select any effect which you wish and start painting over the area to be changed to B/W.To edit your adjustments, you can select Detailed smart brush if you feel more comfortable in using brush than Quick selection tool.

  • How can I print in black and white only directly from apps on hp screen?

My printer preference from my pc is set to print in black and white from my computer. How do I set the same black and white settings from the HP Photosmart Plus printer, when printing directly from Apps on Home screen?

    Hello AdrianaSFleury,
At this time there is not an option or a default to set black and white only from the front panel of the printer. Some applications may give you settings in the Application itself for color or black and white but that would be the only place to change the color of the document/photo for your print jobs.

  • How can I create a black and white image similar to what I see in the "Replace Color" tool?

Hi all, I'm just wondering how I can create a black and white image similar to what I see in the preview window of the "Replace Color" tool. See attached screenshot for clarification -- I need the grass to be black while the soil is white or vice versa. Any tips?

One way is to use Select>Color Range
Make a new Color Fill Layer>White
    (Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color)
Put a new color fill layer below>black
Just invert the layer mask on the top fill layer for the opposite effect.

  • How can I print in black and white?

I have asked friends how to print in black and white and they show me how to do it on their computers. They do it by just switching the colorysync profile to black and white or greyscale but when I go to print and go to the same drop down menu for colorsync profiles, there are no other profiles.

First, as print dialog box functions vary with the Mac OS version, we need to know what version of the Mac OS you have. "iOS 5.0.1" in your profile is not a computer OS but rather for iDevices. Do "About this Mac" from the Apple menu to see what version you really have. It should be 10.something
Second: control of the type of printing is int eh hands of the printer software, Please post the both the make and model of printer you are using.

  • HP 8500 All-in-one printer - how can I print in black and white only (to save color ink)?

I want to be able to select the option of printing in black and white only to save color ink.  How can I do that?

What operating system? You can generally find an option for "Print in grayscale" and "Black ink only" in the Color or Advanced tab of the Printer Settings.
Some color ink will still be used to keep the printheads from clogging, see here for information.  (The Officejet 8500 is an IIC printer in the vocabulary of that page.)

  • How do I make a black and white portrait with piercing color eyes or red lips

I am frustrated thus far with this PS elements 10 and trying to get answers on the internet is frugal as I've come across a solution which doesn't assist me with elements 10. Please help before I return this product

Make a copy of your background layer by hitting Ctrl+J.
On that background copy layer, use the Smart Brush tool.  In the Options Bar for the tool, select the "Reverse Effects" effect, then its "Reverse Black & White" option:
Paint the eyes to get this:
At this point your layers look like this:
Ctrl+click on the mask icon of your reverse colour layer to select all the white area.
On the main menu bar, use Select...Inverse to invert the selection (so only the eyes are now selected).
In the Layers panel click the icon at the bottom to add a new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer.  This layer will be automatically masked to the selection of the eyes.
Adjust the saturation and lightness sliders:
    Your final image:
Your layers end up like this:

  • How do I get a black and white photo in Photoshop Elements 11?

I have a very old version of Photoshop, release 6 I believe.  In that release, I am able to use enhance/brightness and contrast, and when I slide the contrast to 100%, I get a pure black and white image of my photo.  I Photoshop 11, which I just purchased today, I am unable to get a pure black and white image, only grayscale.  I cut pictures out of wood, and it's fundamentally necessary that I can contrast pictures into pure black and white.  How do I do that in Photoshop 11?  The first screenshot is what I need in Photoshop 11, the second screen shot is the limitation I'm seeing in Photoshop 11.  How do I get a black and white photo??

(I edited this reply because I originally couldn't see the screen shots.)
There was a change made a few versions ago where Brightness and Contrast were improved so that they did not clip values so quickly. This was intended to improve how Brightness and Contrast worked for photographs, but it makes it work less well for purposes such as channel manipulations or printmaking.
In Photoshop there is a Legacy check box in Brightness/Contrast to make it work the "old" way when that is desired. It looks like that check box isn't in Photoshop Elements, which is what you're actually using. I'm not sure if there is a way to get the Legacy behavior in Elements, so you'll want to ask over in the Photoshop Elements forum.

  • Is there a way to color one thing in a black and white photo.  Example:  I have a picture of a tulip field and I want to make it black and white - which I have already done - but I want to make one single tulip red.  Help?

Is there a way to color one thing in a black and white photo.  Example:  I have a picture of a tulip field and I want to make it black and white - which I have already done - but I want to make one single tulip red.  Help?

No, you'll need an external editor for the job:
In order of price here are some suggestions:
    Seashore (free)
    The Gimp (free)
    Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
    Acorn ($50 approx)
    Pixelmator ($50 approx)
    Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate. You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • Make video black and white

I searched for an answer but was only able to find info regarding color pass. I simply need to know how to make my video completley black and white. I have tried dragging down different effects and turning down all RGB, chroma, gamma etc...but I can't find out how to do it. As a long time Premiere user, there was an effect that one could drag down and it would make the video black and white.
Please help me find a simple way to make video black and white. I'm using Final Cut Pro 5
    Thanks in advance!

AND-- you'll probably find you want to play with the contrast a little bit. Video is notorious for really not having all that much contrast range. It's the colors that fool the eye.
