How can i modify or delete desktop files and folders in Mac OS 10.6.8 ?

i have Macbook pro running on Mac OS X, Snow Leopard ver. 10.6.8 . I am not able to delete rename and modify my desktop folder and files. even through the admin account and all previleges i cant move them to Thrash. as i try to delete them it asks for password and then no action takes place. i have even used repair permissions from disk utility, used the terminal window method but nothing happened. the "get info " shows read and write permision but still i cannot even rename them there.. can anyone please help me ?

Is the Desktop folder inside the Users -> Yourname folder with the same contents of your Desktop? If it isn't, then you've moved the Desktop folder to a place that can't be accessed by the account called Yourname.

To make a 24-bit AVI file in Photoshop, go to File>Export>Render Video. Then, under File Options, choose AVI from the Quicktime Export drop-down menu. Click the Settings button. Click the Settings button in the AVI Settings window. Change Compression to None, and then choose "Millions of Colors" from the Depth drop-down under Compression.
The Millions of Colors option is for 24-bit video (8-bit R+G+B channels, 8x3=24). Millions of Colors+ is for 32-bit video (24-bit video plus an 8-bit alpha channel).

Type should always flow F->T
if current abs(amount)> next abs(amount) then groupid = 'PD'
if current abs(amount)< next abs(amount) then groupid = 'PI'
there is no case when those amounts will be equals
where current(custid) = next(custid) and current(service) = next(service) and groupid is null

How can I copy my iPhoto library file to my other macs?

I have 4 Mac's and I've kept all my photos on one of them primarily. How can I find the iPhoto library file and copy it to the other Macs?

There are two apps that can do that for your.
1 - the better of the two is iPhoto Library Manager. You will have to manually select those Events in Library A that are not in Library B and copy them to B. Then do the same for B to A. This also copies both the original and edited versions, keywords, titles, descriptions, faces and places.
2 - the second app is SyncPhotos. This one is automatic and will copy the original images in A that are not in B into B and the same for B to A. This does not copy edited versions or any of the metadata, i.e. keywords, etc.

I am having the same issue....Same address for years - same as USPS - I tried 5 times (3 macs and 2 iPhones) and now i have 5 CHARGES for 1.00 each on my credit card. You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.
You need to get a new computer or a refurbished one.

Yes I did mean the Caches sorry I wasn't paying attention to what I was typing and made a pretty major typo. Yes i was trying to dingoes a problem with my videos that I embed in iWeb showing fine in iWeb but now been able to load in Safari. I thought I had this problem fixed but it turned out that I didn't have.
I thought that if i deleted the Caches then the computer would just rebuild them and that might solve the problem, its pretty much a last resort though as I have already looked at the settings and everything and been on the phone to apple tech support and all the settings are correct they are just not showing. The theory was that maybe a half loaded video had some how managed to prevent a the videos from displaying properly and so I thought that rebuilding the caches would solve this problem.

Saved Digital ID to desktop, all desktop files and folders immediately vanished from computer

I was signing a document in Abobe Reader, and instructed to create a new digital ID in order to do so.
when I did this, I chose to save the digital ID to the desktop, replacing whatever its original destination to be saved to was.
when I hit finish, every single file and folder on my desktop vanished from my laptop (Macbook air running OSX Yosemite) completely. I have searched everyone and gone through a live chat with an Apple specialist who has had access to my screen and cannot find anything. All files and folders, music and photos that were not on my desktop are still here. I have tried re-starting.
Does anyone have any idea what has happened and how to fix it? I am a graduate student and part of my dissertation was on my desktop. I am an idiot for not having backed it up properly, and will be buying an external hard drive and using Time Machine immediately.

I deleted the file, saved the book, updated the book, updated the TOC references, and confirmed that the file has been deleted -- but it's still there in the TOC. How can I get it out of there? And at what point in the proceedings should it be gone from the TOC?

How? You need to delete-from-book using the Book menu. A right-click option on the component file name.

I'm using dmenu as an alternative for gnome-do, and I'm running it with 'dmenu_run'.
But not all programs are in the PATH, so I would like dmenu to read my .desktop files
too, like the menus in Xfce, GNOME etc.

as long as $PATH is set, you shouldn't need to reconnect them (i think). if you send the list of apps through | awk -F '/' '{print $NF}' | that'll strip the path

How can I get back a pages file and its backup if I did not save them to my documents?

Hallo community!
My mac got stock on a website because of a java update so I was forced to shut down the computer using the on-botton. Upon restarting my work on Pages I clicked on the file I was working on so as to open both the file and pages but the file wouldnt open. I checked if I had also saved the file on my documents to try to restart it from there. But this file comes originally from a USB which I dont have at this moment although I could kee on working on this file without the usb. The file is not my documents yet it shows on the last files-list of pages.
I cant open this file anymore, maybe because I did not save it to my files. Although this is strange because I even named another file I worked on along this first document. Enfin, the first file even has a backup according to the list but the backup wont open either. I don't know how to get this file back I am in big trouble If I dont get to open it soon! I hope somebody can help me. Anyone knows a trick or something!?

What version of Pages?
It sounds like it may be damaged.
You do not have to save to Documents.

Based on your descriptions, I know that when you run the above code, it does not delete all the files, then have you checked that which kinds of files or in which folder the files can not been deleted?
Besides, if you want to let the app go back to the state it was when the user installed it for the first time, then an easy way is to uninstall and reinstall it.
