How can I manage access to time capsule disc?

Hello,
I use Time Capsule disc to save my pictures and my Aperture Library.
The security of the shared disc is done with the peripherical pasword...
I have a problem and this is that Aperture trash do not have access to the volume disc so I cannot delete any file from Aperture because of an acess problem.
If I see the information of the disc (at the uper level) I can see that there is a forbiden access to "everyone" so I think that the problem is there. When I want to change the authorisations to everyone (to make possible to read&write) I get a message saying that I do not have the required autorisations...
Can anybody help me about this?

You need to login to the TC with main admin account.
Or reset the passwords.. do soft reset so you can change the permissions..
Security on the TC is more apparent than real.. press the reset and the files are unaffected but the permissions return to default.

how can i use the airport time capsule as a external hard drive?

Why do you recommend not place things like iTunes libraries or photo libraries on the drive? It was what I am looking for...
I suggest that you ask the experts over in the iPhoto Support Community about their opinions on placing an iPhoto or Aperture library on the Time Capsule....even if you plan to use a wired connection for your Mac and the Time Capsule.
But, if Terrence Devlin answers, be prepared for a lecture about why you should not ever do this.
If you place the iTunes library on the Time Capsule, be prepared for iTunes to give you messages about not being able to find the library.
In addtion, LaPastenague has the answer for you in a nutshell......corruption problems.
Bottom line....the Time Capsule is for your backups.....not "everyday" files and especially not libraries.

  • How can i ensure that the time capsule back up all my data?

how can i ensure that the time capsule back up all my data and no any data missed during the back up? becz i was backing up my mac to time capsule for the first time and it takes only 5 hourse for 279GB which is doesnt make sense
any idea, how to ensure that all my data been backed up

well this tells you why you are having issues.. since you have a filevault and unless you are logged on as that user TM has no way to backup the vault.
so that is why the backup is so small.
And you cannot remove the file vault because the disk is too small.. you are in catch 22..
You cannot backup and you cannot remove the vault..
Login as the user who has the file vault and copy the files off the computer to a directory on the TC.. Then just delete the files on the computer.. that will then allow you to remove the file vault.
But never  will I ever use file vaults so I am being theoretical .. please read it up yourself.
    http://pondini.org/TM/25.html
You are not doing the background reading you need to understand what you are doing..
read the whole of pondini's info.. or at least skim it so you know what is there.
Avoid like the plague file vaults..
When disks go belly up, as they always do.. your files will be lost. Somewhere they need to be stored in the clear.. so why bother .. put better security on the computer and forget vaults.

Heat up the bottom rubber mat with a hairdryer for 5-10 minutes to loosen the adhesive, then pull the rubber mat away from the bottom metal plate carefully.
Then use a screwdriver to remove the 10-12 screws to open up the case.

  • How can I restore photos from Time Capsule/Machine w/o getting lots of duplicates?

    Hi All,
I recently "lost" some photos and tried going into Time Capsule/Machine to restore them.  I went to applications, opened Time Machine, got the "Star Wars" like screen, scrolled to the appropriate date (I thought), clicked on that date, went to my user name, clicked on Pictures and then clicked on iPhoto Library.  It asked me if I wanted to create a copy called iPhoto Library2 and I said yes.
Next I clicked on restore and it began restoring my iPhoto Library from that day.  Unfortunately it created copy after copy after copy of each photo, hundreds!!  And it broke down each photo into faces. Again and again and again. Bottom line is that since I must have picked the wrong date my pics weren't there.
I decided to delete iPhoto Library 2 and there were some 130,000 items to delete.  Then it took about 24 hours to secure empty my trash.
So my question is how can I avoid this next time?  I really want to get these photos back but am afraid to try it again.
Thanks in advance for any advice!  They are of my 19 year old niece's visit to Australia so the pressure is on!
    Kindest regards,
    Becky

You might post this query on the iPhoto forum and perhaps someone there can provide an answer.
I tried this on my MBP and it seems that you have to restore the entire iPhoto Library.  What I did was put the current library in a separate folder on the desktop and then I restored the library from a prior date.  If you were to do that, you then could extract the desired photos and then delete the restored library.  Then place the current library back to the original location and import the desired photos.
Not tidy but it seems it will work.
    Ciao.

