How can I monitor activity on a IX2?

I have 3 remote offices that use FTP to backup to our IX2 at the main office. When I come to work the lights on the IX2 are flashing very rapidly indicating activity. My first thought was that the backup jobs are still running. However, I logged into each of the 3 computers remotely and they all show that the jobs completed several hours ago. So then I became paranoid and wondered if someone has hacked into it or is accessing it on the local network without permission. Just to be sure I disabled FTP port fowarding on our router. That didn't make a difference so I unplugged the ethernet cable and it still continues flashing . I would think that if someone were accessing it or hacking into it that unplugging the network cable would make the lights stop or go idle. However they keep right on going.
Today I decided to upgrade the firmware to 4.1.102.29716 and it still does the same thing. I looked around the new web interface after the firmware upgrade and I can't seem to find any logs or tools to show me what is going on. The #1 issue I would like to know is how can I tell if someone is currently accessing the device either through FTP, Windows File Sharing, or the Web interface?
Another thing that may or may not have anything to do with this is when I log in to the web portal and click on System Status it says "Processing..." and the little busy animation goes around and around. I clicked on it over an hour ago (I just went to lunch). I walked in and it still says "Processing..." as I was typing this it finally changed to a bar graph chart showing storage usage. Why did that take so long? It's as though something is using all the CPU. I will say the CPU temp is at 75C which seems a high for a computer but maybe not for a NAS device. Any ideas? It seems to me that even if I unplug the ethernet cable that the lights on this thing never ever stop going and I can hear the hard drives running all the time.

Which ix2 is this? You may want to see if this is still under warranty and contact tech phone support. It may be had to diagnose these types of issues on here. They can get a dump file and see if there are issues with the device, drives, activity etc.

I noticed that on Tuesday my disk usage was a little less than 50% today I have only 2% free space left! When I try to click on status to see what is taking up all the space my session will time out before it can display it. I have no way to know other than browsing through the network using Windows and right click > properties to see how big each share is. Something is defintely not right here. To be honest this device has never worked perfect. I've managed to get by until now. I think it may be time to pull the trigger and call support. I'm just dreading the call.
I just read another person's thread that suggested it may be a hard drive problem rather than a CPU one. Not that the hard drives are bad but that it has something to do with the cluster/sector size of the drives. I have a pair of 2TB drives configured in RAID 1. Here is a link to the other thread:

  • How can I get Activity Monitor to work?

I've searched the discussions to no avail, so I have this question: how can I get Activity Monitor to work? It launches and its window opens but then the spinning beachball appears. I've checked the Console and it shows that the Activity Monitor is attempting to fully launch but then it "exits" and then it tries to fully start up again, goes into an infinite loop or something. Issued a "force quit" succesfully. I've deleted the Activity Monitor's .plist, no joy. What to do? Thanks!
    I'm running 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro (late 2011)

I wish I could be more positive but I have no experience of MacBook Pros and whether their demands on the system differ from my simple iMac.   If you have the time to scour through 'More like this' ( to the right of your initial post) and the links within it, you may find leads.
I also found this thread via Google which in parts seems to echo your troubles.  I hope it helps; thank you for the star.

  • How can we achive active/active cluster setup with Oracle

    Hi Experts,
How can we achieve active/active database setup with oracle WITHOUT USING RAC.. As far as I know it's impossible (unless I'm wrong)..
We are using Oracle 11.2.0.1 64bit on Windows 2008 server. We deployed Oracle FailSafe but that's more of an active/passive solution based on a windows cluster.
The other solution we were thinking about is to use DataGuard and replication.. two servers.. the oracle instance running on one server generating logs, and the other server receive the logs and apply them to the physical standby db.. Still, this is not a real active/active setup.
So, is it possible to run 2 servers in an active/active cluster and have the oracle database in an active/active setup or have the instance running on multiple nodes (at the same time)?
    Thanks

