I was having some difficulty getting new photos to appear in My Photostream. Contacted Apple Support and she took me through a procedure that wiped out my Photostream pictures. She put me through to the next level of support who informed me that my Photo Stream pics were gone. My question is can I force my Camera Roll Pictures to My Photostream?

You can't. Photo Stream is real time only. Also it's important to understand that it is temporary storage. Oldest photos will be removed. So you should not count on it as a way to save important photos permanently. See: iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ

How can I manually set the Camera Roll to start at an arbitrary image number, i.e., IMG_0553.JPG?

I have an iPhone 4s, currently with iOS 5.1. I use it with my desktop computer which runs Windows Vista (and has the latest iTunes installed 10.6), and my laptop, which has Windows 7 and the latest iTunes. I use iCloud and Photo Stream primarily with the desktop computer.
Since receiving the iPhone on launch day, (Nov...14?, 2011), I've had to "Set [it] up as new" twice, most recently this morning.
After setting it up as new, the Camera Roll starts over with pictures at IMG_0001.JPG. That means, that, after my first picture after this latest reset, I'll have three pictures all initially named IMG_0001.JPG, and instead, I'll have IMG_0001.JPG, IMG_0001 (1).JPG, and IMG_0001 (3).JPG in my photo library. This robs me of the ability view my photos sorted by name, which is often the default sort order in my photo folders, and still see them chronologically. I can, of course, sort them by Date Created, but it would be more flexible if I could do either one.
Therefore, I'd like to set Camera Roll to start numbering its photos starting with whatever the next number higher than all the rest in my library would be, in this case, IMG_0553.JPG.
I can't just use Windows to go into the iPhone's Camera Roll and rename the first photo I take to be IMG_0533.JPG. The iPhone just doesn't allow tampering with the filename that way. Can I even count on Camera Roll to note the presence of the highest numbered file in its folder and then just name the next picture taken the next higher number?
Since I have no reason to believe that I won't have to reset the phone again, I'd like for whatever method I find to be one that I can use to set the Camera Roll to start at whatever other number I need when the time comes.
Suggestions welcome...
I have an idea that I'm about to try...I'll report back if it succeeds...
UPDATE: So what I tried to do was, with an empty Camera Roll, I uploaded a picture with the filename and number that I wanted (IMG_0533.JPG) into my Photo Stream, then saved that picture to my Camera Roll, hoping it would retain the file name, and then Camera Roll would just use the next number. That didn't work. It saved into Camera Roll as a brand spanking new IMG_0001.JPG.

To bring the solution into this thread, here are the consolidated solution bits from the other thread:
I installed i-Funbox and found the file referenced in that other thread ( iPHone / Raw File System / PhotoData / MISC / DCIM_APPLE.plist ).
That file has a section that I'm replicating below that is the part that that original poster edited, and is the part that needs to be edited for my problem also:

<integer>5</integer>
That other thread's original poster wanted his photos to start with 0001, so he set his "DCIMLastFileNumber" to 0.
I wanted my next picture to be IMG_0553.JPG, so I edited my file's 5 to 552.
I did that editing by first copying the file to my laptop (using the Copy To PC command), then opening it up in a text editor. I did the edit, then saved it.
After that, I used i-Funbox' "Copy From PC" command to copy the edited file back to the same location, hoping that the program would take care of any permissions, etc.
I had to do the Copy From PC twice.
On the first try, it seemed to copy just fine, but, for whatever reason, the copied file was empty when I opened it for verification. But I tried again, and that seemed to work (opened for verification, and it was as expected).
I then unplugged it, copied a picture from the Photo Stream to the Camera Roll, then plugged it into my laptop to verify the filename. It was exactly as I wanted: IMG_0533.JPG. Then, for fuller verification, I unplugged it, took a new picture, then replugged it in, and confirmed that the next pictures (I had HDR on) were IMG_0534.JPG and IMG_0535.JPG.
...and that's where I am. Nothing has crashed yet, too, which is all to the good ('course, I haven't done anything else with the phone yet).

Yes, I have tried restarting both devices, and no autosync is not working nor is is it providing the avaialbile option to select music in iTunes on my Mac to then sync. Please help. Thanks

Please disregard. I figured it out. Answer for anyone else running into this problem: You have to turn off iTunes Match on both devices. Apparently, if you activate iTunes Match it deactivates your abiltiy to direct sync.

How can I delete photos from camera roll to give me more storage

I Upgraded to an iPhone 4 from a 3GS (mainly because it was a 99¢ promotion). I have only a little over 1GB—maybe less—left and it doesn't have music on it yet. I figured my photos are the answer but can't figure out how to delete them from the camera roll. Any body out there know how?. Also other ways of getting more room on my 4? I know a 4s comes with more unless someone gives one away, or another 99¢ promotion comes along I can't afford it on a fixed income.