  • How can I set up a time capsule to extend my wifi network from a non-apple Medialink MWN-WAPR300N?

I just purchased a new Medialink MWN-WAPR300N from Amazon to replace my old 2008 500 GB Time Capsule.
I was wondering if it would be possible to use my old Time Capsule to extend the network from the Medialink router to the rooms in the back of my house. Would this be possible? How about if I use the Time Capsule as the primary point, and use the Medialink router to extend the network?
    Thanks!

The Time Capsule would not be compatible with a Medialink product if you are thinking of trying to use the Time Capsule to extend the Medialink network using wireless only.
The same would be true if the Time Capsule were the primary router, and you tried to use the Medialink product to extend the Time Capsule network wirelessly.
If you can connect the two devices together using a permanent wired Ethernet connection, then you should be able to accomplish your goal.

  • How can I set up my time capsule when I don't have access to our building's wireless router?

Our apartment includes internet but we do not have access to the router. We only want to use the time capsule to back-up our computer not as a wireless router. We have tried setting it up but the light flashes amber and it cannot set-up.

Cannot by ethernet for the first setup..put the TC in bridge mode and it should work fine.. There are a lot cheaper solutions to do this than a TC though.

  • How can I replace an old time capsule

I just bought a wireles printer. Is it necessary to hook it up to Time Capsule to share printing through out my house on multiple devices?

My TC is one of the first ever built. I am pretty sure it doesn't work for backing things up. It does do a good job as a router though. I was wondering if I should just continue with it as a router and use an online storage company? I really haven't a clue how to test it to see if it is indeed working. When I hit backup it says it is running but I have no confidence it is. If I enter Time Machine I see 1 years worth of stuff on my computer. Is that Time Capsule that allows me to see that? Or is it Time Machine? What is the difference anyway? Thanks for your reply abiout the printer. You made it very understandable
The TC always works, and has worked, for backing things up. They all have network attached storage in them. Time Machine is the software which backs up OS X, not a backup destination. The 1 year's worth of stuff is probably on your TC. To check, look where it says "shared" in the Finder and look for a picture of a TC, this is your Time Capsule which can be accessed from the Finder.
You could use an online storage company but backups will be very slow and space is limited, also it will end up more expensive than a new TC. Basically, I'd recommend a new TC (maybe the 2TB).

  • I can no longer access my Time Capsule disk

After upgrading to SL, I can't connect to the disk in my Time Capsule. It shows up in the Shared part of the Finder sidebar as usual, but clicking on it generates a gray bar that says "Connection Failed." On the right-hand side of this bar is a "Connect As' button, and clicking this gives an error popup that says: "There was an error connecting to the server “Wonderland”. Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you are unable to resolve the problem contact your system administrator." I don't know how to change the server name or IP address, and when I enter the IP directly from "Connect to Server" I get the same error message. Trying to set up the disk in Time Machine also gives the same error.
The odd thing is that the disk is visible in Airport Utility, which even tells me how much space is being used. "Enable file sharing" is still checked.
Any ideas what I can do?

Sad to report that unplugging and re-plugging the hard drive did not help. I had high hopes!
Un-mounting and re-mounting the external hard drive didn't help either.
I've moved on to deleting the time machine preferences per another suggestion in another thread - still no luck.
I continue to get the Making Backup Disk Available warning in the Time Machine Preferences window as the little progress bar spins for 20+ minutes. The whole time, I can hear the external hard drive clicking and chirping like it's being accessed- then the Time Machine preference window reports the same past warning: *The backup disk image “/Volumes/300GB BACKUP/myname’s Mac mini_00254bb40536.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error 109)*
Off to cruise some more forums for a possible fix - suggestions continue to be welcome!

  • How can I set up my time capsule as the primary base station with a centurylink router? I'm trying to extend my coverage, increase signal strength, and be able to connect a printer.