Let me give you a brief explanation of what the situation is and you can be the judge..
My client have four databases with the smallest one being 20GB and the biggest around the 35gb (SGA 750mb to 1.4gb (Tiny by DB standards) and probably on a normal day, you can run all four of them on a decent desktop).. The DBs are used to keep track of people information. Through out the year, the databases are almost sitting idle, and by idle I mean, the odd update here and there, the odd report..etc. No hard real processing of any sort. Two days of the year (end of year) we have all the operators consolidating records and what's not and they will be pounding away entering data and updating the tables - with hourly reports that goes to 3rd parties. The client expects a 99.99 up time and availability during those 2 days.
Now, tell me, How can I justify using RAC and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in licensing and what ever extra costs introduced by the complexity of the environment for the above scenario knowing that I don't have any real use for RAC for 363 days of the year; and we MIGHT need it for 2 days of the year? This is the dilemma we're facing.
    Thanks

    Hi Udi,
The report RSALERTPROC does not need to run to deliver RWB alerts. These alerts are pushed directly to the receiver. Only if you want escalation processes or if you want to forward CCMS alerts to the Alert Mgmt. you need to schedule RSALERTPROC.
From SP 14 on PMI-free alerting was introduced. That means before SP 14 one has to configure and activate the End-to-End Monitoring, and to schedule the report SXMSALERT_PROCESS_DATA_GET in order to extract the alerts from the PMI data. For SP 14 and higher, that's not longer necessary.
If no alerts are being delivered, please check if "Suppress multiple alerts of this rule" is checked for your rule.
For SP 14 and higher you could also have a look at the report sxmsalert_logreader. This report shows some information about alerts being created or not.
You'll find more information about trouble shooting the alerting in SAP Note 913858.

    Dear Gurus,
I known the Oracle 9i have this new feature "Identifying Unused Indexes" via ALTER INDEX MONITORING USAGE, but how can I monitoring the index usage in the Oracle 8i?
    Regars

You can't in 8i. However you can look at the SQL Text in the SGA looking for anything that matches the table name that the index is for and then look at the explain plan for the selects and updates. Pain in the xxx to do but it should give you the information.

  • Please Help.  How can you monitor a directory using jndi connection to a ldap server?

How can you monitor a directory using jndi connection to a ldap server? I
want the ldap server to monitor the content change in a file system
directory on another computer on the network. Can someone please help.
    Thanks
    Fred

    Hi,
Why do you want to use LDAP for Hard disk monitoring..???
U can do this by creating a MD5 checksum for all the files existing in some
    perticular
directory and every hour or any configurable period u can recalculate the
    checksum
to find out the change in the content.
I guess all u need is to get the code for "updatedb" utility of Linux and
    instrument it for ur needs..
    Hope it helps...

  • DataSource Overloaded, How can I monitor states?

Hi There, your answer is very relevant, I am facing same problems! But actually I don´t want know the root cause, I need another information,of course, if you can ! How can I manage datasources states ? I mean, I must use JMX or another kind of monitoring system, to prevent datasources overloads ! Do you have any Idea, what I am trying to say is : Using JMX, SNMP, Nagios, is that possible for me prevent or try avoid through monitoring systems, datasource fails ?
Basically I need check health states from these datasources, can you help me ?
    Thanks in advance !

You can use the admin console. When you click on the data source in question you see a monitoring tab.
Here you can click customize this table and add various (or all) monitoring parameters. When your data source
gets overloaded, an attribute to monitor is active connections current count and compare this to the number of connection you
have configured for the pool. When this attribute remains constant it can indicate that you are dealing with leaked connections.
The advanced section of the connection pool, configuration contains a attribute called Inactive Connection Timeout which
reclaims leaked connections. "You can use the Inactive Connection Timeout feature to reclaim leaked connections - connections that
were not explicitly closed by the application. Note that this feature is not intended to be used in place of properly closing connections."
You can also watch the data source in a graph (http://hostname:7001/console/dashboard). Here you can build your own graphs with
the diagnostics you want to monitor. An example can be found here: http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=7716 (the testing section).