You could import the camera roll photos to your computer using your usb cable (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083), then put them in a folder and sync them to your other iPad by selecting the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing. (Note: they could only be deleted in the future by syncing them off again using iTunes. They can't be deleted directly on the iPad.)
Another option is to use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them between the iPads. That will transfer them to the camera roll on your other iPad.
Text messages could only be transferred to your other iPad by backing up the school one, then restoring this backup to your other iPad. (That would also transfer the camera roll photos.) However, that will replace the data on your other iPad with the data on your schoold iPad, which I assume you don't want to do.

How can I manually transfer album artwork from my library to my iPod

I downloaded album artwork to the songs in my library, and now I want to get the artwork onto the songs on my iPod classic. Problem is, I manually manage the songs on my ipod, instead of auto-syncing.... so when I hit the "sync" button in the latest version of iTunes (11.1.1.11), nothing happens. There also isn't a "show album artwork on iPod" button anymore. I'm afraid to change my settings from manual to automatic syncing, because I have lots of playlists on my iPod that aren't in my library, and I don't know if these playlists will be removed during the auto-sync. So how can I manually get the album artwork onto my iPod?

You can only backup iOS devices.
Sadly the old trick of removing all artwork and then adding it all back again no longer works. You may get some joy if you removed the specific album, then add it back again, butgenerally once things go wrong with artwork on a classic the only option is to restore it. Not a problem if all the media is in your library and you sync with a small number of selected playlists. If you don't have all the media see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

You can't. The way that I consider it to work is that you are effectively just creating a pointer to the photo in the new album (I don't think that the total number of photos on the device increases when you 'copy' them into new albums), so if you then delete the original photo you will also delete all the pointers to it.

It's easy to do in iPhoto11 (click on a photo in iphoto and select share in the bottom right corner, then select Photo Stream), I'm not sure you can do this on the iphone.

You cannot.
Camera Roll is temporary storage for pis taken with iphone. They should be imported regularly to your computer as with any digital camera. From there you can sort them however you like and sync them to the iphone.

How can I set up different camera rolls for my photos.

Right now all my photos are in one roll.
I'd like to be able to segregate them per event.

Camera roll is just one place pics taken with camera go. It is the holding area. You need to get them off the phone to your computer, you can then sync over folders of pics (held seperate from camera roll).

How can I manually transfer a song to a new device without turning iTunes Match off & on again?

I purchased a new cd & imported it into my iTunes library on my computer but I don't have access to amazing internet. iTunes match ran for two hours without managing to finish sending my library's information to Apple & so I still don't have access to my new album on any of my devices. The last time I turned off iTunes match to sync a song manually to a device I discovered upon turning it back on that iTunes apparently had to re-match my entire library from scratch which took days. Very not cool. Any suggestions?

If you wish to sync music to your iOS device via USB it is not necessary to disable iTunes Match in iTunes. You only need to disable iTunes Match on the iOS device and restart the device.
If the service is having trouble with the scan try restarting your internet modem and/or Wi Fi router.

How can I manually add photos on my iPad to photostream?

I must be missing something obvious because I can't find a way to drag existing photos from my iPad library to the photostream. These doesn't seem to be a path. I am hoping I don't have to email myself all the photos just to get them to my MacBook.

Photo Stream is for syncing NEWLY TAKEN photos across all your devices and computer. It's an ustomatic process, hence no real ability to addor delete from it.
To manage other, older photos transfer them to your computer photo application, then use iTunes to select which photos, events or albums you want on your iPad.

I used a third party programme called Mackeeper UGHHH,it moved loads of files to the trash now i do not know where they originally came from or belong!! the put back option is in grey??how can i manually put these files back where they belong?SO upset!!

hello there thank u so much for ur reply!! ok i uninstalled mackeeper now and the put back option is still in grey im so confused...i tried restarting my computer like u said and put back still in grey??!! the files that are in my trash are everything from Accounts,address book plug-ins,address book,adobe,aim.........then stuff like apple,Audio,....to caches color pickers,colors,com.apple.TCC,to DVD player to facebook,google to ilifemedia browser to itunes to keychains to movie effects,preferences printers to skype...my Native instruments files BUT not all of them my garage band but not all of it...it seriously looks like my whole library is in the trash i tried to put things back where i THINK they belong and it just added the item or folder under where i thought it went and didnt restore functionality to for instance google chrome and all my book marks are there....they seem to be only certain things from my library that would have added some functionality to apps and programmes like my garageband is missing stuff photobooth wont work so on.......kinda looks a bit like this thats only the half of it!! When do photos upload to My Photo Stream?
When you turn on My Photo Stream on your devices, all new photos you take or import to those devices will automatically push to your photo stream.
iOS devices: New photos that you take automatically upload to your photo stream when you leave the Camera app and connect to Wi-Fi. My Photo Stream doesn't push photos over cellular connections.
Macs: Any new photos you import to iPhoto or Aperture automatically upload when you connect to Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Or you can change your iPhoto or Aperture preferences so that only photos you manually add to My Photo Stream upload.
PC with iCloud Control Panel 2.1 or later: Open a Windows Explorer window and, under Favorites, select iCloud Photos if you're using iCloud Control Panel 3.0 or later (or Photo Stream if you're using 2.1 to 2.1.3).