I recently moved and now I'm trying to set up my Time Capsule as the primary base station or router with an existing network that has a Centurylink modem/router. The TC still has the settings for my old network. I also have backups on it. I have the data backed up to another HD so it's not an issue to return it to factory settings if doing so deletes the back ups. Do I need to restore it to the factory settings to set it up? Also, what settings would I select on the TC (and the Centurylink modem/router) in order for the TC to serve as the router, instead of the Centurylink router? I want to be able to use the TC to back up my Mac's, print wirelessly, and improve overall performance. I tried setting the TC up and ended with 2 different networks. Can anyone please help me with this?

The TC has to plug into the existing modem router by ethernet.. you cannot use wireless.
You have a choice of which is router.. only if Centurylink agree to bridge their modem router.. this has to be done by the ISP and often they do not allow it.
Is your broadband cable or adsl or fibre or ???
If it is cable and you are allowed to purchase your own cable modem pick a pure modem version with no router in it.. plug the TC into it by ethernet.
Setup the TC in DHCP and NAT mode.. (depending on broadband type).
You must reset the TC to factory to do the setup.. no files are lost at all.
Here is my current recommended setup.. with Yosemite life has become harder than ever.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the laptop itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
    Tell us how you go.
Someone posted a solution.. See this thread.
Macbook can't find Time Capsule anymore
Start from the bottom and work up.. I have a list of good network practice changes but I have avoided Yosemites bug heaven.
This user has had success and a few others as well.

  • How can I manage access to dimension members in a layout?

    Hello,
I have a dimension member list of materials (400) on a "material" dimension. But some people have access to one portion of the whole group and others may have access to other groups. But the materials can be shared between groups so I cannot group them in differents hierarchies.
The problem is in the layout you need to select a hierachy to show various rows (the whole group of materiales). The layout shows all the list of materials. Even if the user only have access to 10 of them. I don't know how is the best way for presenting this to the user? It should presents only the 10 rows corresponding to his materials.
One way that I found (but I don't find it acceptable because of the hard effort that represents the maintenance) is to create differents member access profiles and denied the access to each material (dimension member - 390) that the user cannot modified. Then in excel I have to run a macro that hides all the rows that have an empty description in the cell of the material name.
    How can I achive this?
Is there a function in BPC to see if a user have access or not to a dimension member?
The only way to show in a layout various rows is to set in the view a hierarchy?
    Thanks & Regards
    SU

    hi
pl. verify whether this will suit your requirements:
    Material           UG1           UG2
    MAT1               Y
    MAT2                                 Y
    MAT3               Y
    MAT4                                 Y
    MAT5               Y               Y
Now UG1,UG2 diff user groups and property in Material. Assignment of Y is one time job.
At the time of accessing the dimension members can restrict on the basis of UG1="Y" or UG2="Y" property
Here MAT5 is common in both UG1 and UG2
(Hardly may have 3-4 set of users: Accordingly can have UG1,UG2,UG3,UG4 etc.)

  • How can we set up a Time Capsule to run on a Verizon FIOS network that's already set up with its own router?

We have a Time Capsule that we want to use STRICTLY as a backup device and not as a router, which the setup system seems to want to do.  We can't get beyond the option to switch the device to a new network, which we fear will disconnect a vital Internet connection.  Any ideas?

Once you click Update at the end of the configuration process in AirPort Utility, the TC light should turn green in 25-30 seconds.
Close AirPort Utility as soon as you see the message that the settings have been stored to the TC as the TC will "disappear" from the AirPort Utility window.
Once you have a green light on the TC, if you need to access the settings again on the TC, you can do so be temporarily connecting an Ethernet cable from your computer to one of the other LAN ports on the TC. Open AirPort Utility and the TC will appear.
If you don't plan to use the wireless on the TC to provide another network, it would be a good idea to turn it off to help prevent wireless interference issues with the other wireless network.
To do this....open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icon
Change the setting for Wireless Mode to "Off"
    Update to save the changes
