How can I migrate from one user to another within the same computer?

My main user account in my desktop is becoming buggy after to many migrations from different computers and long time usage. I would like to migrate from one user to another user within the same computer to see if this improves my current problems.
How can I do it in a reasonably safe and quick way?

iMAC, OS 10.6.8... and yes, I love Snow Leopard light and handy... and all my programs work on it...

Move small groups of files to the /Users/Shared/ folder or another location and see if the problems disappear. Moving everything to a new user account will in all probability transfer the problems.

We bought our Macbook pro about six months ago. We made the mistake of creating two users for it (my husband and myslef) but bow we only log in under my user name. The problem is we originally imported all of our video camera content to his "log in" and now it is in his imovie folder, and not mine. I want to make a movie on my log in with the fottage that we imported to his. So, how do I get video content from one users login on the SAME computer to the other log in users? You need to log into his account and look, under the Movies folder, for iMovie Events. Inside, you'll find folders with the events names and still further will be the movie itself. Copy each to an external media or use the Shared folder so both accounts can reference them.
Another option would be to attach an external HD and via iMovie (Events Library pane) move them to the new disk. You would preserve the thumbnails and analysis already performed on the videos.

I have created the recommended second user site on my computer.
Also I have Administrator user site on the same computer that I do not wish to use sometimes.
Both users are having the same Mozilla browser (win7) but the second user does not have bookmarks that the first user is having.
I am struggling already almost half a day by using all printed articles but WITH NO SUCCESS.
Please advise ma how to do it. I feel it should not be a big problem.

It can be tricky knowing how to locate and navigate between the different settings folders used by your different installations of Firefox.
To start, I suggest creating a folder that serves as a neutral location that Windows doesn't try to secure between users. For example:
C:\bmks
You can create a backup from the fully loaded copy of Firefox to that folder, then restore it into the empty Firefox. You've probably already found the procedures, but just in case, the following article describes both the manual backup procedure and the restore procedure:

If you have bookmarks in the newer profile that you do not want to lose, you can use an alternate export/import procedure using an HTML file. This doesn't carry over all the same information (e.g., tags). These articles have the details, and again I suggest using a "neutral" folder:

When you're done, you can delete the contents of the neutral folder for privacy.

Other way is u can use X as a reference object of Y so that both of them have same structure and both objects will share common database tables in BW which are exsting for X.

How can I move my DRM-protected movies from one disk to another on the same computer without running afoul of the big movie houses?

I need to off-load my digital copies to another disk I just bought, located on the same computer, so I can have more room for other things; my collection is getting too big, I guess. I'm afraid if I just move them and re-integrate them back into the iTunes library, it will mess up the DRM status and lock me out entirely. I'm hoping it won't treat this exercise as one of my allocated copies and increment the counter counting device transfers. Any ideas as to how to safely do this (without hacking, etc.)?

How do I move a playlist from one library to another on the same computer?

I have two different libraries on the same computer (a Mac mini), one family library and my personal library. I want to move my music from the family library to my personal library, so I put it all in one playlist. I am trying to figure out how to move (or copy) this playlist with all my personal music into my personal library. I have tried copying all of the songs in that playlist and pasting in the new library but that didn't work, it just simply pasted nothing. Any ideas? The playlist is rather large (around 650 songs,) but it seems like apple could manage this without me having to make small playlists. Thanks for any help!

i am having issues trying to copy some of my music from my itunes library to my wife's. we each have seperate accounts on the same computer(mac mini, os X). i am new to using the mac's, and have no idea of how to go about this. i have seen some stuff on using public folders, but i could not find mine, also used the sharing option under preferances, and that didnt work for me as well.... but like i said, i am new. if anyone could please help that would be greatly appreciated. thanks

How do I migrate from one user to another to resolve sleep/permissions issues?

My MacBook Pro's been having several issues, mainly with waking from sleep. I've tried Repairing Permissions, Repair Disk, running tools like OnyX and Drive Genius, but they can't find any issues. I checked the Console log, and there was some sort of denial from displaying the login window after I woke up from sleep.
Initially I thought this had to do with some of my peripherals being plugged in when I already had the lid closed; the Mac would wake up, not realize the lid was closed, and never go back to sleep. Nothing--keyboard or trackpad touches--would wake the machine up. I'd have to hard reset by holding the Power button on.
I had an Apple Genius suggest that I create a new user and test it out with the (same) default sleep settings as the buggy user account. It wakes up from sleep lightning fast, and has thus far never had any issues.
I'm leaning toward sticking with this new user and migrating over my things bit by bit, to try and avoid potential permissions issues. But since I don't know where the source of this sleep problem lies, how should I go about it?
I've read through Pondini's Transfer Guide here http://pondini.org/OSX/Transfer.html, but I'm just wondering where people would start, knowing that the machine has had permissions issues with some files. (The permissions issues, btw, I believe were caused by a mangled Time Machine restore. I replaced my internal HD with another one, but the Time Machine/Migration Assistant restore wasn't complete. I did it a second time from within the user account that got created, then tried to delete the malformed one and rename the complete one, but that's when the issues started.)

I wasn't intending to move the entire home folder, rather, moving things like what's inside my Documents folder in chunks.
From what I read, tracking down the origin of sleep/wake problems on a computer is notoriously hard, especially if Disk Utility and similar tools don't give any clues during Repair Disk or Repair Permissions. Creating the new user seemed to help, but I don't know why that alone would "fix" anything, so I haven't moved any files as of yet nor done anything with the new user account.
Trying to move the things from my Library folder to my desktop also seems a bit risky; it's hidden in Lion and Mountain Lion because a lot of system files are there, right? Wouldn't moving them cause problems, not just help me find what file/folder (if any) could be the culprit?

In FINDER, drag and drop the files into the Public Folder. All Users can then access those files.

Can I use home sharing to import library changes from one library to another, on the same computer without duplicating the song/movie?

I have two imacs, each with multiple accounts. The itunes source data (music videos etc) is stored in the shared area of one imac. What is the best way of keeping each account on each imac up to date with any changes/additions in the source data? I felt that Home sharing could be a solution, and it works well by import the library onto the second mac and I can also see if there are any changes by using the "Show items not in my lbrary" function. However, this only works well for one account on the second mac, for the other accounts it will re-import and duplicate the data .

Locate them in the Windows Explorer, move or copy those files as you would any other, and drag them into the open iTunes window when the second library is loaded. If you're using two iTunes libraries on one user account, you only need to locate the files; otherwise, they need to be put in a shared area.
