How can I mount a large sparsebundle (450GB) remotely without it hanging?
I have remote access to my Time Capsule set up and am able to see my files. Files on the drive I have no issue accessing, albeit slowly. Unfortunately, however, the files I need to access are stored in a large backup file.
What I'm hoping is that there is a way to unpackage the sparsebundle locally to the Time Capsule or to extract a subset of files, as attempts to mount the sparsebundle remotely hang and eventually lockup Finder.
Any suggestions?

Sorry but no.. Apple says specifically not to do this. The Time Machine backup should not be accessed remotely and it is unsuitable to use or recover from..
There is no way to extract the files.. The simple fact is Time Machine is on the computer.. it is not on the Time Capsule.. the file on the Time Capsule is merely the backup. There are zero smarts.
If you want to access files you should setup BTMM to the Mac not the TC. Or use remote desktop or a service like TeamViewer.

I suggest you take a little time to watch some tutorials. If you are that new to Lightroom that you don't understand what export means then it would probably be a good idea for you to get some other information as well. If you don't I think you'll find Lightroom can be very confusing. You haven't indicated what version of Lightroom you are using. The link I'm providing you is a series of getting started videos for Lightroom 5. And just about everything in this series will apply to other versions. You will note that there is one video devoted exclusively to exporting images. But I think you really need to watch the whole series.

That's a bit excessive. The website http://convert.neevia.com/pdfcompress/ can compress files up to 5 MB in size. You may want to print to PDF single smaller pages, or print the document and scan it one page at a time to PDF, and then use the PDF compress tools to shrink it further.

Could anybody tell me, how can i mount slices in created dd-image? Is it possible?

1. In case on this device was created just one slice on whole disk:
lofiadm -a <path_to_mage>
mount /dev/lofi/1 /mnt
2. In case was created more than 1 slices. You can use dd for copy every separeted slice to separete file
and create many lofi-devices.
dd if=<image> of=<slice_image> skip=<start cyl for this slice> count=<cyl_num> bs=<cyl_size>
In case you don't know original partition table for this disk, you can read
/usr/include/sys/vtoc.h
and try get reguired information with od

how can i view and apply new custom patterns without going to preset manager? i had this facility but have now lost it. i design patterns but am fairly new to photoshop. i used to be able to click on the drop down menu in patterns in the 'fill' box but cannot now do this. have i inadvertently clicked on something to turn this facility off? i now have to go to 'preset manager' and manually move my new design to the first box and click 'done' so that i can use it.
Which version of photoshop are you using?
After you define a custom pattern it should be added to the bottom of whatever patterns are already loaded.
For example, if you define a custom pattern and then go to Edit>Fill>Pattern, the newly defined pattern should have been added to the existing loaded patterns. -
I have an Apple MacBook Pro with 2 USB ports and a MiniDisplay Port. I also have an HDTV with a HDMI port. How can I use the TV as a display without any tethering wires between my computer and the TV? I have a MiniDisplay Port to VGA adapter, but there are two issues with it: The new display doesn't have a VGA port, and even if it did, I wouldn't want to have my mac constantly attached to the display by a cable. You cannot use the Japanese iTunes Store unless are physically present there and have a Japanese payment method. This applies even for free apps; you cannot get them from the Japanese iTunes Store if you are in the US.
If you are in Japan, you can set up a new iTunes Store account just to get free apps. See:

Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
